Driftwood Shores Resort and Conference Center

Oregon, USA

The hotel

Every room at Driftwood Shores faces the ocean, and that’s what really places it on the map. In fact it’s the only oceanfront hotel for miles. They’ve maximised on this fact with a balcony or deck in every guestroom (along with complimentary WiFi and a kitchen or kitchenette), and a restaurant and lounge flooded with views over the wild sandy shoreline and dramatic Pacific surf. And you have 10 miles of beach-swept coastline starting just steps from the hotel, with the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area promising more sand-themed fun nearby. For a break from the beach, Driftwood Shores offers its ‘aquatic center’, with its heated indoor pool accessorised with a 15-seater hot tub, a children’s pool, and a mini-splash area for little ones, complete with water spray tunnel.

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon which was a HUGE mistake. From the pictures on the website, your rooms looked spacious and clean with a view of the ocean. Being newlyweds we tried to save money and this motel looked like an affordable option. The ocean view was amazing but when we got to our room we were deeply disappointed. Our room was cramped and the queen bed took up most of the small room. The bathroom was also very small and looked dirty. The appliances were outdated and we felt like we were staying in a 70s motel. The walls were paper thin and we could hear our neighbors talking on each side as well as the shrieks of their obnoxious offspring. There was a door adjoining our room to the other room right next to our bed which sound traveled through. The bed was also very squeaky and uncomfortable so you can imagine it was an unromantic and sleepless night for my husband and I. Thankfully the restaurant was great, Scott was an amazing server, and our drinks were so good they made our stay there bearable. If you are on a family vacation and need a cheap beachfront place to stay then this is an affordable and decent place, otherwise do yourself a favor and find an actual hotel or airbnb. :) Read less

While not at all luxurious, all rooms have an oceanfront view. Very easy access to the beach. Has a restaurant but we didn’t use it. Cute little gift shop. Quiet and clean. No daily room service during Covid.

#####This review for Restaurant only.###### Very bad experience with the Restaurant receptionist. She is very disorganized and didn’t know what time the restaurant closes or how many people they can seat. It’s super inconvenient with 2 kids when you rely on receptionist’s words…

Great location. Easy walk to a great beach. Terrible mattress, like a bag of marshmallows. Huge parking lot, but who sleeps in the parking lot? Finishes and decor more tired than Rip Van Winkle! Come into the 21st century! A nature wonderland, but that's no reason to have bird crap on your handrails! Elevator so slow it was nearly going backwards. Single queen room a bit too small to be fit for a queen. But at almost $180 with taxes the cost was a queen's ransom. Bottom line...there must be a better place nearby. Spend a bit more time searching than I did. Read less

We stayed at this property once again on 05/16 arriving at 1600. When traveling the coast, we try to make our stop the Driftwood Shores. All the rooms face the ocean. When I made the reservation, I had requested an upper floor and we were given room 422. I have always found the front desk staff to be very friendly and accommodating. The room was a double and came equipped with a full kitchen including range/oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, full size refrigerator and a place setting for six. Both beds were amazingly comfortable and had 4 pillows. The sliding door blocked all outside wind noise and the balcony was large enough so the two of us could sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the threatening sky. Due to the ’rona the restaurant is only open for dinner from 1600 – 2000, Tuesday – Saturday and as we stayed on a Sunday were not able to sample the cuisine. The pool is open but reservations must be made for a 2 hour period of time. The hotel is getting long in the tooth and needs a freshen up but such as it is, this is still a genuinely nice place to stay with direct ocean access to some of the best sand dollar hunting on the coast. Cost of the one-night stay was $161.00 before taxes. All staff encountered were very friendly. Recommend you try the Driftwood Shores when traveling the Oregon Coast. Read less
