Hotel Zeppelin San Francisco

San Francisco, USA

The hotel

A salute to San Francisco’s cheeky nonconformist soul, Hotel Zeppelin has taken its historic shell and turned it into something completely contemporary. The result’s certainly worthy of its home in one of America’s most playful, cool, and bohemian cities. A monochrome backdrop plays host to splashes of deep plum and scarlet. Its guest rooms offer daring design and modern touches like complimentary WiFi. Its penthouse fitness centre flaunts city views. And its street-level Zeppelin Café unites rustic brick and sleek modern fixtures, making it a fashionable stopgap for coffee and pastries. Reflective of its fashionable setting near Union Square, its amenities and spaces are on-trend, from its partnership with cool Concierge providers Scout, who take care of your every whim, to its Peace Room, featuring a cartoon-covered ceiling, quick shot basketball wall, and oversized bingo board.

Air conditioning, bathroom layout, and electronics in room like plugs and night stand clock very poor or non functioning. I would not recommend this room and would not stay here again. Was much better when known as Prescott and before remodel.

This hotel looks great in the official photos and presents itself as clean and new but the reality is a little more gritty and dirty. My room had creaky floorboards underneath the faded carpet, and cracked paint and chipped plaster on the walls and baseboards. It also had a smell of mold (common in older San Francisco buildings) with visible water damage on the ceiling. It feels like the hotel was given a fresh coat of paint many years ago but it wasn’t a proper renovation job. Definitely not a luxury hotel. Zeppelin also skimps on amenities: there’s no mini-bar in the room, no overnight room service, and food delivery is just served in takeout containers from the restaurant downstairs (no plates or cutlery). I asked for some basic supplies like toothbrush and Advil and was told they didn’t carry any items like that for guests. I would say all of this is about average for hotels in San Francisco, especially near Union Square. Read less

The hotel bar makes tasty cocktails and the hotel restaurant serves a delicious breakfast. Location is central to downtown area although there was quite a bit of noise outside the hotel at night the night we stayed. Overall, I would recommend staying here if you are looking for something fun but comfortable. Read less

Room condition was poor. Broken hardware and dirty floors at arrival. Fees are not clearly listed. Game room was also in poor condition. Missing game pieces, broken furniture and overall not well kept and maintained.

There is a really nice small bar a couple of doors up from Hotel Zeppelin, so we didn't really have to walk around too much at night, which we appreciated. The hotel is a little older, but they have quirked it up with cool decor and comfortable fittings, as well as a Nespresso coffee machine. The service was lovely, including a drink of Sangria on arrival. The restaurant attached to the hotel is pretty good. We had breakfast there once and this was nice. We decided against dinner as the menu was a bit limited. We like fresh air, so we appreciated that the windows open a little bit, as this meant we could have the air con off and still breath. We didn't find this too noisy, even though this hotel is in the thick of it. We're really glad we stayed here! Read less
