This is my second stay at Cavallo Point and first time this time of year. The weather was lovely when we arrived and busy on a Sunday with the brunch crowd. A room was not available. We had a spa appt and dinner reservations so asked if we could please be placed soon in our room. The gentleman who first checked us in gave us an option for speed, room with no Golden Gate view, we agreed not a problem. He said he would call with an ETA. We headed to a nice lunch, able to sit outside. The server was busy yet took care of us very well. No word from the front desk after our lunch as promised. We go back in and a women takes care of us immediately. We get a room ready with a gate view. This is slightly irritating yet understandable. We get to our room. The valet leaves a backpack with us that was not ours. We realize since we ourselves have 4 bags already and call. He arrived and literally blames us for not checking our bags. Isn’t that his job too? No water in the room accept one small jug. The spa experience was very nice even though packed, no way to enjoy the facilities, the locker room was too small for the amount of women. The cost for all services are high yet it is San Francisco. The time of year matters because it gets very foggy on the bay and when we checked in no one told us of the relentless Foghorn that will blow every 5 minutes in the middle of night. No one told us there were ear plugs in the room. And the next day with no sleep someone literally told me that is part of the ambience. Really? Next time maybe let your guests know. The next night we were prepared. The breakfast experience was odd. The servers even though it was not busy we’re not able to approach our table for 10 minutes and to get a coffee to go was like speaking a foreign language. Needless to say will not recommend staying here. Not bad for a visit not worth the value due to service. Read less

Fabulous hotel and grounds. Service was excellent including golf cart transportation to and from our room which was important since my husband has difficulty walking. They even came to pick us up when we walked down to the marina. Food was wonderful, good variety including Vegan for our friends. Thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful setting.

We stayed at The Cavallo Point Lodge last weekend for two nights, this being the hotel stay which ended our month’s holiday in Canada and the U.S.A. Our trip involved staying in ten hotels from the Fairmont Waterfront in Vancouver to Carmel Valley Ranch ( all fabulous with superb accommodation and fantastic staff) but we were especially looking forward to staying at this historic hotel which was formerly Fort Baker. Sadly, unlike all of the other accommodations in our stay, we were hugely disappointed with this hotel. The advertising features lovely wooden lodges but don’t be fooled. Much of the accommodation is in concrete blocks at the back of the hotel which are less than impressive and nothing like the historical wooden lodges featured. And......five star this certainly was not. Our room was very large but had no view, air conditioning or ambience. We had to rely on opening a multitude of windows for any coolish air to circulate the room....and as there was no screening on some of these windows we could only do this when we were actually in the room. The surrounding landscape to the rear was scrubland and very unattractive. The built-in furniture in the bathroom was very scruffy and scraped and getting in and out of the bath required great care ......and a step! Certainly not what we expected from this standard of hotel. The concierge and porters were all absolutely charming. They welcomed us very warmly and responded to any requests for assistance with a smile. However, we encountered the only rude and unwelcoming receptionist in our entire stay who soured our whole experience. I am not going to name names or give a description but she was so sour faced, never smiled and lacked any kind of grace or friendliness towards us as paying clientele. The only thing I will say is that she was on duty on reception on the morning of Monday 14th October when we checked out. She completely spoiled our wonderful impression of the hotel staff we had encountered throughout our month’s stay in North America. It was so disappointing to end our holiday in this way. She certainly demonstrated NONE of the manners and charm which we had received from hotel staff in every other element of our trip. I would ordinarily never leave a review like this on Trip Advisor but unlike all of the other hotels, Cavallo Lodge does not invite feedback from clients through an online survey. As this hotel was booked for us by our travel agent I have no idea what we paid but the prices online are unbelievable for the quality of the accommodation in which we were placed. There is maybe huge variability in the standard of the rooms and we, on this occasion, drew the short straw but buyer beware! I am sorry to have to record this negative review but we truly felt we had to provide honest feedback to the hotel...and to any prospective clients. Read less

My husband Drew and I had just the most magical stay after our wedding. We stayed in a contemporary suite with a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge for two nights. On our first morning we woke up and had some complimentary coffee and pastries at the reception and then wandered to the front lobby where the bellmen reside and asked if any of their Lexus’ were available to drive for a few hours. The bellmen were very friendly, as they always are, and we were incredibly lucky because one of the Lexus’ was available. We decided to go for a hike in Fairfax and then went to Marinitas in San Anselmo. It was the most relaxing day and we absolutely enjoyed. Every time I’ve stayed at Cavallo Point, I’ve said to myself, “what an amazing property” but after this stay, I have to say Cavallo Point is much more than that. It is a place of healing, a place of genuine beauty, a place that comforts the soul and a place where only kind people work. I can’t say enough positive things about Cavallo Point and the team there. Cavallo Point is a dream, a must stay. Read less
