I recently had a house emergency and needed to find a local place to stay with my 2 Great Danes in a matter of hours. This beautiful hotel was sooooo accommodating and welcoming to all of us! We had a wonderful stay at Fairmont even during covid. We wanted a home away from home just to change up our shelter-in-place scenery. Our new home for the week was a 2-bedroom residence. It was difficult to find the entrance to the lobby, but once you did, there was hand sanitizer at the entrance and at the front desk. We were greeted warmly and service overall was excellent. I was able to text concierge to request for replenishment of household items like paper towels and Splenda. The residence was immaculate. I love that each drawer was sealed off with tape ensuring indicating that the items were not touched previously and they were sanitized beforehand. Additionally, the remote controls were sanitized and put into pouches. We also appreciated the fact that certain items that were high-touch items in a hotel room (I.e. alarm clock, pens, paper, etc) were no longer in the room, but can be requested prior to or during our stay. They would sanitize it before bringing it up to the room. Besides the service, the location is perfect. It’s literally in the middle of everything. You can walk to pier 39, you can even walk to Lombard Street. We walked to the grocery store during our stay, which was a nice, flat 15 minute walk. If you stay here and buy something from the Ghirardelli Marketplace, mention that you’re staying at the Fairmont to get a discount! Would definitely return! Read less

I looked at this property online several times but was hesitant about spending that much money. In the end, I’m very glad I did. It doesn’t look like much from the street but it’s a beautiful property. The bay views cannot be beat. The one thing I was disappointed about was no breakfast. When paying that much, it would be nice, but that will not… Read more

It was crazy! Spending more for a weekend than we would on a cruise. But it was a special occasion, my wife's milestone birthday. She wanted to just hang out with the family. There are 10 in the family and that's a lot of people to lodge in someplace special in the SF Bay Area. By the time I added up all the rooms we'd need it was more attractive and expedient to find either a centrally located house rental or suites somewhere. The Fairmont Ghirardelli Square had big suites (at big rates), but every bedroom had its own bathroom; and the square had just the right restaurants for our evenings...a serious consideration should the weather become nasty. Also, it meant no need to come and go, running up the pricey parking tab. We booked a two-bed two-bath suite and a 3-bed 3-bath suite (if needed, there were couch beds in each living room. The kitchen and dining area were perfect. Our kids brought food for breakfasts and lunches (enough food for twice as many people!). In the months leading up to the big weekend, we had a few email back and forths with the concierges, who were quite helpful in securing and reconfirming our restaurant reservations and the hotel management generously had a bottle of bubbly and sweets welcoming my wife's arrival. The only snafu was a mix-up on check-in where the reception staffer took some of our family to the wrong suite. There appeared to be a lack of communication from one shift to the next and written instructions were apparently not passed on to the person relieving the one we dealt with (and apparently not entered on the computer either). As I've noted, this place can stress the average person's wallet. And a full "deposit" was charged to my VISA card several days in advance of our reservation. It all worked out fine, but it's a good idea to make sure you don't have to cancel that week. Read less
