Shelburne Hotel & Suites by Affinia

New York, USA

The hotel

If you crave the Manhattan nights you’ve seen in the sit-coms, Shelburne NYC’s got it covered. Just head straight upstairs to Rare View: the archetypal summertime rooftop bar, its 5,000 square feet hold a chilled cocktail party vibe, five unique ‘rooms’ including the picnic patch and champagne garden, and 360 degree views taking in sights like the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building. Back downstairs, Rare Bar & Grill serves up gourmet burgers with twists like tequila-soaked beef, aged whisky slaw, or lobster tail. If you can bear to leave this infinitely trendy hotel, you’ll find you’re in a similarly trendy neighbourhood. But still be sure to keep in mind the complimentary evening wine hour.

160 dollars added to the room cost for various taxes and fees over a few days. Beware. Also they advertise that some of this goes to a ten dollar credit at their mini shop. A bottle of water costs ten dollars there. So what looks like a good deal on the surface loses all its competitiveness in practice. Also, the rooms have creepy pictures over… Read more

Never again. This is not a place for a business travelers. The suites may be suited for families who want to fit a lot of people in one space but not for a business visitor. Service was hard to come by. One morning we waited over one hour for room service. Room service prices exorbitant and food was delivered cold. We were only fifteen minutes late for checkout - we had a three-year-old with us -- and were locked out of our room. The door staff and bellboys were very nice but front desk staff very unfriendly and uncourteous. We will not return. Read less

We had another great stay at the Affinia Shelburne. This is our regular hotel when we visit our family who live in Murray Hill. Our room was clean, quiet, and very well priced. Great location which is out of the craziness but walking distance to many sites. We chose a smaller room this trip to save some money this time, but I know the suites are huge by NYC standards and would comfortably fit a family of 4. Great views from the rooftop deck as well. Staff is always friendly and pleasant. We will be back! Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Good location, great roof terrace, average hotel

Nice enough hotel, but the roof terrace was really the one and only outstanding feature. Dark reception area, and their snack bar was frightfully expensive. Beds were good, and the staff (mostly) accomodationg and friendly (but not more than one would expect). Too expensive for what you got, was my thought.
