Cavallo Point on the Marin Headlands is a tucked away little gem. Like the land that time forgot, it has quaint housing, excellent food and friendly staff. The surroundings were lush and beautiful; fun hikes and bike rides everywhere. Views of the Golden Gate Bridge right outside the door. Highly recommend!

My wife and I booked a room for one night and made reservations for outdoor dinner at the Farley Bar. We had wonderful experiences at the Farley Bar and Murray Circle restaurant before, and thought it would be nice to spend a night. We were greeted by friendly, efficient staff and offered a glass of wine. Sitting on the deck in the rocking chairs, sipping wine and enjoying the view of the Bay and Golden Gate was lovely—a high point. We checked into our room in the historic section and were disappointed. We knew we did not pick a room with a spacious view, but did not think that at a $500 price point we would have a view of the parking area behind the room out a small bedroom window. There was a Spartan seating area with a limited view of the parade grounds. The room was small, not wide enough for two nightstands. It was clean and well appointed. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom, while large, was basic. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Farley’s. Our waiter was great, the outdoor seating comfortable, and the food excellent. The fog horns provided a unique experience! We think those wishing to experience Cavallo Point would have better value by booking a room in Sausalito, and coming to Cavallo Point to enjoy the amenities and dine at Farley’s. Read less

My second time here - and to my own surprise I loved my historic room as much as my contemporary room the first time. Many wonderful touches such as huge bath, filtered bottled water, Lavazza espresso machine, front porch, unique lighting and furniture, great toiletries. Many wonderful touches such as huge bath, filtered bottled water, Lavazza espresso machine, front porch, unique lighting and furniture, great toiletries. I HIGHLY recommend hiking up to the bridge, and from there to some of the fantastic hiking trails overlooking Marin and SF. Breakfast (outdoors at the moment) was DELICIOUS. And one of the coolest hotel amenities EVER - the front desk will hand over the keys to a $100K Lexus sports car for a few hours. Read less

Management needs to step it up for this hotel. I don't understand why they get such great reviews! I stayed here for an anniversary weekend and was disappointed in the service and staff. There was only one staff member, a bellman, who was gracious and made me feel welcome and seemed to enjoy working there. Overall, staff were disorganized and frazzled. With no room service or maid service, it was a little rough and they will tell you it's for safety and to save lives, but that is ridiculous! I had asked for extra items such as coffee pods, drinking glasses, and water to be brought to my room and was visited by four different staff members knocking on my door who didn't know what the others were doing. Most of the staff were grumpy and didn't smile much. Management needs to have a daily meeting to get this group up to speed. Many employees were disheveled, with rumpled clothes and unkempt hair. I will not be returning to Cavallo Point. Read less
