I was there for 6 nights due to a business trip. I have stayed in hotels all over the world. Some were good and some where not so good. Out of all the ones I stayed in I would rank this in the bottom 10%. The room carpeting was very dirty with many stains. No air conditioning. To get any ventilation in the room you had to open the window into the corridor. You could hear intimately what was going on in other rooms that had their windows open. The bathroom was beyond small almost to the point of being unusable. Terrible for business travelers, there is no desk. The only redeeming qualities was that it was close to the Moscone Center and the breakfast was okay. Read less

Clean enough. But this hotel is not in the "nice" area of Union Square. You'll deal with street people on the way in, and road noise when you try to sleep. The service is fine, but not outstanding. Convenient enough location if you're traveling for work and need to be near downtown.

My flight from NYC was delayed by 5 hours so I ended up arriving at the Tilden in the wee hours. Despite the check-in cutoff of 2am, when I called ahead to let the hotel know I was arriving at 3am, the front desk was gracious and accommodating — exactly the reception I needed after a stressful flight!

Lovely clean and tidy room, with a mini fridge. Staff very friendly. No air con, but fan works great. Window opens in bathroom. Homeless people everywhere, due to proximity of Glide Church. Best to uber/taxi direct to hotel at night.
