Sunriver Resort

Sun River, Oregon

The hotel

More village than hotel, Sunriver Resort’s part of a private 3,300 acre community along the Deschutes River, in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Designed to immerse you in al fresco experiences, it’s filled with all manner of outdoorsy attractions. There are the simple pleasures, like 40 miles of biking and hiking trails, and stargazing at the observatory. And then there are the uber-indulgent ones, like stables, a marina, a spa, 9 dining experiences ranging from gourmet to beer garden, an airstrip, and 63 holes of golf spread across 4 courses, one of which will host the 2017 PGA Professional Championship. A destination in itself, The Cove is Sunriver’s swimming zone, with dining, a zero-entry pool, fire pits, even nature trails. Thank goodness they lay on free transport around the resort.

Love central Oregon - Sunriver resort is iconic. Not aging well or keeping staffing training adequate for the beautiful destination resort it once was. Overpriced dining and only a resort shuttle for transportation option. Had a couple outstanding staff members, however housekeeping was not the best and bar underwhelming.

The lodge out buildings have been updated nicely. Was a clean and open look and feel. Fireplaces are a great feature. Bed was pretty firm and leaned into the middle. Pillows could have some more variety.

Had a lovely time. Only problem, I lost an earring. If you found a circular, blue dangle, it is mine. Please let me know if it is found. I was there on business. Rooms, dining and meeting areas were very nice.

The food, the venue in the deep fresh snow, the shuttle service so that we could all indulge in champagne (!), and the very accommodating staff were the highlights of our family weekend away! Several opportunities for improvement were: at the wedding venue, it was not open to the public so there was less treatment of ice for the walkways around the property. Of course, my boys went outside to play in the snow, and slipped on the ice covering the walkways which caused bumps on heads, and skinned elbows. The staff was very nice, and called facilities to come salt the walkways immediately. However it would be nice to have the walkways treated prior to the party, knowing that all of us would be there. Second the restaurant forgot our condiments for room service, no big deal we managed. Thirdly my son seems to have left his iPad behind in our hotel room. We sent an email requesting help and have not heard back a week later. If they had found electronics in the room after we checked out, it would be nice if they had called us proactively; we are still hoping for a confirmation that our iPad has been found and is being taken care of! When I checked into the room it had not power and it was getting dark. VERY UNWELCOMING! Eech room that is very expensive should have power, what am I paying for, a camping experience? At 4am my first night, the room alarm clock went off ruining my sleep! Who uses a room alarm clock these days and why is it set for 4 am?
