The Standard Highline

New York, USA

The hotel

There’s nothing standard about The Standard, High Line. Located on the High Line (a disused rail track that’s become a ‘go to’ sight for travellers and a ‘go to’ park for New Yorkers), The Standard has a cool Meatpacking District address. Its sepia and white rooms have a slight 70s vibe with floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning views over Manhattan or the Hudson River (or both). Sociable from top to toe, the penthouse floor belongs to Le Bain, a rooftop club that stays open until 4am most nights, while the street level brings you the pretzels, sausages, and beers of The Standard Biergarten, and the seaside-inspired menu of The Standard SeaShack.

I have lived in the city for over 12 years and then moved out West, and it was a perfect welcome back to the city! The entire staff could not be any more lovely or accommodating. I have one daughter with a severe nut allergy and they made sure it was totally safe! This is my second or 3rd time coming back and the service never changes-it is consistent and perfect! The location is great, it is super easy to get to from the West Side Highway with a car, it is convenient to catch the subway & getting in and out of the hotel is not troublesome. A++. We will be back!! Read less

The Standard High Line is on 848 Washington Street NYC, in the trendy Meatpacking District. As one jogs from afar on the High Line towards The Standard, in the right sunlight you are treated to an image of the building that resembles a standing, almost fully opened, glass hinge , somewhat of an architectural phenomenon. The soul of The Standard is hinged to the sheets of glass stacked 18 stories high which drape the exterior and afford guests with spectacular views of the Hudson River and associated cityscape from almost every point in the hotel. This hotel kisses the earth in a unique way as it is propped up on concrete stilts creating a bridge over the High Line...another engineering wonder associated with the building. Popular with the in-crowd and the out-crowd for that matter, The Standard encompasses a bevy of busting dining-and-drinking venues very appealing to locals and tourists alike. Because it skirts the High Line, many Park events and participants use The Standard as a check point (Think: good for business). The most dramatic, physical, interior, asset is the floor-to-ceiling windows everywhere (just the backside of the outside) which permit killer views of the real thing, NYC (no virtual reality here). When you hunker down in your room you will be welcomed by wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling windows which illuminate the room dramatically with natural light and let you cash in on those spectacular vistas again. Rooms are compact (not unusual for NYC) with a white and beige colour palette, much like you would find in a cruise ship cabin. An exciting feature of selected rooms is the exposed peek-a-boo tub: peek is near the window for a revealing view while boo: is asking for a shower curtain for privacy. Remember, don't streak naked around your room, someone may be watching. And when it comes time to hit-the-hay you can gaze out of your window wall and count NYC skyscrapers until you fall asleep ( give the sheep a night off). Although the Meatpacking District is known for its hip nightlife and fine dining eateries, The Standard has these facilities right on its front porch. The Standard Grill, a classic-bistro type setting, ushers out American cuisine, is busy X 2. The innovative menu is meat heavy with entree's such as dry-aged ribs, pork chops, the old standby: burgers, steaks amongst others. It has a unique tile floor constructed of pennies, almost 1/2 M of them (this is surely a big wishing well). Another eating option is the Grill Cafe with an extensive menu and sidewalk seating which is a favourite with the summertime guests. On the 18th floor is a bar called: Le Bain, with a plunge pool and roof terrace, again with more views. Then there is the Top of the Standard Lounge. Pretty eccentric, for the rich and famous although sometimes regular folks get in: who knows maybe you can rub shoulders with NYC a-listers and celebs. If you just want to hang out, then the lobby Living Room will do just fine with its groovy lay back area, tasty nibbles and handcrafted drinks. For beer lovers, The German-inspired Biergarten is stocked with taps of European beer (some domestic also) served up in huge mugs with giant pretzels all more suitable for consumption by the The Hulk. If you are sober enough, you can play ping pong. Guests can get pumped up in the spacious 24 hour state-of-the-art gym. while their eyes feast on more panoramic vistas. The Standard has a beefed up concierge team, dubbed "travel consultants".This is not butler service , but it is getting close. So in NYC, if you fancy a view from any point, relish lavish and modern digs, and appreciate the advantage of fine dining tucked inside the hotel.....try The Standard High Line.................A Hotel With A View. I stayed at The Standard, Highline for a one night bday staycation with my partner. I wanted a simple yet lux "getaway" for one night after a week of birthday celebrations. This was worth every last drop and the perfect way to refresh from all my birthday festivities ! We had a beautiful corner room with two expansive windows that overlooked the city with panoramic views. The bathroom was a dream!!! Naturally lit from an oversized window equipped with both a shower and tub! Kay, the manager of Guest Experience was so helpful in ensuring that my room was fitted with a tub as a warm bubble bath was a definite necessity. She was also so kind in acknowledging that it was birthday, I arrived to a room with amenities and birthday decorations! Such great service by both her and the front desk staff--everyone I encountered was friendly and hospitable. The room service was also quite fast -food arrived in a timely manner. I will definitely be back whenever I need to escape my tiny LES apartment for the best glam hotel treatment in the city!! Read less

My family and I just spent five days at the Standard Highline and couldn't recommend it enough. The concierge team, especially Lily, were very helpful both before and during our visit, helping with the restaurant bookings we already had an also making great local recommendations for others. She managed to get us a last minute table for 6 on a Saturday night which was impressive! The rooms have absolutely stunning views and very comfortable beds. We visited the Standard Grill for breakfast and dinner, the No Pool bar, and the rooftop bar, the food, service and staff in all three were excellent. The hotel is in the best area of New York, full of bars, restaurants and easily accessible to get everywhere else by subway, uber or by walking along the beautiful Highline. Thanks so much Lily and team - we can't wait to come back! Read less

Unfortunately they didnt present themselves on booking.com as a 21+ hotel. As we were travelling with children Ages 14-20 , they were not allowed in their rooftop bar, nor in their pool, nor in the bars on the below levels. Definitely a NO GO with children!
