Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City, Utah

The hotel

Living up to its location, Hotel Monaco’s as dramatic inside as Salt Lake City is outside. Unapologetically decadent, and just on the right side of wild, its daring colours and patterns, plush furnishings, and complimentary Wine Hour welcome you back each night, whether you’ve been hitting the nearby slopes, hitting the free 24-hour gym, or just hitting the world-class shops and sights a stroll away. After the wine, you can slink off to The Vault – a den-style lounge with a creative cocktail list and bar menu. If you’re after something more substantial, Monaco Hotel’s Bambara restaurant mixes a casual bistro vibe with refined New American creations – all in the unique surrounds of an old Continental Bank lobby, complete with its historic arched windows.

This was a very elegant hotel with tasteful decor in both their public areas and private rooms. I especially appreciated their full size shower products! The staff were very friendly and responsive and the accommodations were roomy and comfortable (we got the majestic suite). We truly appreciated their pet-friendly policy. The meals were tastefully prepared (the homemade granola at breakfast was amazing and the chicken dinner fantastic) but I wish there was more heartier offerings for breakfast (like eggs or omelette). The gym had enough equipment and space for a decent workout including a peloton bike. Despite being pet friendly, there is no area around the hotel for your pet to potty. After all, you are in a city. You need to walk a bit before finding some grassy areas unless your pet is okay with going on the sidewalk and using lampposts! There are parks within 1/2 mile of hotel. Overall we enjoyed our 2-night stay. Travel Pup Reminder: please pick up after your pup(s) and keep them leashed while in public. Thank you. Read less

I stayed here on a points stay and there wasn’t anything really wrong with my stay...this is probably for those people who don’t expect a speck of dust in a room when they stay. So what was great about this hotel is the staff is very nice, there was an umbrella in the room for use and the look of the rooms was very 1930’s. However, the lamps are… Read more

So what was great about this hotel is the staff is very nice, there was an umbrella in the room for use and the look of the rooms was very 1930’s. However, the lamps are still old school turn the knobs, the shower head looks like it might be from then as well, and worst it took FOREVER for the hot water to get to a tolerable level. Oh, one other super positive though: this hotel is Super Pet Friendly. Read less

This hotel is just simply wonderful. The location is great and the staff is friendly to the point that after one night there I felt as if I had made new friends. They are respectful of Covid-19 precautions and quick to respond when a request is made (ice, bellman, etc.). I travel with a large dog and it can be difficult to find somewhere that will accept him but this property didn't bat an eye and was welcoming from the moment I drove up. I've already booked my next stay here. Read less

I’ve loved this hotel for years. It’s a beautiful hotel and the chain staked its brand on a quirky, hip, luxury feel at a pricetag that wasn’t insane. i love that my cats are always enthusiastically greeted, and in years past they have always spoiled us in some delightful way. Recent visits, since IHG bought the chain, have offered diminishing perks. But the COVID pandemic has changed all the rules for a while. I had to travel back to my home from across the country, and I specifically routed my trip to go through SLC so we could stay here - at a hotel i trusted. Along the way, I’ve stayed in various hotel chains who have all taken stringent precautions for travelers...adding plastic barriers at the checkin desk, all staff wearing masks, disinfectant wipes available for carts, marks for where people should stand, grab and go breakfast options. Kimpton did make some changes. Their valet, who was not wearing a mask, saw me get out of the car with a mask and asked me if we’d prefer to park our own car, and directed us to a space just to the side of the driveway. The reception desk had hand sanitizer but the person checking me in wasn’t wearing a mask. He did ask me if I needed a cart and pointed me to it, instead of the usual bellhop service. The staff seemed to be embracing the 6 foot mandate, but it just seemed to irresponsible to not wear masks when interfacing with customers...even when you only have 5 a day - especially people traveling across the country. As always, the staff was friendly and warm, but I really expected better, more stringent efforts to protect travelers and staff. Bottom line, this hotel has always seemed to care deeply and personally about their guests. It’s charming that a sign the front offered greetings to my 3 cats by name, and they had a hand-written note in our room welcoming them, but it seems like this chain missed the boat on the million ways they could have taken that personal touch and used it to reassure and keep their human travelers safe and worry-free. Nice staff from check in to check out. The room was a good size, great king bed. The bathroom was clean a large. The fridge did not work, called the front desk and they sent a new one up right away. Was great to stay at this hotel again.
