Someone else chose this hotel for our weekend stay and though I initially balked at the price I had a lovely experience. Pros: - I've seen San Francisco a few times and it was nice to be immersed in a slower, quieter pace of Sausalito and enjoy the atmosphere and nature. - Convenient hike to view the Golden Gate bridge, a little steep at times but was a nice workout - Location was just lovely - The newer rooms were well appointed and luxurious - Cute gift shop with a great selection - Nice breakfast buffet selection - Great restaurant service. They let us hang out and have tea in the restaurant until 11PM. - Available luxury loaner cars - Dog-friendly, always a win in my column Cons: - Not a fan of tub showers in general so this is a personal preference - For those who might have issues walking, the newer rooms are on a hilly terrain though there are carts that will shuttle you to and from different spots on the property, I personally enjoyed scaling the hills - A bit expensive but I feel I got what I paid for I love the feel of the property, the openness and quaintness. I don't think I would stay here for longer than a weekend as it's a hike from San Francisco and a car is probably needed because of the location in order to see anything farther than Sausalito, but for a weekend getaway this is a great stay. We had considered Cavallo Point for our Sausalito getaway, but decided on another hotel. I am so glad we did. We stopped to look around Cavallo Point while in the area. The location is beautiful - green parade grounds, rocking chairs on the porch. When we inquired about a late afternoon lite meal, however, the restaurant hostess was so off-putting that she created a negative feeling about the entire location. She was, unfortunately, rude to everyone who approached her, declaring no tables were available for over 45 minutes (when multiple tables were available inside and on the porch), not offering to add anyone to the list, seating no one from the waiting list, glaring at anyone who asked her a question - that we left. Perhaps our experience was due to bad timing. However, I will continue to choose to stay in town where restaurants, shops, and cafes are within walking distance. Read less

Cavallo Point occupies the former Fort Baker, and many of the rooms are former quarters of the soldiers; however do not let that fool you in to thinking they are not plush accommodations! Cavallo Point occupies the former Fort Baker, and many of the rooms are former quarters of the soldiers; however do not let that fool you in to thinking they are not plush accommodations! Our room was plenty large enough for the 2 of us, and had a nice large bathroom as well as a very large walk in closet. The building we were in was divided into 4 separate rooms, of which I think all were occupied during the time we were there, but it was still just silent at night, which was amazing! There was a card in the room which did warn of the potential of a fog horn on foggy nights, but it was clear during our stay. The property was very large, with a very large grassy area in the middle--I imagine this was the old drill grounds--where many of the guests with dogs were playing with their pooches in the day. We had a great view of the North tower of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Presidio and North Beach districts of the city. Cavallo Point is also right next to the Bay Area Discovery Museum, which is an interactive museum for kids big and small. The bar and restaurant, Farley's and Murray Circle, were both very good and staffed by people who exceptionally good at what they do, but treat you like your their friend visiting their home. In all honesty, Cavallo Point offers one of the most relaxing Bay Area retreats one could hope to find, and there is little reason to leave the property if one did not want to. Read less

This was a gorgeous location! We were able to check in early which was amazing. However, we should have been informed that the restaurant/bar had a limited menu (no oven or grill). We found out from another guest in the spa. We had been looking forward to a meal there after reading all the reviews. Not wanting to go into town in the rain, the lighter menu seemed okay for us. Unfortunately, The Farley Bar was very disorganized with poor and slow service. We had to ask multiple time for a server. When we did get our crab salad and half charcuterie it was thrown together and looked nothing like pictures we had seen on Yelp. No one checked back with us to see if we wanted anything else. I can blame it on the blood moon...I guess! We had a charming room and a wonderful relaxing experience in the beautiful spa. I would go back after the restaurant is up and running! Read less

Stayed for a few days for Christmas 2018 for a local holiday getaway with the family. While the location and the grounds are fantastic, I would have to suggest that the rest (read "service") was extremely nominal, especially given the rate that you pay for the rooms. They boast of being dog-friendly (which they are), however the dog bowl and bed as indicated were not in the rooms when they knew we were bringing dogs, the room was supposed to be available early (via AmEx) but they were not ready until almost 5 PM, there was no room service on the 2nd day until we called, the staff at the restaurant were great but the service was honestly terrible (we had to wait 1/2 hour for drinks and then another 45 minutes for the food to arrive while others who came in after us were already being served (whoops)), since we were there for 3 days I tried most of the items on the limited menu and even the food was just nominal (not much flavor), they "accidentally" checked me out of my room early so had to get let back in to get my items, we were informed that we could use one of the complimentary Lexus' (which is nice) however only to be informed that they had made a mistake and that we could not (no explanation given and I don't recall them even saying "sorry"), one of the rooms we had had a backroom with queen (not "king") bed - the door jams were not sealed so the cold air and light from the patio came through all night, cobwebs in the lighting fixtures, had to call engineering to open the safe that I had put some items in because it was not working properly, and all that to top it off..went to check out and they got the bill wrong. Sorry for all the negativity but as indicated - stay for the grounds and view of the city but not the service. For the price this place really needs to step up. Read less
