We visited during covid, and they were very prepared to keep everyone safe. The place is immaculate, and the staff is very friendly. One of the things I like in a hotel is a shower. Their shower was perfect.

The a/c in the building was out due to the heat wave but we were completely comfortable. We would have never known the a/c was out of service as the hotel was very cool and comfortable. There was a portable a/c in our room which worked perfectly fine. Beautiful property and staff were very welcoming.

We selected The Benson for our getaway, as we were able to use timeshare points through RCI. Although downtown Portland is definitely still struggling to recover from the past year plus of pandemic and social unrest, the staff at The Benson are definitely maintaining the welcoming atmosphere and level of service Mr. Simon Benson would have expected. This beautiful building is a site to behold, and has many lovely touches to be enjoyed, including the "Historic Stairwell" that was fun to visit. The Palm Court Restaurant was not yet open, but Linda provided us with our satisfactory Grab & Go breakfast each morning, and there's a great kiosk across the street, Oak Street Coffee, if you want a latte or other espresso beverage rather than brewed coffee in the lobby. Many places to visit are within walking distance, including Powell's City of Books, Stumptown Coffee Roasters and the waterfront. Portland also has a pretty nice public transit system, which includes light rail that will transport you between airport and hotel for $2.50 - just keep in mind it's about a 45-minute ride. Read less

The Benson is a beautiful historic building that was clean and welcoming when we arrived. We were informed a week prior to arriving that the A/C was broken, but with a fan, windows open, and cool nighttime temps it was bearable. The hotel offered several discounts to make up for the lack of A/C. Maybe because it was the tail end of Covid, but the… Read more
The Benson is a beautiful historic building that was clean and welcoming when we arrived. We were informed a week prior to arriving that the A/C was broken, but with a fan, windows open, and cool nighttime temps it was bearable. The hotel offered several discounts to make up for the lack of A/C. Maybe because it was the tail end of Covid, but the bar/restaurant area was closed. So while the hotel was nice enough, the city of Portland is in a state of crises with drug/alcohol and homeless populations living through the area in tent cities. Many stores and restaurants are boarded up. We wondered if we had stumbled onto the set of the Walking Dead. Glad we only stayed one night and moved on. Read less

Could and should have been much better. Service was still hampered by Covid restrictions but no excuse for air conditioning to be broken with no repair in site. Limited staff so we were on our own for many things.
