Beautiful National Park Service setting. People playing with their dogs in the huge center lawn. Walking distance to Golden Gate Bridge and overlook trails. We reserved in a 'contemporary' building but were upgraded to a 3rd floor unit in the historic buildings which were snug and modern inside. We used the hotel as a base for nearby events,… Read more
Beautiful National Park Service setting. People playing with their dogs in the huge center lawn. Walking distance to Golden Gate Bridge and overlook trails. We reserved in a 'contemporary' building but were upgraded to a 3rd floor unit in the historic buildings which were snug and modern inside. We used the hotel as a base for nearby events, but likely would enjoy staying there again as a destination and sampling the onsite restaurants. An additional fun note is that the hotel is located where Starfleet Headquarters (in the fictional Star Trek universe) is. Read less

The views from this property are almost too good to believe. Because of where it is situated, you get a unique angle of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. There's a bluff you can walk to where you can peer out and see Alcatraz to your left, the skyline of San Francisco in front of you, and the GG Bridge on your right. Beautiful.

The setting is magical- the cottages and houses on the grounds were spacious and cozy with fireplaces. Some had incredible views of the city or the Golden Gate Bridge. The food and dining options and bar were wonderful and varied. But most of all the people who worked there- the friendliest, most accommodating, gracious, and jus plain nice- impressed us the most. A WOW in all ways. Location wise- we spent one day wine tasting in NAPA, and one day exploring Sausalito and Marin County. A perfect place for a family Thanksgiving!!! Beautiful in Fall!!! Read less

I’ve stayed in various rooms over the years, for a girls’ night, romantic getaway, family time, and more. Here are my thoughts: the historic rooms are charming and lovely, but they are noisier than the contemporary rooms. The walls aren’t as thick and the front doors slam and make noise and the windows rattle a little. But they tend to be closer to the spa and the restaurants if accessibility is an issue. Most of the historic rooms have city views rather than the bridge view. There is a historic room with several connecting rooms for big families – my relatives stayed there and loved it. The contemporary rooms are sleek and minimalist and so comfortable. The suites are worth the price if you are coming for a special occasion – fantastic bathtub and view. The bath products are divine, made with organic lavender. You can bike, walk, hike, spa or just sit on the porch and read. The room service is fantastic: always hot and great value for room service in terms of price. The management in general is responsive and friendly while professional. The morning coffee and pastries in the main lodge are such a great touch and they have a wine happy hour every evening as well; such a great way to sit on the porch and enjoy the view. They have a shuttle to the city (they use Lexus cars) so you can enjoy the city but come back to a more tranquil spot. Great place for kids: The Discovery Museum is a 1 minute walk and the parade grounds in nice weather is like a giant play area: fly a kite, picnic, do cartwheels. And then you can get to Muir Woods easily and other kid-friendly “stuff.” The spa is outstanding but does get busy on weekends so book ahead or try for early appointments. If you want a specific room type it’s good to call the reservation line directly because they can help you pick the right room ahead of time, rather than trying to explain what you want when you check in. What a great place! Beautiful location, great room and the best service. It’s like being at home, only better. Great breakfast at McMurray’s. Just up for the weekend but we’ll definitely be back for a longer stay.
