Hotel Modera

Portland, Oregon

The hotel

Like a living art installation, Hotel Modero echoes downtown Portland’s cultural soul. Its setting among the sparkling theatre and art scene is just the start. The building itself has the makings of modern art, with its mid-century minimalism played out in crisp lines and simple colours. Inside, they’ve curated a collection of more than 500 regional artworks, which amplify the simplicity of the design. And outside, the showpiece of its urban garden is a 15 foot high living wall – a ‘gallery’ of plants that provides the backdrop for the private courtyard’s fire pits, lantern-lit walkway, and neatly clipped planting. It’s an ideal spot for cocktails and small plates from Nel Centro, the swanky yet simple hotel restaurant, which transports you straight to northern Italy and southeast France with its Riviera-inspired dishes.

After further research they have an Instagram account for all the dogs that stay (zagswags), so I knew this would be a good change for my hotel experience in Portland. I LOVED IT!!!! The bathroom is large and covered in marble and very well lit, which is a big deal for me. I love the blue color of the walls and the décor of the room. The $15 credit for the mini bar allowed me a little treat courtesy of the hotel. They do not have a gym but something better, passes to 24 hour Fitness-I was able to get on my beloved stepmill, which 90% of hotel gyms do not have. I lucked out and had a great week of weather for May and the patio at the hotel was perfect to grab some sun. The staff was really friendly, especially Shelby with her rose colored glasses. I had a lovely stay and will be back in June!! Read less

this was my first time staying at a hotel Zags. The lobby was beautiful. I love the ability to choose my own adventure. The gear shed was something new I have never seen. Bikes, boards, camera stuff, different adventure kits. The service was outstanding. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to make me feel at home. The room was very… Read more

As someone who sends a lot of time in hotels (I basically live in them), it's always so nice to be in a great location- especially when downtown. It doesn't get better than this! It's within walking distance of all of the great shopping and hotspots, but a few streets over so it's nice a quiet at night. It's also nearby stores that are great if… Read more

It's within walking distance of all of the great shopping and hotspots, but a few streets over so it's nice a quiet at night. It's also nearby stores that are great if you need to quick pop in and grab a few things (hey there Target!). The staff at the hotel and at the restaurant attached are wonderful! The really cool part of the hotel is the gear shed- it's been great to enjoy the spring weather in Portland by borrowing one of their bikes and if you had kiddos- there are lots of things in there that would be great for them to use to help keep them entertained (soccer balls, skateboards, hoverboards...). Love this hotel! :) Read less

Th rooms were a bit small, but the rooms were configured to fully maximize all the space. Everything was nice, clean, and tasteful. Drinks and food in the restaurant were also amazing! Everyone we encountered was polite, friendly, and helpful.

Valet parking is a bit too expensive. Looking forward to my next trip to Portland. Read less
