The Saguaro Palm Springs

Palm Springs, USA

The hotel

The strapline, ‘Pina Coladas for breakfast – no judgements’, sets the feel-free-to-just-be tone of the Saguaro (that’s Sa-Wah-Roh, pronunciation fans). This rainbow-coloured oasis – just a hop and a skip from downtown Palm Springs – has everything you might need wrapped up a Pinata-bright Mexi-Cali package that’s as cheerful as it is chic. It’s no wonder the Saguaro has backdropped numerous fashion mag shoots in its time. But even if the only runway you’ve ever graced is at Heathrow you owe it to yourself to hit the Saguaro. Test the tacos and sample the ceviche at the El Jefe restaurant, perfect your Upward Facing Two Foot Staff in one of the daily yoga classes, or simply take the short trip from your balcony to the pool, frozen daiquiri in hand, and blisss out under the desert sun.

Rooms are nice and were clean. Hallways and elevators smell like the pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. Now for the clientele. Eric at the El Jefe bar was awesome. Food was also very good and tasty for bar food. This should be classified as an ADULTS ONLY hotel!!!!! Over the two days we were there, we saw a girl flash her boob at her friends, girls “twerking” on guys and other girls, girls simulating sex, smoking of joints & snorting coke at the pool and girls drinking shots off of other girls thong clad butts in the doggie style position. All the while our friends 14, 9 and 5 year olds were in the pool with us. It was like a girls and guys gone wild episode. When we asked the security guard if he could ask one particularly xrated group to tone it down, he said no he could not and would not do that. It’s what happens there. Needless to say, we will not be going back. Read less

This is a hotel that was redone a number of years ago where they added lots of fun, zesty punches of color and put in a good restaurant (well---two of them---the Tapa Resturant closed), and had one great strength that the hotel is focused on, a great pool area. This is a hotel that was redone a number of years ago where they added lots of fun, zesty punches of color and put in a good restaurant (well---two of them---the Tapa Resturant closed), and had one great strength that the hotel is focused on, a great pool area. And it also has a very nice staff who were extremely courteous (talking primarily the front desk staff). The pool area is still the strength of the hotel and the main reason you should stay here---but the flip side of this is that for a good pool, there was ZERO poolside service, just a poolside bar that is supposed to be open from 10AM onward. Now maybe this will change, but lack of poolside service was a turnoff (contrast this to the Ace Hotel that has excellent poolside service or the Kimpton Rowan which has amazing poolside service at the rooftop pool (but you will pay more money). The rooms are fine---they don't try to be anything special but they are fresh, and the midweek rates can be excellent---another strength of the hotel. The hotel is about five minutes away from downtown Palm Springs, so you're not far away from a plethora of good restaurants and bars. The hotel is across the street from the Sunrise shopping center which has a nice Italian Restaurant and Vietnamese Restaurant (and a market). This hotel is probably best if you come with a group of friends and make a party of it and if you don't really want a hotel that has a great bar with poolside service. The irony is that we felt that the hotel leaves a lot of money on the table by not having any poolside service. Alcohol is a great profit center but for whatever reason (at least during our three day visit) it didn't exist. Maybe another time would be different. Read less

Hotel felt much more like a motel. Was not worth the price, although the service was very great. Every worker was kind and attentive, but this hotel was the filthiest I've ever stayed in, by a landslide. A/C blew big chunks of dust all over the side table, bed, and carpeting. Bathroom was not cleaned. Long curly hairs on the walls. Stains on the… Read more

Every worker was kind and attentive, but this hotel was the filthiest I've ever stayed in, by a landslide. A/C blew big chunks of dust all over the side table, bed, and carpeting. Bathroom was not cleaned. Long curly hairs on the walls. Stains on the carpeting and chipped paint. I wouldn't feel comfortable walking barefoot on the floor in this hotel room. The worst part was a 2 inch cockroach crawling on the walls and on our bathroom towels. We didn't stay long, and didn't want the hassle of switching rooms on our short trip. I hear the renovated rooms are better, so it might be worth the trip to check those out, since the hotel staff was all very kind. Read less

Received their e-blast saying they were open and figured wth let's start gettin back to the world. Glad I did, the rate was perfect and the service was top notch. They did little things throughout to comply with reopening safety protocol and to my surprise, the tacos at El Jefe were amazing. I usually stay at The Saguaro when I do PS and will… Read more
