Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco

So Ma District, San Francisco

The hotel

Grown up but young at heart, at the Four Seasons all ages get a warm welcome. There’s milk and cookies on arrival for the kids, along with treats like a DVD library, summer playroom, and toy wagon. But it’s not all about them — you can nip off to Equinox Sports Club, for a workout in the gym, a swim in the lap pool or even a spa treatment. Enjoy great views of the city from many parts of the hotel — your guestroom may overlook Yerba Buena Gardens or look out across the city. And the wall of windows at MKT Restaurant – Bar give views of Market Street. Why not pop in for a signature cocktail (they’re really quite inspired), and perhaps a local dish or two from the sustainable menu.

Have just returned from a two-night stay at the Four Seasons San Francisco, following numerous previous stays at the property. The hotel impressed even more this time: rooms have been tastefully refreshed in brighter colours, everything worked perfectly, and small touches (such as Nespresso machines in the bedrooms) make staying at the property all the more pleasurable. Staff were excellent. The attached gym is outstanding. Despite all this, the stay was marred by the increasing blight on leaving the hotel. The number of drug addicts, homeless, and mentally disturbed people in the vicinity is just shocking. The situation gets worse every year. As an example, the concierge recommended to me an Italian restaurant within a 10 minute walk. The restaurant was exactly what I was seeking, so credit to the concierge for that, but there were addicts who had overdosed literally on the steps of the restaurant. The short walk there and back was extremely unpleasant. I mention this not as a criticism of the Four Seasons (although their marketing of the luxury residential block on 3rd St, boasting that 'even your car has an elevator' looks crass and insensitive in the context of the homeless people lying under the hoarding). However, the City needs urgently to address these issues. Otherwise, both visitors and locals will increasingly avoid downtown for reasons of personal safety. Read less

Mr. Gillett did an amazing job in checking us in, thank you!! The room and little touches are very nice and appreciated. I have maintained that the true test of a "five-star experience" is how the establishment handles a bad situation, especially when it is not their fault. I was accompanied on this trip by my physician assistant and her husband - both attending a national meeting down the street at the Moscone Center. My wife and i are frequent flyers with the Four Seasons resorts so this was a no-brainer to stay here amongst the several hotels our meeting offered at a discounted rate - about 45% off the listed rate! For my Physician Assistant and her husband, however, this was a unique experience afforded by the meeting discount. Unfortunately, an oversight on her part, not the Hotels, resulted in no reservation for her at this hotel! The non-meeting price would be exorbitant for them. By the time i left my room and came down to offer to help, the gentlemen at check-in had secured a room for her and offered it at the meeting discount price, and he did it with aplomb. This is why I stay at the Four Seasons hotels! by the way, great hotel for all the other reasons why we love the Four Seasons including a nice spa, amazing gym! and some very nice hair salon women that adroitly colored my hair so my colleagues at the meeting mistakenly thought I hadn't aged. I’ve been meaning to post an overdue review for the Four Seasons San Francisco. As always, we had another pleasurable stay. We were here in late December 2018 for a holiday getaway and in August 2019 for an anniversary road trip. It’s one of my favorite Four Seasons, not only for the location and gym services, but for the personnel. I’d like to especially give a shoutout to James Muzika, who is the Front Office Manager. Although all of the front desk staff that we encounter are pleasant, Mr, Mizuka goes over and above the call of duty. Besides performing his duties with the utmost professionalism, he also takes the time to give us many personal recommendations, as well as always being welcoming. We had stopped at the SF Four Seasons to celebrate our 28th anniversary, as part of a road trip from San Diego to the Oregon border. It was a welcome respite from being on the road. Thanks to the front desk staff (and Mr, Mizuka) for making our anniversary stay there memorable! Read less

The hotel offers great views of the city's architectural gems, and the staff delivers outstanding service. There is a full service gym with a range of yoga and spin classes. Within a short walk, you will find the best shopping, theater, restaurants, museums and night life.
