Loews Philadelphia Hotel

Philadelphia, USA

The hotel

An incredible hotel in a stunning location, the Loews is actually situated in the historic PSFS Building – Philadelphia’s first ever skyscraper! As well as spacious, well-equipped guest rooms, you’ll also enjoy the Loews brand of service – impeccable! For a heart-of-the-city hotel, the facilities are outstanding. The fitness centre not only features state-of-the-art equipment but also a two-lane heated lap pool. Pampering is also a priority – book an appointment at the world-class spa*, a relaxing massage perhaps or a beautifying facial. There are restaurants all around you but the Loews very own Bank & Bourbon should not be missed. It’s also a great place to enjoy a pre-dinner drink – a signature cocktail perhaps before hitting the town.

Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way - Covid-19 sucks. I am not encouraging travel, whether for work or pleasure. That is a decision that should be up to the individual, and if they decide to do it they should follow all rules and regulations in effect so as to be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem. I was blown away by Loews from the minute I walked into the cavernous lobby. The gentleman who checked me in (whose name I do not recall) was incredibly friendly and took the time to address all of the health and safety protocols in place at the hotel (in addition to being able to accommodate an early check-in - a HUGE help!). My room (and indeed the whole hotel) was spotless clean and well-appointed. The bed was luxurious, and there was plenty of room to have my little office set up while also being able to step away and just admire the insane views from my room. Superb! When I was able to pull myself away from work, I wandered down to the lobby, where Platini at the front desk provided me with a bag full of bottled water - complimentary. What hotel does this nowadays? Especially when every hotel is looking even more to nickel and dime travelers to help their bottom line, Loews is making it easier on travelers and helping them from having to go outside and walk around. Sheer genius! The Bank & Bourbon bar reopened during my stay (as part of the reopening of Philadelphia in general - this city has clearly done things right), and it was executed flawlessly. Plexiglass protectors were in place, seats were cordoned off to ensure proper distancing, disposable cups were used instead of having to reuse glassware, and the bar was in order and immaculate. You have to order some type of food in order to sit in the bar area with your drink (or you can take your drink to your room), and I thought the food was tasty and well-priced. Again, Loews hits a home run. I generally don't expect much from downtown hotels in the United States. Most of them are serviceable and get the job done, but they're just cookie cutter and completely forgettable. Even during a very trying time for the hospitality industry and society in general, Loews is clearly going the extra mile and is providing super high-quality service and taking its responsibilities seriously in helping to keep things clean and sanitary. Hats off to the entire team at this hotel - it takes a lot to impress me, and Loews did it easily. Read less
