Sometimes I think the "W" in the name of this hotel chain stands for "weird," but this W hotel delivered everything a business traveler needed. Nice property but I had the feeling the property was reaching to be hip and modern. Plenty of activity aroudn the lobby and bar. Rooms feel a little dated for a modern hotel, or perhaps just not the right mix in my specific room. A little pricey for what was delivered. Still a very good property with lots of activity in the lobby.

Stayed at the W Union Square for 5 nights at end of June. Positives: • Friendly professionals at the front desk • Lobby area is welcoming and visually appealing • My 18th floor room offered a nice view (avoid 19th floor -view obstructed by a wall) Negatives: • Certain W Hotels, including this one, have begun adding a compulsory $25… Read more
Stayed at the W Union Square for 5 nights at end of June. Positives: • Friendly professionals at the front desk • Lobby area is welcoming and visually appealing • My 18th floor room offered a nice view (avoid 19th floor -view obstructed by a wall) Negatives: • Certain W Hotels, including this one, have begun adding a compulsory $25 destination fee. Since it's a mandatory charge, it should simply be added to the room rate to make total room rate more transparent. • Rooms are somewhat dated and would benefit from a makeover. • After settling my bill, an additional charge of roughly $45 appeared on my card a few hours after departing. After 2 phone calls, the hotel manager acknowledged the error and credited back the mistaken charge. • Regrettably I had forgotten my electric toothbrush in the bathroom. For $35, the hotel would ship it to my US address via ground transportation. Instead, I decided to have Amazon deliver me a new one the next day for about the same price. I realize that returning property is typically not a complimentary service of non-luxury hotels. However, my thought was that upon having been a 15+ years frequent hotel guest of Starwood (now part of Marriott), the hotel would have simply mailed me the small item as a result of being a longtime loyal customer. First time at this W and don't want to say that I expected more, but I wasn't wowed by this hotel. The room/size was ok but it seemed incredibly dated. The two most important things to me as a traveller are the comfort of the bed and pillows. The bed wasn't bad, but the pillows were awful. Both feather and foam. Very disappointing. Not sure… Read more

This hotel is a few blocks from our office and listed as a corporate preferred hotel, but this is definitely not a hotel for business travelers. I was awakened 3 times early Monday morning between 3 am - 5 am by loud talking and laughing in the hallway and door slamming. I went out to investigate and found a hotel employee chatting it up with some ladies, all of whom acted indignant when I pointed out that it was 3 am and asked them to take their conversation inside their rooms. This combined with the leisurely service in the restaurant and the fact that I have to go talk to someone to check out suggests that this is not a place for business travelers who want to sleep and have their business handled in a hurry.
