This is the third time we have stayed at the Freestone and we absolutely love it. The customer service is outstanding, and the food at the restaurant is fantastic. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway surrounded by the beauty of nature with top notch amenities, this is your spot.

A partial list of what's wrong with this incredibly overpriced cabin: * The fireplace doesn't work, or no comprehensible instructions were provided (and this was a midwinter trip). * The kitchen sink doesn't work properly - it's outfitted only with a spray handle, which soaked several of us by surprise. * Some of the electrical sockets are dead,… Read more
A partial list of what's wrong with this incredibly overpriced cabin: * The fireplace doesn't work, or no comprehensible instructions were provided (and this was a midwinter trip). * The kitchen sink doesn't work properly - it's outfitted only with a spray handle, which soaked several of us by surprise. * Some of the electrical sockets are dead, as I discovered when my laptop battery ran down. * The 'hot water' is sort-of lukewarm at best (and again, this was a midwinter trip). * The 'TV' was audio-only. * One needs a bloodhound to locate a number of important light switches. * All of the information in the welcome binder is woefully out of date. * And then they have the nerve to ask the guests to do half of the cleaning for them. (I mean, stripping beds?) Read less

My guess is most people book into Freestone Inn during the summer for the hiking opportunities or the winter for cross-country skiing, (it is well equipped to host both). We went mid-week in November. We found it a lovely, quiet, get-away. Our room, opening out to the lawn and the lake, was luxurious and well appointed, clean and comfortable. … Read more

The North Cascades are beautiful, especially with the red, yellow and gold Autumn colors mixed into the Evergreen and snow-capped mountains. Unfortunately, at least during our trip, the Fall colors were viewed through a spectrum of rain, ranging from drizzle to downpour. It didn’t seem to bother the hikers in the area. On the Saturday we drove by the Rainy-Maple Pass trailheads, the parking lot was full and cars lined the side of the highway, parked bumper to bumper for at least a half-mile in each direction. I made reservations for a couple nights at the Freestone Inn, perfectly located close to that most popular trailhead, intending to attempt the Heather-Maple Pass Loop — which for me, not a particularly strong hiker, would have been challenging in perfect weather. I wasn’t confident enough to attempt it in the rain. Since we had already spent almost a week in the Mount Baker and western areas of the North Cascades, in the rain, and rain was predicted to continue, I emailed Freestone Inn to cancel the second night of our reservation (just in time for the 48-hour cancellation policy), and Patty replied right away that it wasn’t a problem. We stayed the first night as planned, and it was lovely! Truly one of the best bed and breakfast / small inns I have ever had the pleasure to experience. Besides being perfectly located close to many of the area’s best hikes, it sits on a beautiful property with a very picturesque lake right in the backyard. My photographer husband was happy to spend a good deal of time (even in the rain) outside photographing the lake from every angle. The lobby and dining room are so homey and inviting, and even though we arrived a little early, we were immediately greeted by Patty, who was so friendly and helpful throughout our short stay. Our guest room was warm and comfortable, and spotlessly clean, with a fireplace, a magnificent view of the lake, a soaking tub and separate shower, and big fluffy robes provided. Sliding glass doors open to a small patio on the edge of the great lawn, perfect to walk directly from room to lake, or to simply sit and enjoy a beer (available to take out and enjoy on the property from Jack’s Hut restaurant). The next morning, the included buffet breakfast was exceptionally good. Although the selection - eggs, bacon, fruit, breads and pastries, etc. was typical, everything was high quality and very, very tasty. I was happy enough to continue on to drier weather on the southern part of the Cascade Loop, but a little sad to leave this little gem of an inn. I’m almost certain we’ll be back, hopefully on a bright sunny day! Read less
