Kimpton Hotel Monaco Portland

Portland, Oregon

The hotel

Proudly promising all of Portland’s biggest attractions, bikes, brews, and books, Kimpton Hotel Monaco’s downtown spot makes experiencing them easy. Complimentary bikes are just the beginning; there’s a free 24-hour gym, complimentary hot drinks in the lounge each morning, and wine hour in the cosy lobby each night, often featuring piano or jazz swing bands or showcasing local chocolatiers or wineries. High ceilings and picture windows are reminders of its department store heritage, while touches like bird-sprinkled wallpaper adds a whimsical twist. The happy hour’s equally playful; so good it actually lasts three hours, it features small plates, microbrews, and cocktails. And, after you stroll back from Pioneer Square, the waterfront, or the block-long Powell’s bookstore, the hotel’s Red Star Tavern’s ready with innovative American dishes.

The staff was absolutely fabulous, incredibly kind and helpful. Scottt, Rachel, Joel, and Bryson were wonderful, joyful and bright, even at 1 AM. Would 100% stay here again, gorgeous hotel. Comfortable beds, wide open space, lovely view and a great area to hang out!

No valet parking, no wine social and no maid service. I'm not sure if it was because of the change of ownership or because Portland was trashed by the riots but this was the worse stay we have had at this property and will not stay here again.

Whimsical and full of personality! Spatiaux rooms and friendly staff. We went there on a romantic getaway and it was perfect! We saw families staying as well. A SPA is connected to the hotel and is located smack in the middle of the city. We will return here when back in Portland for sure.

Beautiful hotel, perhaps not in the bet part of town for tourists, but the Pearl District and waterfront park are just a short walk away. Visited during covid, so low occupancy, low prices, and the usual limited services. Got the "queen queen suite", which was excellent - three separate rooms, so my travelling partner and I each had plenty of personal space. Friendly service, and a microwave in the Ice room, which was quite useful. Food trucks are nearby, or there are plenty of places to sit outdoors for dinner or a beer within a mile. The only unpleasant aspect of this hotel, and the reason I won't return, is the TV. They've crippled it via a custom remote, so you can't plug your own media into the HDMI ports. In a time when kids regularly travel with game consoles (for example), not being able to plug into the TV is a big drawback. Worse, they've limited free entertainment options (just very basic cable, with plenty of ads in the guide for their pay services!) to such an extent that the TV is really useless, unless you want to pay $20 to watch Liam Neesen for 90 minutes in Honest Thief. It's a cynical way to treat your guests, and there's no reason for it. Read less
