Driftwood Shores Resort and Conference Center

Oregon, USA

The hotel

Every room at Driftwood Shores faces the ocean, and that’s what really places it on the map. In fact it’s the only oceanfront hotel for miles. They’ve maximised on this fact with a balcony or deck in every guestroom (along with complimentary WiFi and a kitchen or kitchenette), and a restaurant and lounge flooded with views over the wild sandy shoreline and dramatic Pacific surf. And you have 10 miles of beach-swept coastline starting just steps from the hotel, with the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area promising more sand-themed fun nearby. For a break from the beach, Driftwood Shores offers its ‘aquatic center’, with its heated indoor pool accessorised with a 15-seater hot tub, a children’s pool, and a mini-splash area for little ones, complete with water spray tunnel.

I selected this hotel based on reviews here. Like others have said, the rooms do not look quite like the pictures on their website. I selected this hotel based on reviews here. Like others have said, the rooms do not look quite like the pictures on their website. The main reason I selected this was the beach location, and the views from the room. I am so glad I did. I requested a ground floor, which they were able to accomodate. We were in the center of the building, so we could walk out of the patio and a short walk to the beach. This beach is why you need to stay here, it is unbelievably beautiful. Not very crowded either, so it feels like you have your own private beach. The pool was nice to have, and the kitchenette was sufficient. The beds are not the most comfortable, but like I said, you are coming here for a fantastic beach. We came here first before heading to Seaside/Cannon Beach. We wish we would have stayed here the entire time. Read less

STAY HERE !!!! Clean, Quiet, friendly staff. A perfect little kitchen. Not crowded. Excellent pool for kids. Of all the Hotels we stayed at on our trip this was by far the best one. The little pub around the corner that was recommended by the staff has good food too.

Every room in the hotel has a view of the ocean, it is great. The location is the best part of this hotel. Long stretches of beach, guests having fires and kids playing on the grassy knolls. I loved feeding the sea gulls that hang out on the lawn. They loved popcorn. I also appreciated decent pillows that offered some support. The shower pressure was very strong, I loved it. And the water in this area is sand filtered, some of the best you will ever taste. Towels were lush enough. From the dining room we could see whale spouts. My room had a fridge and microwave which was handy. But there were some misses. The front desk staff could use some customer service training, how to be friendly, pleasant, not act like you are inconveniencing them, not talk bad about co-workers in front of guests…..They seemed pretty stressed out. My room key said 2xx. When I went to it, the door was wide open, which took me aback. I went down to the desk to inquire. They said that they would move me to another room. A couple walked in behind me and asked when room 2xx would be ready. I laughed and mentioned I had that room also. The woman at the desk was obviously stressed. She blamed housekeeping. Ya know, I feel like they are an easy target, hardest job in the hotel. I have never seen 3-4 people in a hotel room at once cleaning it. They had another key for me (they had made two apparently, the woman acted like it was my fault and I showed her the key sleeve, my name and room 2xx). I got 1xx. It was on the first floor and on the other side of the hotel, far from where my group met and ate every day. Quite inconvenient. The parking area was small, I had to park way out and schlep my bags in. Pain. I called the woman at the desk and offered my feedback. I told her that I had booked the room months ago. She said it was the Salespersons job and she would have her call me the next day. Never happened. One roll of toilet paper in the room, no extras, really?! I had to go down and get another roll after running out in the night. Sucked. I could not figure out how to set the cheap alarm clock. I called the desk, they didn’t know either and sent the nice safety guy who tried his best. I set my phone and a wake up call from the desk. The others in my group would say how they left their doors open all night on the balconies, listened to the ocean, a deterrent for a first floor room. I requested non-smoking. There were signs on the sliding doors to patio that said no smoking on patio, but my neighbors didn’t follow it. I couldn’t keep my door open for the fresh air because their smoke rolled into my room. Being allergic, this is very frustrating. The worst part about my stay was no internet or phone service. They had technical difficulties with their wi-fi most of the time. I had to literally drive into the town of Florence to catch up on emails and make calls. Sucked. Glad I had a rental car. The hotel had one computer in the lobby to check emails on, it stayed busy. VERIZON seemed to be only service that got a signal, no AT & T. Our meals for the week were ok. You had to get there first because things would run out. And they kept switching our meeting room location. They tried to short us on dessert one night, then scrambled to get a strawberry shortcake together. They just seemed understaffed or unorganized at times. I would go back, if the price was right, with low expectations. Read less

Love this place!! Ended up on the oregon coast on a whim. Was able to book this room as a one night stay for the evening. Gal on the phone was wonderful and I asked to be put in the ground floor. Came and checked in. Was greeted promptly and checked in. Room was ready early. We received a ground floor room as promised. Room was perfect. It was our first time getting a basic queen room, we usually do the king, and it was nice. Smaller then the king, but just fine. View is perfect and I love being able to walk out of the slider straight to the grassy area and beach beyond. Room was clean, and bed was the best one out of the 6200 mile road trip. Only issue, and it's a small one. We went to the pool room to sit in the hot tub, and the heater in the pool room was blazing. Like so so hot in the room itself. The air in the room was as hot as the water in the hot tub. It made sitting in the actual hot tub unbearable. We look forward to the hot tub here at the end of am evening, so it was a bummer. Should be looked into. Other then that, everything was great as usual 😁 Read less
