Argonaut Hotel at Fishermans Wharf

Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco

The hotel

Perched conveniently on the edge of the bay at Fisherman's Wharf, this nautically inspired boutique hotel has something of the feel of a luxury cruise ship. The Hotel's architecture, complete with original red brick walls and rich wood beams, embodies the rich nautical history of San Francisco in its heyday, while it's plush intricate decor nestles guests into an accommodating, lively environment that's modern and comforting. The lobby is a 'living room' complete with fireplace and working astronomer's clock above the mantel. Other maritime touches include 'deck' floors. Some of the pristine rooms have fantastic views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.

Spent a few nights in this hotel at the beginning of May. We had a room on the 3rd floor facing the bay and Alcatraz Island. Spent a few nights in this hotel at the beginning of May. We had a room on the 3rd floor facing the bay and Alcatraz Island. The hotel is very well located if you wish to visit Fisherman’s Wharf, Alcatraz, Lombard Street and the Ferry Building. The house used in the filming of Mrs Doubtfire is also not very far away in Steiner Street. If the silver screen holds your interest, there are many other movie locations not far away. Also, the Hyde Street cable car terminal - which gets you downtown-is just around the corner from the hotel as are some fine restaurants for breakfast. The hotel internally is well appointed with a nautical theme throughout. The rooms are spacious, bed is comfortable and everything works. But it is difficult to see how the rate -even booked through Expedia- can be fully justified with little luxury or whoa factor on show. Presumably it just comes down to the location as there very little else- other than a Sheraton-in the immediate area. So, if you are visiting the areas above, the Argonaut has to be your choice. If not, I wouldn’t be rushing to make a booking. Read less

Great location. Close to Fisherman's wharf and trolley station. Staff very friendly and the room was very nice. Bar and restaurant has a lot of local flavor. We totally enjoyed our stay and recommend the Argonaut as probably the best place to stay at Fisherman's Wharf.

We originally stayed here back in 2009 and when the opportunity arose for us to return to San Franciso, there was no doubt in our minds where we would stay...the Argonaut is just superb. We had a Bay View King Suite this visit and I seriously cannot fault it! The room was huge, clean and comfortable. The view is superb. The soundproofing not so good though with the noise of the entertainment from the wharf pretty loud...but then, what do you expect really?! All staff that we came across were friendly, especially the bellboys who will always chat to you and have the best hints and tips for the local area. The restaurant is always good; the food good and not overly expensive. Location is perfect; everything is within walking distance and if you're not up for that, there are a couple of cable car stops really close by. Our only real disappointment on this visit was the fact they have abandoned wine hour; this was something we really enjoyed on our last visit however this will not put us off coming back to the Argonaut again one day. Argonaut hotel was in an awesome location, staff were very friendly and provided great service and the breakfast was good. Unfortunately the room was very dark and had a slight smell to it, maybe it needed to be aired for a while (we opened the window daily to try to reduce the smell). Overall good experience

This was our third visit to San Francisco and the first time staying in Fisherman’s Wharf. The location is excellent for the tourist areas. The hotel is of a high standard and our room was excellent, with 2 queen beds and a window overlooking the cable car terminal, and a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Fisherman’s Wharf is generally an expensive area and the hotel restaurant is consistent with the surrounding restaurants, and of a good quality for breakfast and dinner. Overall, this is a great option for San Francisco and the best option for Fisherman’s Wharf. Read less
