Excellent hotel near Embarcadero. Clean, upscale atmosphere. No traffic noise at night. Slept well. Friendly staff who go above and beyond. Coffee and tea service available in the lobby early in the morning is very convenient. Would absolutely stay here again.

Would definitely recommend the spaghetti. I know it sounds basic, but it's not. I received excellent service. Special shout-out to Dennis, Anna, and Steven who went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. Also, my waitress was excellent (at dinner) but I didn't get her name. It was my first time staying, and I'll be back. Read less

The location close to the ferry station and with views over the water as being in the heart of the financial district is the greatest asset for this hotel. However the room I stayed in had the feel of a Marriott from the end of the last century. The shower over the bath tub with the plastic curtain and the low, but acceptable water pressure was very retro, but not in a good way. The facilities in the room were adequate for a business trip. Having a room on second floor on the side of the hotel there was little natural light so the room was never very bright. There is a reasonable amount of artificial lighting in the room. The bed was comfortable, but again resembled what you would have expected from a hotel room ten or twenty years ago. The blue tooth Bose system is a nice touch, though looks as if it was put in some time ago, with the blue tooth receiver being a separate addition. The app to operate the television was a good asset giving a full TV programme guide. When I checked in the staff were friendly but had no record of the credit card that had been given by the travel agent and therefore I had to provide my personal credit card and was charged a higher room rate than had been agreed. The room service staff take a break around 6.30pm so when I phoned down for service it went through to an answer phone where it was not possible to leave a message. When I phoned the reception they explained about the break and said that they would pass on my order to room service. When I phoned down an hour later to ask where my order was it turned out that the message had not been passed on. In fairness to the hotel they did they rush my order through and did not charge me for it. However if the staff are going to have a break (at what is probably a peak time for room service) then surely they can arrange for someone to cover the phone at the time. The room service menu is limited and certainly could have better and more appetising choices. Breakfast is served in the restaurant on the ground floor. There is a good range of choices and the service is friendly and efficient. As others have remarked on the outside facilities are oversold and definitely look tired and in need of love and attention. When I stayed the hotel was clearly busy and therefore it could be that this has led to some complacency. A great location for where I needed to be but at the price paid I would not say it was good value for money or reflects what you should expect from a good business hotel. Read less

I was informed when I booked the reservation that there was an indoor pool at the hotel. Much to my surprise, come to find out there is no pool at all when I checked in. This was the only reason I booked The Hotel Vitale because I was traveling with kids and having a pool was very important.
