The Surrey

New York, USA

The hotel

The Surrey is the first and only hotel in New York City to be added to the Relais & Chateaux family of luxury properties in the past 20 years. As you’d expect from an establishment that includes JFK and Bette Davis as previous patrons, dining facilities are exceptional and from the Michelin-starred French fusion restaurant, Café Boulud serving delicious light brunches, prepare for nothing less than the best. Ideally located amongst the brownstone terraces and artistic haunts of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, taking in the sights is always at a premium and thanks to a private roof garden which combines café culture with signature cocktails, views of Central Park have never looked so splendid. If you prefer to relax at a slightly more active pace then the fitness centre is definitely for you with the massage service and spa facilities providing the perfect way to wind down after an exciting day in the city. As you’ll be staying just a stone’s throw from the likes of the Guggenheim, the Frick Collection and the MET, art is always an essential ingredient and thanks to the Surrey’s own private collection, you’re bound to discover some phenomenal contemporary works.

Whenever my wife and I are in Manhattan, we stay at the Surrey. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the service is excellent. We love the location as their is an excellent restaurant, Cafe Boulud immediately next door.

Bar Pleiades provided good entertainment and Café Boulud served great food. It was a pleasant surprise to receive a 6" chocolate mousse with raspberry filling and a bottle of prosecco delivered to the room to celebrate my birthday. The rooftop garden is worth checking out. Warm and friendly staff overall. Great location between Fifth and Madison avenues. Close to museums, fancy stores and good restaurants. Some days the front desk is very efficient; other days very poor, depending on the shifts. Continuous issue with the hotel's system during our stay.......

Yes you read that correctly, the Surrey has a 3 bedroom! Very hard to find in NYC, especially at a 5 star hotel. For a large party or family, this is just terrific. Yes you read that correctly, the Surrey has a 3 bedroom! Very hard to find in NYC, especially at a 5 star hotel. For a large party or family, this is just terrific. The main suite has a couch, galley kitchen, dining table for 4 and large tv. Then the other two rooms can be joined through a common hallway that has a lockable door at the start of it. This allows you to lock the hallway door and leave all the room doors open so you are connected. One of these connecting rooms has two queens in it, the other two rooms have king beds. They are all spacious and luxurious. The cost for all 3 rooms together was very reasonable and much less than any other place I looked at near the park. There are other wonderful things to note about the hotel. It is only a block from Central Park. This is key because when you stay right on the park, it is so loud, but this hotel is very quiet! I have never slept so well in the city. The beds and linens are also wonderful. The room service is so good. We loved our breakfasts each morning. We also ate at Cafe Boulud for dinner. It was divine, but we sure were shocked at the cost. It is very pricey. The staff at the hotel is just lovely. They went out of their way throughout our stay to help us and make us feel welcome. Concierge staff very helpful. Hope to be lucky enough to stay there again! Read less

This may not seem like a big thing but when people are traveling long periods of time and also sweating in the sweltering heat it was a great gesture to me. the hotel is absolutely… Read more

This may not seem like a big thing but when people are traveling long periods of time and also sweating in the sweltering heat it was a great gesture to me. the hotel is absolutely immaculate and clean the rooms smell amazing. The bed is definelty the the most comfortable I have ever slept in. I know this because my sciatica is always better the next morning. It’s also a better value then the mark being cheaper @ the same 5 star rating and in within a block from the mark if you want to stop by. The surrey is same if not better in my opinion. Happy hoteling. Just had to say my piece. Happy hoteling Read less
