Would have preferred a softer towel but that is my taste -The restaurant for breakfast is great quality as is the service..ate there every morning Never got a car and Uber & Lyft were easy and cheap from airport and getting around. Would definitely go back when in San Diego again Read less

We had two rooms in the hotel in December. The rooms were beautiful and the staff very nice. However, the bathroom door is made of frosted glass which makes privacy challenging. We had two rooms in the hotel in December. The rooms were beautiful and the staff very nice. However, the bathroom door is made of frosted glass which makes privacy challenging. Much worse, there is no effective blackout in the room since the blackout roller shades in the bathroom leave quite some space for a very bright outside light to enter the bathroom and therefore, due to the frosted glass door, the bedroom. Possibly partly due to this issue, my daughter couldn't get a good night sleep for the several nights we stayed there and became pretty ill. In addition, when I asked that they change the beds one evening since during the day they didn't arrange the room due to a misunderstanding, which indeed was my fault, it took quite some convincing to get them to do that. The area seemed safe though not interesting. Read less

Linens were also very nice. The US Grant is over 100 years old and listed on the Historic Register, thus there were undoubtedly limits on what could be done in the redo. The Grant Grill (separately reviewed - we had breakfast there) is dark, but booths are cosy. As we live in San Diego, we had driven to the hotel, and valeted our car overnight - VERY PRICEY at $49! The only recompense was that our breakfast was free due to our Marriott status. Public areas are also redecorated and spacious. Aside from the outrageous valet fee, cost was reasonable and the hotel was very comfortable. Read less

Stayed here on a business trip from NY. This hotel combines old world US charm with Buckingham Palace. Great rooms, great mattresses, great staff, clean, chic and just enough "crust" to feel like a VIP. Highly recommend!

Wanted to spend a night at a different city so I decided on surprising my boyfriend with this hotel in SD. I got the package using my American Express so that was a plus! All staff are super accommodating, friendly, and polite. I got a king bed suite on the top floor and it had an amazing view, good size room, and large tub. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was very clean! We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and both were very delicious! They had a wonderful and delicious breakfast buffet! We would come back for sure! The only minor downside is when you go out the hotel, if you go one way toward the ocean, it’s a beautiful walk and you can head straight for the seaside village! Good restaurants, Greta atmosphere, and feels very safe. The other side I think it said Gaslamp but it wasn’t like how I remembered. I think it was the more run down side and didn’t feel as comfortable walking down the street-only downside. But you are also close to Little Italy which is nice so you can easily get around. I highly recommend this hotel and enjoyed our stay! Read less
