Kimpton Hotel Monaco Portland

Portland, Oregon

The hotel

Proudly promising all of Portland’s biggest attractions, bikes, brews, and books, Kimpton Hotel Monaco’s downtown spot makes experiencing them easy. Complimentary bikes are just the beginning; there’s a free 24-hour gym, complimentary hot drinks in the lounge each morning, and wine hour in the cosy lobby each night, often featuring piano or jazz swing bands or showcasing local chocolatiers or wineries. High ceilings and picture windows are reminders of its department store heritage, while touches like bird-sprinkled wallpaper adds a whimsical twist. The happy hour’s equally playful; so good it actually lasts three hours, it features small plates, microbrews, and cocktails. And, after you stroll back from Pioneer Square, the waterfront, or the block-long Powell’s bookstore, the hotel’s Red Star Tavern’s ready with innovative American dishes.

Really enjoyed this. I liked the upscale but funky vibe I saw in the pictures, the location was great, and the price was right. What an excellent find! Staff was great, from the guy who parked my car to every single person I spoke with or saw. Excellently walkable to the Pearl District, shopping, good eats. Super clean, and they're very… Read more

Staff was great, from the guy who parked my car to every single person I spoke with or saw. Excellently walkable to the Pearl District, shopping, good eats. Super clean, and they're very attentive to COVID protocols. With the kitchen closed they've arranged breakfast and lunch delivery from nearby Cheryl's, which is superb. Nice little extra: there's a serious line outside Cheryl's for weekend brunch. Rather than wait in the rain, tra-la, you can just call from your room. Teeny-tiny demerit: I wish they'd arrange something similar for dinner. Once you're snug in your warm comfy bed in those lovely linens, who wants to go out in the wet to grab a meal? They will send up bar snacks, but that small list doesn't include real food. It tops out at goldfish crackers. Still! I had a superb time here. This is where I'll stay in Portland, period. Read less

Super friendly, helpful and accommodating front desk staff! Our room was a nice size, bed was comfortable, large bathroom and clean. Able to see sunrise from the windows. Worked out in gym that has a peloton bike, treadmills weights, etc. Location is convenient to a mall, a couple of good coffee spots, public transportation and other walkable… Read more

Worked out in gym that has a peloton bike, treadmills weights, etc. Location is convenient to a mall, a couple of good coffee spots, public transportation and other walkable sites. Our only wish is USB ports. No other issues of concern. Would highly recommend! Read less

We made use of the valet parking and were able to walk all over downtown to see and do everything we wanted to. I would 100% stay here again and definitely recommend it. The rooms were great, luxurious without being overbearing, unique decor and furnishings, front desk staff and valet very professional, comfortable bed, nice linens. Had to take a star though: no in-room coffee maker (in PORTLAND of all places! Criminal!), no bathroom fan so it was too steamy to use the mirror, no restaurant (this is probably due to Covid than anything the hotel is responsible for), no doorman, no Aveda toiletries (this was one of my favorite memories of staying here so long ago!), only one robe for a room that sleeps 4, and it’s loud (I get that it’s a historic building, but even on the 8th floor, it was noisy to the point of keeping us awake. And we could hear our neighbor coughing.) Still, it was a great experience. I am looking forward to my next concert at the Moda center so I can stay here instead of driving back home after! Read less

The staff were very friendly and helpful. I stayed with my boyfriend and our friends in a double suite room, which had plenty of room for four people. There was a spacious sitting area with a couch and two chairs and the bedroom was separated with sliding doors for privacy. The beds were extremely comfortable. The style of the hotel was funky and bright - the opposite of boring! I highly recommend this hotel in Portland. Read less

We were not ready to leave the Royal Sonesta. It has stepped up and gone above and beyond during this pandemic & the destruction that has been expressed in this city. Scott was running the hotel when we checked in & does a great job. He obviously knows many hotel jobs and, has been a driver for the hotels expert services, during our stay. Even though the restrictions have limited the hotels ability to provide the amenities we have always received when staying here, regardless of the hotel name on the door, Scott stepped up and handled our registration and housekeeping requests just as if both jobs were his and, we were his primary responsibility. Our son just moved to Portland. We hope to return. Read less
