We stayed at the King George for 5 nights in Nov. It's conveniently placed near Union Square. The rooms are a decent size and have all the amenities you would expect. Very much worth considering if you want a central location at an affordable price.

I stayed 4 nights and I don't think I will come back to this hotel. Pro: 1. great location!! Union Square is literally around the corner. close to shops, supermarkets and restaurants. 2. friendly staff. Cons: it seems that the hotel was originally built long time ago (the info says early 1900s) and recently had superficial makeover (new wallpaper, new reception area and lounge) . It looked good on photos on booking.com. 1. Avoid a room near the elevator!! Initially I was given a room across the elevator. you could hear the old machine going up and down throughout the night and I couldn't sleep at all. Luckily the hotel was happy to change my room to another quieter area. but you still could hear some kind of machine running throughout day and night. 2. very dirty carpet you don't want to walk without shoes on. 3. cockrouch in bathroom. OMG. I hate them and I had to killed them myself!! 4. mold around the bathroom corners. 5. thin walls : you could hear next door having a shower!! also, whenever another guest opens their door, I thought they were smashing my door as the whole wall makes noise and moves at the same time. very scary 6. dirty bathroom : multiple hairs on bathroom wall and bathtub. 7. no refrigerator Read less

Ideal location, we were in walking distance to a lot of places and easy to walk to the powell- hyde cable cars which brought us down to further locations. My wife and I stayed here for four nights in October 2019. The hotel staff were very friendly upon arrival and quickly checked us in. The hotel is adorned in items from the United Kingdom (red telephone box in the lobby, Union Jack Pillows and so forth). The room consisted of a double bed (possibly king sized), a coffee machine (which uses pods but can dispense hot water only), a TV, desk, chair and drawers inside of which is a safe. In addition, there was a closet which had an ironing board, iron and an additional safe. The bathroom consisted of a bath with integrated shower, sink, dresser and obviously a toilet. Both rooms were on the small side but were big enough for two people. Temperature control consisted of a ceiling fan and a radiator. You could open the window slightly (maybe 2 – 3 inches) which helped but was also noisy. We found that by leaving the window open slightly during the day by the evening the room was cool enough to be comfortable. For reference, it was about 20 – 22 degrees Celsius with sun on the days we stayed. Wi-fi was available across the hotel including our room. Room service and maintenance requests are made via a tablet in the room which also gives you information about the area etc – we thought this was a good touch. There was free tea and coffee from 7 am – 10 am in the Lobby. Room service is available, but we never used it. The hotel in general can be described as quaint (and probably nearing time for an uplift) and served us well but it should be noted there is only one small lift that serves the entire hotel including the staff, so there can be a wait but there are stairs available. The hotels biggest selling point for us was its location. You are one block away from Union Square, a few from the Mason / Powell Cable Car, the BART, the Westfield Shopping Centre and a mass of other eateries and shops. Overall, we would stay again if in San Francisco. Read less

We frequently book mini getaways to downtown SF for special occasions. Of all of our trips and locations we’ve stayed at, we have never experienced such poor customer service and disregard for privacy and health. 1. I called the front desk when I spotted a pest (see pic below). She was apologetic but blatantly asked what I wanted her to do about it instead of having an established protocol. 2. Initially I was offered a pest control service where I would have to stand outside the room while chemicals were sprayed. Note: at this point I still wasn’t offered another room. 3. I declined that offer as I did not want to expose my husband and I’s respiratory tract and belongings to the pesticide. I then asked to be relocated. 4. She offered another room near the elevator where I was promised the noise of the old lift wouldn’t bother us. I declined as you can hear it down the hall. So she was clearly lying. 5. She asked, and I quote, “so what do you want?” And my response was I wanted a room without pests and not near an elevator. She said she would fine something, but I’m the meantime would send her associate to assist with baggage since my husband was away. She asked how much time I need to pack and I told her 15 min. 6. Not 10min passed and I heard a hard knock and housekeeping walking in ready to spray. I yelled I was changing and not ready to leave to which her response was “how long until you leave?!” And slammed the door. 7. 10 more min pass and I get another knock from a man asking for the current room keys before handing me the new ones. I start relocating my belongings to the door because I was told I’d have help and he just walked away. 8. The room we were moved to was supposed to be a suite but it was stifling and didn’t even have a refrigerator (but had 2 safes). I requested a refrigerator and was told it would come (no time range given). 9. We had reservations so I began to get ready which included taking a shower. I heard a door slam so I assumed it was my husband, but to my surprise the staff entered my room AGAIN unannounced this time while I was in the shower. 10. As we were checking out I mentioned my dissatisfaction again and was told the hotel fee ($25 I believe) was taken care of. Gee thanks. Because we were in a rush I couldn’t stay and argue as we prepaid the room online. We had booked 3nights/4days. Never. Ever. In my life have I experienced such horrible service. If there was even a shred of effort to rectify the situation I would not be here warning the public. Attached is the pest I discovered in the room. Zoom in to see the physical details of the roach.
