Driftwood Shores Resort and Conference Center

Oregon, USA

The hotel

Every room at Driftwood Shores faces the ocean, and that’s what really places it on the map. In fact it’s the only oceanfront hotel for miles. They’ve maximised on this fact with a balcony or deck in every guestroom (along with complimentary WiFi and a kitchen or kitchenette), and a restaurant and lounge flooded with views over the wild sandy shoreline and dramatic Pacific surf. And you have 10 miles of beach-swept coastline starting just steps from the hotel, with the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area promising more sand-themed fun nearby. For a break from the beach, Driftwood Shores offers its ‘aquatic center’, with its heated indoor pool accessorised with a 15-seater hot tub, a children’s pool, and a mini-splash area for little ones, complete with water spray tunnel.

The location of this property is amazing and that's the best thing about it. The room was a bit tired and there is a crazy two-hour check-in window listed (4-6pm) although the reception staff were still there when we returned from dinner after 8pm. I had a choice of first or second floor and mistakenly took the first floor so we could walk out onto the grass and through a short area of small dunes and onto the beach. It would have been much better on the 2-4 floors for the view and an added bonus of a small balcony. The bathroom was small. There was a lot of noise from outside. I think from kids coming back from the pool or people getting on/off the elevator. You could hear everything going on outside. I would definitely ask for a room away from the elevator. It wasn’t horrible and was quiet during the night and in the morning. The checkin people were pleasant. The room was clean; a little dated but that didn’t bother us. A great value for an ocean front room. Read less

We had the King room with a kitchen. The kitchen was clean with about everything you'd need. Only complaint is that it's a little cramped - as in you can't open the oven door all the way. The room was very clean, and the access to the beach was very easy. Get one on the first floor if you can! That way you can walk right from your patio to the… Read more

I was traveling with a Road Scholars hiking group, and I am a very easy-going traveler. I don't need much, and I don't go into travel situations with expectations. This hotel receives 5 stars from me for LOCATION. Just steps from the beach, the location was really excellent. The ability to step out of my room and walk on the beach, to witness breath-taking sunsets, to see early morning rainbows over the ocean, it was lovely, truly lovely. Front desk was helpful, and got me into my room early. From talking to the other members of the travel group, there is variability in the room types and layout. Some have kitchenettes. Mine was minimal, a single on the ground floor, a "nothing special" room, a little dreary, but with walk-out access to the beach. No screens on the patio door (I was told they are removed due to frequently being blown off by the winds). There was no mosquito problem, so that was fine. Working fridge and coffee maker, and tv (which I barely used). The bed was less than 100% comfortable, but definitely sleep-able. There was PLENTY OF HOT WATER and the shower was GREAT. If you are doing a trip to Florence and the Oregon coast, this is a good spot to light, if you are not needy or of very high standards. I liked it. I would go there again. Read less

I had no expectations and I was very pleasantly surprised. While the room was not fancy the bed was super comfortable and the views to die for. Friendly staff and friendly guests. I will definately be back.
