Such a shock when we went outside at this beautiful rooftop bar! Tables were dirty, French fries on the faux grass, the whole area was in disarray. It was not crowded and we reported it to the manager on staff. His reaction was, oh sorry. We were just looking for a quick drink before dinner down the street and literally felt so disappointed! It was not crowded and we reported it to the manager on staff. His reaction was, oh sorry. We were just looking for a quick drink before dinner down the street and literally felt so disappointed! It would have been gracious of him to offer us a glass of wine in another area of The Bohemian but he clearly didn’t care. Shame on you! Read less

We stayed five nights at the Grand Bohemian in October 2019. Overall the hotel is an adequate place to stay. However, the hotel lacks that something special and luxury feel. Here is some helpful information to help you decide about a future stay: Marriott Titanium Recognition - $8 voucher towards breakfast per person ($16 max) per day or continental breakfast for two (coffee, English muffin with butter and Jam). You will also receive a one time $10 food and beverage voucher. No room upgrade was given. Overall, poor recognition. Location - The hotel has a great locations in historic Charleston. Just a short walk to all major attractions. Customer Service - Everyone was extremely customer service oriented. A special thank you to Stephanie and Bonita at the rooftop restaurant. You made our breakfast extra special! Room - The room was larger in size. However, simple things like drawer space, adjustable shower head, a restroom fan were lacking. We also had several issues with the air conditioning that required us to change rooms. The second room had similar air conditioning issues. Hotel Bars and Restaurants - The hotel caters to the corporate world, holding special business events daily. For obvious reasons (poor bar/restaurant/rooftop design, bad happy hour, uncomfortable lobby furniture, no hotel entertainment, etc.), hotel guest are forced to leave the hotel to drink and eat. We recommend the Belmond Thoroughbred Club, The Vendue Drawing Room & Market Pavilion Rooftop for drinks. As for restaurant recommendations, we loved High Cotton, 225 Grill, & Henrietta’s (two were hotel restaurants). Maid Service - Daily Service was consistently late (after 4pm) and lacked attention to detail. For example, our room was never vacuumed in five days. We know this since we accidentally dropped bread crumbs the first day and they remained throughout. The Grand Bohemian Charleston is a newer hotel that misses the mark when it comes to luxury. In our option, it borders a 3/4 star hotel. If you’re a Marriott loyalist, this hotel will meet your needs for business. However, if you’re looking for a luxury hotel for a personal vacation or special occasion, this hotel has some work to do. Read less

Pete was our host for the wine making class, he is a third level sommelier. Pete is extremely well qualified, is personable, makes wine making fun, and not at all stuffy! The hotel is beautiful and the wine room was comfortable & quite lovely. Highly recommend this adventure.

We stayed here for 5 nights for our first visit to Charleston. This hotel (part of the Kessler Collection) is very unique and stylish. One of the unique features is a wine tasting room, offering a "wine blending" class. Peter, the sommelier, conducts the class and it was a lot of fun. Plus you get to blend your very own personal bottle to take home. If you enjoy wine, this is a very fun and unique experience. Also the rooftop restaurant and bar, Eleve, is a great place to eat and drink. While the hotel itself is very luxurious and special - it was really the staff there that we enjoyed the most. David at the front desk took great care of us checking in, and though our room wasn't ready upon arrival, he made sure we were comfortable and even tracked us down to personally deliver our keys to us. Michael at the Eleve bar was very nice and welcoming. We really enjoyed Emily and Stephanie in Eleve where we had breakfast each day. Both of them were fun to talk to, showed that they genuinely cared about the guests, and offered us a locals perspective on things to do and see in Charleston. Peter the sommelier was a blast - he's very entertaining and like the others, shows that he really loves what he does. My wife and I would seek out additional Kessler properties in our travels based on our experience here. And again, while the hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous, it was really the people that we encountered at the Grand Bohemian that made the trip to Charleston special and memorable for us. Thank you!
