The Surrey

Upper East Side, New York

The hotel

The Surrey is the first and only hotel in New York City to be added to the Relais & Chateaux family of luxury properties in the past 20 years. As you’d expect from an establishment that includes JFK and Bette Davis as previous patrons, dining facilities are exceptional and from the Michelin-starred French fusion restaurant, Café Boulud serving delicious light brunches, prepare for nothing less than the best. Ideally located amongst the brownstone terraces and artistic haunts of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, taking in the sights is always at a premium and thanks to a private roof garden which combines café culture with signature cocktails, views of Central Park have never looked so splendid. If you prefer to relax at a slightly more active pace then the fitness centre is definitely for you with the massage service and spa facilities providing the perfect way to wind down after an exciting day in the city. As you’ll be staying just a stone’s throw from the likes of the Guggenheim, the Frick Collection and the MET, art is always an essential ingredient and thanks to the Surrey’s own private collection, you’re bound to discover some phenomenal contemporary works.

Mattresses were top notch. The drinks at the rooftop bar were way overpriced but willing to spend one night up there for the experience. Very clean. Staff most friendly. Providing guests with Fiji water daily was appreciated. The free coffee in the lobby was usually empty every time I wanted some.

Great location on UES. Lovely hotel. Great Daniel Boulud restaurant, which is also the same menu for room service. Outstanding. Three Guys diner around the corner for casual dining. The Carlyle across the street for a memorable cocktail at Bemelmans Bar.

The Surrey Hotel is one of the finest hotels in NYC. The decor is trendy and classic at the same time and has an uptown vibe for the UES. Highly recommend the hotel bar, especially for jazz on Friday nights! Fatima upgraded us to the Presidential Suite for our wedding night. The room is absolutely incredible! Thank you for the incredible stay!

Nice hotel but frantic, over-worked staff and a pervasive sense of frustration among the guests pollutes the experience. Checking in takes forever even with no line. Stayed on 10th floor. Smelled like mould as did room. I spoke to front desk. Never heard anything back and was only there for one night so didn’t make a big deal about it. Got a late checkout. When my wife asked for the bill, the rude employee at front desk told us we would be charged an extra night. I was able to rectify but upsetting that… Read more

When my wife asked for the bill, the rude employee at front desk told us we would be charged an extra night. I was able to rectify but upsetting that they behave this way. I have stayed at this hotel many, many times. Something has changed, and not for the better. I will not be returning. Read less
