I appreciate a hotel that doesn't seem like a box or have a plain aesthetic dictated by corporate marketing schemes. This hotel met all my requirements for quirky: the elevator is set to a regal pace and small enough to make a smooch feel naughty if your partner enjoys that kind of thing; the bar area offers spacious fun during happy hours with a snooker table, dart boards, cocktails and chatting areas. The rooms farther back along each corridor are very quiet with homey touches like very soft blankets, plush robes (don't steal them!) and hand cranked windows that offer glimpses or the city. The outside noise is muffled slightly by blackout curtains but this place is best for those who can slumber with "city noise" lulling them to sleep. There were some quirks that show her age - our room featured a broken hook on the bathroom door and a window that would not close entirely - the radiator kept us warm enough but meant the loo was chilly. We had four people in our room but only two full sized towels and the sink would not warm up unless you ran the tub first. However, if you want a unique experience located central to everything, the King George is for you. Bonus: we were seeing a show at the Curran and the hotel is so close I could use the toilet in my room during the 20min intermission. King Thai just down the street is also delish! Read less

Nice room though elderly. I couldn't turn the heating off. On two evenings there was no hot water. It would be great to have a small fridge as I am very fond of cold water. Bath robes were super, I could open the window wide which was very helpful given the above. The desk seat was comfortable as was the bed.

In good location near BART Stn and Union Square with a good, straight climb up to Nob Hill to Grace Cathedral. Room was good for price point and was clean and comfortable. Two late night diners really close by for late nighters.

This is buy far the most favorite place for me and over the years of going to San Francisco I have stayed in a lot of hotels in the city. This is a piece of San Francisco history. The King George has some of the cleanest rooms and the nicest staff. Its location for the center of the city is just great and parking across the street is convenient.

We stayed at this hotel for four nights over New Years. When we checked in we were told we could wait for a higher room. Three hours later we were given a room on the 4th floor. When we complained we were told that was all they had. So much for a three hour wait. We were given drink coupons for the bar. We did not use them. The room was ok. It could use tlc, like cleaning spots on the rug. The bed was very comfortable. The bed was very high. The bathroom was clean, but did not have much counter space. We had no problem with the wifi. The elevator was not a problem except at check out time.. The best part of the hotel was the maid service. We would go out and come back in a couple hours and the room was cleaned. We prepaid the room and noticed those who did not got coupons for discount for food for places around the hotel We liked the location and would stay again here again, but I would not prepay and would not believe we get a high floor if we waited.
