Kimpton Hotel Palomar San Diego

San Diego, USA

The hotel

We love the chill out spaces at this chic hotel. Firstly there’s the Palomar’s lobby living room where you’ll find the evening drinks reception and morning hot drinks. You should also try the soulful Mexican street food at Curadero, the hotel’s flagship restaurant — the cocktails are good here too. At the outdoor rooftop pool and lounge there’s more cocktails, plus a pool menu and great views of downtown. Talking of downtown, if you want to stroll out, you’re near the shop and restaurants of the Victorian Gaslamp District and an easy walk to the waterfront.

Need more consistent communication between the wait staff. There were several times we requested something simple - cups or forks. And hours later after a shift change someone would forget that we requested this. We had to change rooms because our original room was dirty. Which is SCARY to have to come to your room and have to clean and disinfect it after house keeping was supposed to already do that. Certain things are unacceptable to see in a Spa Suite that was a birthday reservation ie facial smudges on the entry mirrors, cigarette butts and condom wrappers trapped in the holes of the balcony half wall, hair in the tub, food coating the phone buttons. Just things that I would have cleaned up if I had a guest at my house, and definitely expected to be thoroughly handled before I arrived for check in. Cleaning staff definitely needs re-training! They moved my room to a larger suite on the 15th floor that looked like it was cleaned better and didn't have any of the dirty details of the previous room. However, I called and asked when my room would be clean if it could be cleaned earlier etc and was reassured that the cleaning could not be rushed/expedited. So it was doubly surprising to find that not only were we not able to check in any earlier but it was hardly clean. Read less

This place is beaten down. FOR THE PRICE POINT it should be maintained better. It's true that the facilities aren't that great either. BUT let's start with the cleaning staff, shall we? Also, I do realize that there are tons of homeless in SD now (very sad), but this particular area is one of the worst. Although, I'm not lowering my review due to the area, because I knew that when I booked this place. This place also lacks character. Staff is also just "meh." Very lukewarm to cold. All in all, there are really no redeeming qualities for staying here. We, as a couple, have stayed at 10+ different places in S.D. Gaslamp over the past 2 years, and this was definitely bottom of the barrel. We won't be staying here again. Live and learn. Read less

Cam B. is hands down the most incredible hotel experience I’ve had. The establishment was great, yes however Cam took my experience as a guest to the next level with his amazing personality and customer service because of him I would definitely recommend this hotel.
