Kimpton Hotel Palomar San Diego

San Diego, USA

The hotel

A sanctuary of style and subtlety in SoCal, Hotel Palomar’s both high-design and low-key. Inside, Brazilian walnut and Jerusalem bone limestone are set against calm earthy colours. And luxury features like the wine reception and gym are set against homely touches, like morning hot drinks. Curadero, the hotel’s flagship restaurant, creates a celebration of soulful Mexican street food with mindfully mixed cocktails. The Level Four rooftop pool and lounge features cocktails with a pool menu and downtown views any time of year. And downtown’s your address here, near the Victorian buildings of the shop and restaurant filled Gaslamp district.

We traveled in March to visit our son and daughter-in-law and attend our granddaughter's first birthday party. We had been to San Diego twice before and stayed in different hotels each time so wanted to try someplace new this time. When our travel agent recommended the Kimpton we were a little skeptical since we had never even heard of Kimpton. I read the reviews on TripAdvisor and decided to give it a try and we are so glad we did! The front desk staff was great during check-in and our stay just kept getting better. We loved the clean, beautiful room and I especially loved the plush towels and toiletries supplied in the bathroom. I will never need to bring shampoo and conditioner with me again if I stay at a Kimpton! We loved the coffee/tea in the mornings and happy hour every day in the lobby. The location is great - convenient walk to the Gas Lamp district and down by the waterfront so you have your choice of many restaurants and shops. (We ate in the Mexican restaurant at the hotel a couple of times and we were underwhelmed... the food was lukewarm at best and taste was just average.) What truly made our stay at the Kimpton outstanding was the staff who made us feel like superstars. Cameron and KJ both went out of their way each and every day to make us feel welcome, appreciated and at home at the Kimpton. They couldn't do enough to make us happy and comfortable and we loved talking to them and getting to know them. We are planning a return stay at the Kimpton in the near future, largely due to the great service and friendships we've made with Cameron and KJ. When we travel we love getting to know the hotel staff and this experience was definitely one of our top trips! Book a stay at this Kimpton, you won't be sorry!! Read less

Always a good stay at the Palomar when I travel for business in San Diego. Room is clean and comfortable and easy access to the Gas Lamp Area. As a business woman traveling I feel safe staying in this hotel, staff are always friendly and accommodating Palomar is my first choice when I go to San Diego either business or fun.

Nice hotel, great location. The room was nice and the staff was friendly. However the bed was terrible. I felt like I was sleeping on a futon mattress. Really disappointing for the price point of this hotel.

The hotel was really amazing! All of the amenities were great! The gym has so many machines! It was way better than any hotel gym I’ve been to. The free bikes were so awesome and fun to use for a whole day! The only think I would say is the room we had was quite smaller than I anticipated

Roof top pool and patio (seen outside our room) looked really fun, but didn’t get to check it out. Great location for bars and restaurants but could hear all the night time entertainment in the area all night - super loud! Didn’t get much sleep before an early morning trip to the airport. But otherwise comfortable beds and rooms... Read less
