Hotel Zeppelin San Francisco

San Francisco, USA

The hotel

A salute to San Francisco’s cheeky nonconformist soul, Hotel Zeppelin has taken its historic shell and turned it into something completely contemporary. The result’s certainly worthy of its home in one of America’s most playful, cool, and bohemian cities. A monochrome backdrop plays host to splashes of deep plum and scarlet. Its guest rooms offer daring design and modern touches like complimentary WiFi. Its penthouse fitness centre flaunts city views. And its street-level Zeppelin Café unites rustic brick and sleek modern fixtures, making it a fashionable stopgap for coffee and pastries. Reflective of its fashionable setting near Union Square, its amenities and spaces are on-trend, from its partnership with cool Concierge providers Scout, who take care of your every whim, to its Peace Room, featuring a cartoon-covered ceiling, quick shot basketball wall, and oversized bingo board.

There is an an alternative vibe to the hotel (musicians and skateboarders - however this hides the very basic facilities. Rooms are small with fridges that don't work, bathrooms are cramped and then there is the noise - especially if you are at the back of the hotel - industrial generators purring all night long. Breakfast is a joke - avoid it if you can - the staff (apart from 1 in the 5 days I was there) are awkward and unpleasant. The only saving grace was a couple of reception staff that were a bit more switched and went beyond to help us during our stay. We looked up staying on after our business trip but at $600 a night its was a definite no. Read less

The hotel and staff are great. I enjoyed my stay there and felt safe overall. The beds are a little firm for my liking, but the pillows were nice. I would stay here again in the future. The Rambler is great for breakfast!

We were given a room with broken air conditioning, and the room was 80 degrees. Room 615 I believe. The staff told us we needed to move rooms, and brought us a key to Room 505, and told us this new room would be “great.” That room didn't have air conditioning either, 80 degrees again. The staff told us we needed to move rooms, and brought us a key to Room 505, and told us this new room would be “great.” That room didn't have air conditioning either, 80 degrees again. So, we were told we needed to move rooms again, and then about 30 minutes later a random worker showed up and handed me a room key without a word. No offer to assist with our luggage, since this would be our 2nd move, no offer to show us where the new room was located—no guidance whatsoever. Just handed us a key and disappeared. Right before the key showed up, the front desk clerk I called to ask about the hold-up was very curt, rude and I guess annoyed we had chosen his hotel out of the hundreds of others we could have (and should have) picked. We felt like a big inconvenience to the sullen hotel staff, especially when no one checked to see if our 3rd room was acceptable (it was smaller). No one even came close to apologizing to us for forcing my son and I to sit in 2 different 80-degree rooms all afternoon, unpacking and re-packing and hauling our luggage all over the ugly hotel. Waiting on the 3rd room also made us miss the first part of the concert we were in town for, so that was just icing on the cake thanks to a poorly-run Class D hotel. The front desk clerk even had the nerve to tell me that my son and I "got what we paid for" as we left the next morning, so the hotel charges $323+ for a hot box room, eye-rolls and attitude from the staff. I think my stay at Hotel Zeppelin was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. Read less

When we approached the desk Anthony warmly welcomed us and offered us a complimentary cocktail and while efficiently checking us in, informing wonderful hotel amenities. The room was clean, great water pressure and comfortable bed. Every time we called the front desk (ice, glasses, etc) they were at our room within minutes. The game room made our night. What a blast. Hotel Zeppelin is my go to hotel every time I visit San Francisco! Read less

I liked the hotel and overall had a good stay. There is a really great vibe around the place with some pretty cool decor. Both bars were relaxed and a great place to hang out The Rambler Bar had a great atmosphere early evening and the breakfast was spot on, the staff very friendly (Aiden was especially helpful) and the music was excellent. The only downside, the bar shuts early and two nights running we couldn’t get a drink after 10pm which was a surprise (although there was a bar up the road, 1 minute walk away) The rooms are spacious, clean and nicely decorated, although the TV kept freezing which was a pain, especially when the jet lag kicked in and I wanted something to watch in the early hours. The location means it is a little noisy throughout the night, I guess that’s the joys of staying in the City and being quite central! Read less
