Dinner at the Grant Grill was excellent. A pleasant stay in every way. Read less

The property is great with a nice location just away from the hectic Gaslamp and waterfront areas. It has classy weight and feel that you just don't find in hotels these days, but didn't feel old and worn out like some historic hotels (e.g. Drake in Chicago). The staff were all very friendly and all of my interactions with them, from check-in to housekeeping to room service were pleasant and everything was handled promptly. They were all very friendly with our dog too. I wish I could have received a better upgrade as a Platinum member. I booked a grand deluxe king room and was "upgraded" to a city view - which basically meant same room, just facing the loud street with bars, cars revving, and people shouting. The trip reports I've read had Platinums booking the base level room and minimally getting upgraded to the higher floors and many receiving suites. While I didn't expect a suite, I thought they could have done better than the 5th floor (out of 10 floors). We had some noise issues with guests down the hall who didn't understand the concept of indoor voices, kept their room doors open and shouted to each other across the hallway, and let their children use the hallway as their playground. While you can't completely avoid these inconsiderate leisure travelers, you tend to have fewer of them on elite or higher floors where more seasoned travelers are assigned rooms. The gym was fantastic! I loved their equipment - rowing machine, battle ropes, kettlebells, a large open space for yoga/cross-fit and body-weight exercises and the chilled towels were a nice touch. I certainly used the gym well each day. Overall, I would make this one of my top choices for a stay in San Diego. Read less

Wife and I were here for 2 nights for my birthday in Nov. We parked our car less than half a mile away since it was $15 a night. It was only about a 6 minute walk from that covered lot. The hotel location was pretty awesome. It was right across from the Westin Gaslamp where we usuually stay. From the hotel, Gaslamp, Waterfront, and Little Italy were all within simple walking distance. We especially appriciate how close Coava Coffee from Portland was. Our check-in process was simple. The lady who helped us was courtious and friendly. We were given a room with a nice view of the Balboa Theater. She thanked us for our loyalty and asked all the right questions for our stay. The room was comfortable and clean. We had 2 great night sleep here. Bathroom amenities were great. However, WiFi was unstable and unusable half the time. WiFi also refused to work with proper VPN via UDP or TCP protocol. I suspect they didn't really block it but it didn't really work due to the internet being unstable. We ended up not using the WiFi at all. Over all we had 2 good night sleep which was what's important. We stay in SD once a year for my birthday. Whenever we stayed at Westin, they always had a concierge contact us via email to ask if there is anything they could do to make our trip better 2 weeks before. We always get a small plate of treats and 2 bottles of beer for my birthday. US Grant didn't do this, but it wasn't a big deal. We wanted to try out other hotels this year and we will most likely not be back next year. Read less

Elegant and friendly from most of the staff. The front desk was helpful and the happy hour in the bar is welcoming. Over 100 years old with lovely elegance and a beautiful charm. The rooms recently upgraded last year. Ann Marie argued with me in the lobby about what is an Autograph hotel. Very bad start to my stay but the rest was spectacular.
