Radio City Apartments

New York, USA

The hotel

You’ve seen them do it in the movies, but now you can experience New York living for yourself – walking below the bulb-lit canopy to enter your apartment block, a friendly nod from the front desk, before you hop into the elevator and ride up to your pied-a-terre. But this is New York living on a different scale – as Radio City Apartments is right in Midtown Manhattan, just moments from its namesake, Radio City Music Hall. It comes with all those home comforts you’d expect if you lived here, like complimentary WiFi and a kitchenette with a microwave, hob, fridge, and coffee maker – and those come as standard whether you’re picking a two bedroom pad or a studio. And the location’s the same for every apartment too – just steps from sights like Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and Fifth Avenue.

Good location between Times Square and Radio City. Most useful if you prepare your own meals (and aren't hosting anyone for dinner). Air conditioning is a window unit; it can be noisy during rain, when drips hit the unit. Space for luggage is limited. But room is comfortable and clean.

I booked this place blind in one of those mystery hotel deals. I was actually kind of nervous by how cheap it was but I was very happy. Rooms are normal Manhattan size (ie small). Maybe seem even smaller but I think it is because there is all the kitchen stuff taking up space as well. If you are just looking for a room to sleep in, it’s great. Good: Location: terrific. Tucked away a little bit from the insane number of people in Times Square, but still close enough that you could walk there in just a couple minutes. There are lots of subways stops in the area as well so no matter where you are going you can probably get to the right spot in 5-10 minute walk max. Price: Obviously this is going fluctuate, but they seem a lot cheaper than most in the area. Kitchen: small but has everything you could need Staff: friendly and helpful Bad: Noise: Not as bad as some reviewers make it out to be but there is construction inside and out. Earplugs help, especially if you’re a light sleeper. Cleanliness: it wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either. The room would benefit from a really good deep clean but was overall acceptable. After receiving several recommendations for Radio City Apartments from friends and co-workers & reading several positive reviews, we decided to book our stay here and I honestly don't know if we could have picked a better spot. The hotel is located right in midtown-Manhattan with tons of great dining & shopping nearby. Times Square & Rockefeller Center are both within a 5-10 minute walk, all the Broadway theaters are within a 10-15 minute walk and Central Park is about a 40-45 minute walk away. There are multiple Subway Stations within a short radius of the hotel, meaning easy access to get wherever you need to go; we were able to use the Subway to get to Yankee Stadium, the World Trade Center/9-11 Museum & Memorial and Battery Park where we took the Staten Island Ferry. As for the hotel itself, it was great. We had a Queen room which featured a queen bed (obviously), a small kitchenette (fridge, microwave and small gas stove) and a private bath. To be fair, the room was small but that's what we were expecting; the room was more like what you'd find in Europe than what you'd find in one of the big chain hotels and some people might be put off by that. Having kitchen facilities in the room was nice as we were able to grab some groceries (there's a spot called "Food Emporium" just down the street, about a 10 minute walk away) so we were able to have breakfasts and snacks in the room. The only real negative that I came across was the noise from the street below but that was really only an issue for the first night. Car horns honking, the occasional sirens wailing and loud music from speakers attached to the pizza restaurant all echoed up between the buildings but truthfully, by the second night we were there, I didn't even notice it anymore. The staff were super-friendly, the room was clean and comfortable and we heard zero noise from any of the neighbors. We will gladly recommend Radio City Apartments to anyone planning an NYC trip.
