Driftwood Shores Resort and Conference Center

Oregon, USA

The hotel

Every room at Driftwood Shores faces the ocean, and that’s what really places it on the map. In fact it’s the only oceanfront hotel for miles. They’ve maximised on this fact with a balcony or deck in every guestroom (along with complimentary WiFi and a kitchen or kitchenette), and a restaurant and lounge flooded with views over the wild sandy shoreline and dramatic Pacific surf. And you have 10 miles of beach-swept coastline starting just steps from the hotel, with the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area promising more sand-themed fun nearby. For a break from the beach, Driftwood Shores offers its ‘aquatic center’, with its heated indoor pool accessorised with a 15-seater hot tub, a children’s pool, and a mini-splash area for little ones, complete with water spray tunnel.

We have stayed at Driftwood shores a few times because it is right on the beach, with a beautiful view of the ocean. The rooms are clean and have a big balcony to sit outside and watch the waves, smell the salt air and sometimes you can spot the fishing boats along the horizon. The hotel has an indoor pool and a fountain for the kids to play in but we never used the pool, but it would be great for people with kids. We had a nice dinner in their restaurant and our table was near a window so we watched people on the beach gathered around a big fire pit - it was a great view. Read less

We found every staff member to be extremely friendly- especially Nancy-our waitress in the restaurant- who gave us a handwritten list of sites to see. We enjoyed the food there a lot and felt the prices were a bargain. [They offered breakfast and lunch specials at 2 for $18]. Their portions were large, in my opinion. I honestly cannot find any fault with them. we were extremely pleased with our stay there. We'd be happy to be their guests again and would not hesitate to recommend Driftwood Shores to our closest friends. Read less

This was my first time staying at Driftwood Shores. When we first arrived to our room I was disappointed, it was not what I was expecting. This was my first time staying at Driftwood Shores. When we first arrived to our room I was disappointed, it was not what I was expecting. The room was small, it was the “additional” room for a family connected to a larger room. I immediately went back to the desk to see about a refund. I told them I was disappointed with the room and had stayed at a similar hotel for the same price with twice the room. They offered an upgrade if we stayed. We moved into another room. I thanked them for being accommodating. We carried on with our day returning to the hotel later that evening only to discover that there was no hot water in the room I called the front desk and a repairman was sent up. He confirmed that there was in fact no hot water. He returned with another room key and said we would need to move. This was at 9 pm. Thankfully this was our last move. We stayed for two nights. On our last morning our plan was to spend a quiet morning on the patio enjoying some coffee and the sounds of the ocean. Unfortunately we woke up to the maintenance crew landscaping the lawns. Mowing and running a rototiller. This went on for well over three hours. Needless to say This was not the relaxing time at the coast I was expecting. Read less

Check in was quick. On-site restaurant was okay but extremely slow. Door lock malfunctioned on our door. Front desk seemed put out when I kept coming back because the lock wouldn’t work. Front Desk Manager was a joke. When told about our experience the night prior, her response was, “I heard about that.” No apology, no empathy, nothing. Being in… Read more

Being in the travel industry, this is not a place to recommend as a place to stay. The face of your resort are your front desk staff. They need to either find new jobs where they can be happy or need additional training. Read less
