Kimpton Hotel Palomar San Diego

San Diego, USA

The hotel

We love the chill out spaces at this chic hotel. Firstly there’s the Palomar’s lobby living room where you’ll find the evening drinks reception and morning hot drinks. You should also try the soulful Mexican street food at Curadero, the hotel’s flagship restaurant — the cocktails are good here too. At the outdoor rooftop pool and lounge there’s more cocktails, plus a pool menu and great views of downtown. Talking of downtown, if you want to stroll out, you’re near the shop and restaurants of the Victorian Gaslamp District and an easy walk to the waterfront.

We decided to get away for the weekend and spend a night at Kimpton Palomar. From the moment we checked in, the staff was kind, professional and accommodating. George and Astrid working at the Front Desk made us to feel comfortable and safe and were more than gracious. We stayed in a Skyline King room which seemed to be recently remodeled and it felt clean and safe. There are hand sanitizer stations all throughout the hotel as well as safety glass at the front desk. We even saw a staff member wiping down the credit card pin-pad after each check in. The pool was awesome and provided a relaxing afternoon. The hotel is just steps away from all the restaurants in downtown. Thanks Palomar for an amazing stay. We will be back soon. Read less

I received a much-appreciated upgrade as an IHG Platinum member (Room 1105 is has spectacular views!). Also really enjoyed the pool area and the proximity to everything in the Gaslamp District. As a rebuttal to some of the negative reviews I read prior to my stay: 1. If you don't want to see any homeless people, don't stay in the downtown area of any major US city. 2. If you don't want to pay $40-50 for parking, don't stay in the downtown area of any major US city. Also, I found a parking lot 3 blocks away that was much cheaper than the one across the street. I'll be returning to Kimpton San Diego for sure...already looking forward to my next stay! Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Unsecure, homeless magnet, theft, just avoid this place like the plague would be my advice.

Bag got stolen from my room, just vanished, they have no security, no cameras, pretend they do a door audit that somehow says it was your key with no actual real follow up. Their staff is lazy, inattentive. Even without the theft and terrible service, the small TV and lack of amenities was glaring. The area the hotel is in is run down, full of… Read more

Their staff is lazy, inattentive. Even without the theft and terrible service, the small TV and lack of amenities was glaring. The area the hotel is in is run down, full of homeless people that hang out right in front of the building. Heck, the day I checked out, I got to play step over the feces. Read less

Had another nice stay at the Palomar. Really appreciated the Covid-distancing taking place at check in. Had a lovely room. The only things I miss are the self serve coffee in the morning and the fact that curadero wasn't open. I'll be back soon when things get back to normal. Thanks!
