Sheraton Fishermans Wharf

Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco

The hotel

Located just a pleasant stroll from the shops and entertainment at Pier 39, and the ferry terminal to legendary Alcatraz Island, the Sheraton Fisherman’s Wharf makes a stellar spot from which to explore the beautiful city of San Francisco. But it’s how this relaxed and friendly hotel will make you feel after a ‘hard’ day’s dim sum dining, cable car riding and Golden Gate snapping, that’ll make you a fan. Rooms are bright, modern and supremely comfortable, there’s a heated swimming pool, and (our favourite) an outdoor living room complete with crackling fire pits. Add in a fitness centre – perfect for offsetting the inevitable best-ever meals in the local area – and you’re all set for wonderful San Fran stay.

We decided to select this hotel for our one night in San Francisco on our California honeymoon. I have been a Marriot member for quite some time and was surprised when I showed up and it was no longer part of the hotel group. We never received notice of the ownership change and honestly we would have chose a different hotel if we knew it changed ownership. Check-in was smooth and the front desk staff were very helpful. We even got an upgraded room to an upper level because the lower levels tend to be noisy with traffic outside. Everything was great until 10:00PM when a staff member knocked on our door saying there was a problem with the credit card we had on file. Considering we had a flight the next morning at 5:00AM this was not appreciated in the slightest. I went down to the front desk to fix this supposed situation only to find the front desk members confused as to why there would be an issue-our room was paid in full months ago. Evidently the manager sent this employee around knocking at multiple peoples doors who had this “reservation problem.” We really did not understand why the hotel would send this employee around at 10PM when this could have been addressed at check-in or check-out. There also seemed to be additional problems with the key card access for multiple guests as there was a line of people waiting at the front desk at 10:00PM. Parking in the area is expensive and from the brief time we were there we were warned multiple times about break-ins in the area. We opted to choose the valet parking which was $75 for the night. Room was nicely appointed but the walls are thin. Read less

Marriott did nothing to notify me that the hotel has been sold and is no longer a Marriott branded Sheraton Hotel. Zero communication. I hope that Marriott some followup. Surely they have a playbook they use when hotels are sold? I'm not willing to stay at a hotel the does not provide me with points.

This hotel has a great location. Walking distance to the Pier and great restaurants. The staff was great, the room was comfortable. They have fire pits outside which are wonderful. Nice to enjoy an evening cocktail or your morning coffee. I am giving it 3 stars for 3 reasons. 1. The parking was super expensive ($ 62 for 24 hours). 2. The… Read more

Nice to enjoy an evening cocktail or your morning coffee. I am giving it 3 stars for 3 reasons. 1. The parking was super expensive ($ 62 for 24 hours). 2. The buffet breakfast also expensive ($ 35 pp), nothing special and not worth it. 3. The bathroom was so small! There is a separate room for the toilet / bathtub-shower. The swing of the door just passes the tub. You practically need to climb over the toilet to close the door. Sheraton may want to consider installing pocket doors. Read less

We stayed 2 nights. We were able to walk most everywhere-Pier 39, Ghiredelli Square, and fishermans wharf. Hotel was great-great location, great staff and comfortable rooms. I stayed here 10 years ago and it was still just a good as it was then.

We stayed here in late September prior to a cruise. The hotel is well situated for Fishermans Wharf and a number of the other major attractions in the city, the hop on hop off bus starts just round the corner as does the cable car. It is also easy to walk to local restaurants and shops. We were room only for two nights in a ground floor room that was well appointed and quiet. The hotel was generally busy all of the time. Our room had been pre booked and paid for by our UK travel agent and at check out reception confirmed there was nothing outstanding to pay. However 4 days later my credit card that had been swiped for 'security deposit' at check in was charged over $700. When challenged by our agent it appears that as a result of Thomas Cook collapse the hotel decided to take the money from me rather than wait until the UK agent paid up. I am still waiting for the money to be credited back into my account. Be warned. Read less
