Argonaut Hotel at Fishermans Wharf

Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco

The hotel

You might feel like you’ve boarded a luxury cruise ship as you enter this distinctive boutique hotel, perched on the edge of the bay. The Argonaut’s original red brick walls, rich wood beams and ‘deck floors’ help to transport you back to San Francisco’s nautical heyday. At the same time, the plush décor provides all you need to settle in to your charming surrounds. Until, of course, those views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz lure you out to explore all that is Fisherman’s Wharf.

We then proceeded to have 4 great nights enjoying the hotel, the sights and the city. I envy those who get to stay here in future. This is not to say there aren’t niggles: drop the ‘price tag on everything’ policy (a free bottle of water of two isn’t really going to hit the bottom line at these room rates); up the water pressure; sort out the electrics so you can use a wall switch rather than have to switch on every-single-light-in-the-room individually; and please, please sort out the Dish TV system! I stayed at the Arganout for 4 nights and found the stay very pleasant. The rooms are comfortable and very clean, if not a little OTT with the nautical theme. The location is great for taking in all the attractions and a would definitely recommend this hotel.

Nice touches like games in the large lounge . Front of house staff very helpful . Decent bath and shower but could be better with standalone power shower that seems so difficult to find in US boutique hotels Read less

With the turntable for the cable car right outside our window and all the restaurants, shops and activities of Fisherman's Wharf right outside the door, we were very happy staying at the Argonaut for our two days in SF on a driving trip (do check hotel parking rates—pretty steep!). Staff were impeccable and helpful, and when we arrived late, we were even able to get a table just after closing time for a delicious meal at the Blue Mermaid hotel restaurant. Room service breakfast was also top-notch. The exposed brick, oversized porthole shape mirror, and other references to SF's seafaring history created a fun ambiance. Read less

Comfortable, convenient. Really good attached casual restaurant. Room quiet and comfortable. No significant negatives. Solid value. Waterfront location is very touristy, but hotel is surprisingly quiet.
