My mom and I stayed at this hotel for two nights. I likely would not return. Check-in was awkward- I felt like I was being interrogated by the front desk girl. My bed was horribly uncomfortable and it wasn’t until the middle of the second night that I actually realized the bed was broken!! I’m not sure if it was the frame or the box spring but it kept me from sleeping and you could tell by looking at it that something was wrong. There was some dirt in the shower, and my mom insisted that there was mold in the bathroom. Our mini fridge seemed to defrost twice and left a huge puddle on the floor and water in the fridge. We called for extra pillows and the staff member that brought them was wearing his mask below his chin! This was extremely disturbing given that he came right up to our door, was in very close proximity to me, and was handling supplies that we had to use. The hotel was very loud both nights- a Sunday and Monday. We could hear multiple loud voices and running past 11:00, and doors slamming all night. We were also disappointed that the restaurant and bar were closed during our stay. The nicest part of our room was our private patio. It was lovely and had a view of the pool. Despite the inside of the hotel being loud, we never heard noise from the patio or pool area. The pool area looked nice though we never went there. Also, the valet guys were great and very helpful. The location was decent- about a mile walk to the main downtown area. We ate breakfast very close by at Big Bad Breakfast and highly recommend it. Read less

I am an optimist and I believe that when given the opportunity to do the right thing; people will. The breakfast hostess/waitress named Tammy is certainly a star! Her friendly, can do attitude made everyone else pale in comparison. The car valet staff were a group of really great guys, too, helpful and friendly! So, here’s the big BUT: the front desk clerk was uhm. . .not helpful. Yes, we are visiting during a global pandemic; yes, we realize many normal operations are different. Perhaps, if we had been told of this as we checked in we might have had a different experience. My companion went to the front desk three times to ask for items that we needed: soap, paper, pen, and towels. We stayed one night and decided that Charleston needed another day, so we told the clerk we would stay another night. After a long, very hot day of sightseeing we returned to a room (around 5 pm) that had not been serviced. We went down to the front desk to find out why and we were told that due to COVID rooms were to be serviced every FIVE days. WHAT? We didn’t have any clean towels, the dinky rubbish bins were overflowing, and remember we had to ask for soap. We asked for another room and were given one across the hall, but it too was lacking in a few essentials. At this point we were too tired and hot to care. Don’t you think this policy should be posted or announced during the check in process? This pandemic has been a huge inconvenience for everyone, yet the clerk’s attitude was barely one of hospitality. We had phoned ahead to ensure the hotel was open and this same clerk would not answer even basic questions. We should have gone elsewhere. Except for Tammy and the super-duper valets the hotel experience was a huge disappointment. We always stay at IHG properties and when we left Charleston we went to another IHG property in NC. A completely different and excellent experience was had there. (The photos were taken around 5 PM) Read less

We had an amazing week staying at Holiday Inn Charleston Historic Downtown! Everything was absolutely perfect in every way. Check in with Mo and Darrell was seamless, she was professional, courteous, informative and friendly. We checked in very fast.In the restaurant where we had breakfast every morning as part of our package , Tammy was FABULOUS! She remembered us and had our tea , OJ and cold milk ready every morning. Always greeted with a smile (even behind the mask) and when we asked for a special request without hesitation she said “I can make that happen “ Celestine was very accommodating in housekeeping, because of Covid 19 they do not clean your room daily to avoid coming into your room. She made sure we had clean towels , shampoo, soap etc. I always saw her cleaning somewhere in the hotel and the room was impeccably clean . Patricia I hope you know what a superior bunch of superstar staff you have. Overall would not stay anywhere else when visiting our daughter and son-in-law in Charleston. Hotel was great location and we loved the pool area too. Felt very safe and talk about best location you can easily walk to everything! View of bridge from room was nice too Read less

Everyone was professional without being stand-offish, warm and personal without hanging all over us. Room was crisp and clean, larger and with more amenities than we'd been expecting. Location was within easy walking distance of just about everywhere we wanted to go -- if my wife and I hadn't been recovering from illnesses we'd have done so; but… Read more

Location was within easy walking distance of just about everywhere we wanted to go -- if my wife and I hadn't been recovering from illnesses we'd have done so; but when we couldn't, valets either got us our vehicle within less than a minute, or called up one of the rickshaw bicyclists. Price was absolutely right too. When we asked for daily housekeeping there wasn't a moment's hesitation. All in all, if we could give it more than five stars, we would! Read less
