The hotel

As seen on screen in the classic Hitchcock thriller Vertigo, this hotel’s a piece of cinematic history. Rightly proud of its ‘supporting role’, you can catch the movie playing on loop in the lobby as you enjoy complimentary tea and coffee each morning, before stepping out to explore your Nob Hill neighbourhood. Just blocks from Union Square, you can amble to many San Francisco must-sees from Hotel Vertigo – although, rather aptly, you may get giddy from all the dizzying hills. Alongside essentials like your flat screen TV and complimentary WiFi, each marmalade-tinted room’s decked out with playful additions like vivid orange wingback chairs, quirky horse-head lamps, and artwork inspired by the spiralling vortexes in the film’s posters. Regardless which floor you’re on, head skywards for a mesmeric view down the hotel’s monochromatic corkscrewing staircase – if you’ve got a head for heights.

A really great hotel, had a corner room with enough Space. Nice shower and bathroom (for one person). Clean room everyday top. Shame that the „free bottle“ of water starts to cost during the week (2 $). It has a bathrobe but no „outside“ possibility to use. Fitnessroom is okay (small but okay) has a small kitchen for the morning in the lobby,… Read more

Shame that the „free bottle“ of water starts to cost during the week (2 $). It has a bathrobe but no „outside“ possibility to use. Fitnessroom is okay (small but okay) has a small kitchen for the morning in the lobby, vending machine, ATM. Nice lobby to seat. Front desk staff really very friendly. Helps when they can gave me late check out to 1pm what is okay. No Minibar but a mini fridge. It‘s 10.-15 walk to the most „nice places“ to go - for me to the Moscone Center only by bus or uber / taxi. I can recommend this hotel and will come again when I‘m in SF Ps: has a heater in the room. Disappointed. The website states 'begin each morning with coffee & tea service hosted daily in our lobby'. There is the skeleton of a cafe but when I asked about it I was told it doesn't open any more - no explanation, no apology. 'Complimentary morning newspaper' never appeared. 'Business center in the lobby' is one PC, printer and chair. I made… Read more
Disappointed. I made a point of emailing before I visited to ask if cards for deposit payments are just authorised or if payment would actually be taken then refunded - they confirmed payment wouldn't be taken but when I checked out, big shocker, the funds had been taken from my card so I'm now waiting for the refund. My room was clean and the size I expected but not the standard - see pics for unsightly wiring/trunking and an exposed threshold into the walk in wardrobe/safe area which is pretty painful to step on/stub your toe on. Dark lower wall and carpet colours make it feel dingy and dull. The heating system is awful - unit build into the wall which can be set on 'fan' or 'heat' ... and there's no middle ground for either so the room was cold and then after 10mins set on 'heat' it's stifling. Only 2 or 3 of the channels on the TV consistently received signal, the others repeatedly dropped out. Don't know if you'd class it as a motel but it's definitely not a hotel. Location wise if you're a tourist I'd recommend being in the Fisherman's Wharf area instead (unless your budget allows for a Union Square hotel) Read less

Hotel Vertigo is in a fun location near downtown and although I was only there for one night the room was clean and well furnished and the concierge/staff were very helpful. Also got a kick out of the Vertigo film-themed decor in the room and the lobby.

It was a very short stay, really just s place to sleep. Hotel was great. Fitness center was underwhelming and didn’t have much room to move in. Also, parking is $25/night so that was a bit frustrating.

We were very early for check in at this hotel as we were coming off a cruise ship. We had been the day before and asked whether it would be possible and a note was made. Thankfully on arrival our rooms were ready. This was really appreciated, as it meant we could check in and continue looking around San Francisco. The staff behind the desk were all really helpful and friendly and very informative. Our room was really large and all clean and tidy, with a lovely bathroom and overhead shower. Good amount of toiletries and towels, clean and fresh. They also organised a taxi for us to take us to the airport for a set $50, which between 4 of us, worked out really well. Thank you for all that you did for us, if we are ever back in San Francisco, we will definitely come back to this hotel Read less
