The Maxwell

Seattle, Seattle & Washington State

The hotel

Some places just stand out from the crowd — and The Maxwell is one of them. It could be the décor, with the understated red brick façade jazzed up inside with touches like a giant mosaic pineapple, sunglass-worthy paint choices, children’s art tiles around the indoor pool, and funky furnishings, like bright magenta pod chairs paired with lime green tables. Not just bold on the surface, it buzzes with a vibrant spirit, serves ‘Afternoon Delights’ in the shape of pineapple cupcakes, delivers a cool casual menu at Pineapple Bistro & Bar, and rents out vivid yellow beach cruiser bikes – ideal for trips to nearby landmarks like Seattle Center and Space Needle.

I booked this for its location near the performing arts center for the Seattle Opera. Decent price (for Seattle) and close. When I checked in, my initial impression was "too self-consciously hip". Young guys in T-shirts and beards at the reception desk. Funky stuffed animal on the bed. If you stay there you'll know what I mean. But I came to appreciate its atmosphere as more fun-loving and light. I'm old and I quickly came to like its non-stuffy personality. Clean, comfy, with friendly people. Well-maintained, quiet, Safe neighborhood. Good bathroom with a spacious shower. Nice bed with clean comfortable linens. Mini-fridge. Keurig coffee/tea maker. Big TV that I didn't use. Lots of nearby eateries. Space Needle, Seattle Center and Opera/Ballet theaters very close. 1/2 mile to a Catholic Church (if that's your thing). So yeah. 5 stars. I'd stay there again. The one downside for me was that I was coming from the Sea-Tac airport without a car. So I took the light rail to the Westgate station. From there, it's 1.4 miles. Uber or walk, no problem. But unless you want to figure out the bus schedules, those are your public transport options. That's a non-issue for me, but it might be for some. Dont' forget to tip your housekeeper. She cleans your toilet. Read less

I have already expressed my concerns in detail with Alyssa. I have not yet heard back, as of 6 PM on May 22nd. I hope to hear from her soon. I like the property very much and have stayed in the past and I hope to stay in the future.

The accommodations here were great. Clean rooms, beautiful hotel. However, at check in my CC was accidentally charged for the gentlemen beside me's room. I had to contact my bank and was told it would be taken care of with 24-48hrs. I see they had the time to charge my card again for the correct amount the next day but now 4 days later I am still… Read more

No one seems to know anything about it and I was no offered anything for my inconvenience. Very disappointed in the overall customer service. :( Read less

Hotel Staff was very helpful Room was clean. No view from ours and could not get one since the Hotel was fully booked. Location was very very close to Space Needle and Park Bikes were great to be able to use. They could use bikes with gears since there are quite a few hills

We stayed here for a visit to Seattle recently and I booked based on the good deal I got on Expedia and the good location. The positives - the staff, Cierra in particular (not sure if that's spelt correctly) were extremely helpful and accommodating. The room was very comfortable and the bed was great. The negatives - 37$ per night + tax + tax for parking is absolutely extortionate and they tried to tack on another "amenity fee" for things like wifi and water of $28 per night. Ok parking charges in a city is fair enough, but the charge is on the very extreme side. But charging for basic services? Why not include that into your overall cost and stop luring people in with false advertising. An extra $100 for parking (including stupid taxes - why does north America insist on listing taxes separate? Just tell me the actual cost!!!!) And an amenity charge that would have been another $70 had we not complained. The staff member we dealt with was very nice and removed it with minimal fuss - which makes it seem that a lot of people complain about it - BECAUSE IT'S NOT ADVERTISED !!!! No amount of cool decor can compensate for guests feeling like they are being lied to and milked for extra cash in an already very expensive city. Read less
