Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City, Utah

The hotel

Living up to its location, Hotel Monaco’s as dramatic inside as Salt Lake City is outside. Unapologetically decadent, and just on the right side of wild, its daring colours and patterns, plush furnishings, and complimentary Wine Hour welcome you back each night, whether you’ve been hitting the nearby slopes, hitting the free 24-hour gym, or just hitting the world-class shops and sights a stroll away. After the wine, you can slink off to The Vault – a den-style lounge with a creative cocktail list and bar menu. If you’re after something more substantial, Monaco Hotel’s Bambara restaurant mixes a casual bistro vibe with refined New American creations – all in the unique surrounds of an old Continental Bank lobby, complete with its historic arched windows.

It is always a home run there. The location is perfect. It is in walking distance to many restaurants and shopping. The Temple is also within walking distance. The valet drivers are so quick and friendly. The front staff is also so nice and helpful. If you need something, you will be assisted promptly. While they do have a great pet policy if you are not a pet loving person, don't let this discourage you. I have stayed there many times and only occasionally see an animal. I have found the majority of people there are not with animals. Read less

We had booked a Monte Carlo Suite and it was costing more than any other hotel on our trip (including a one bed club suite at the R-C in Denver!), so hopes were high of a "Wow" stay. We had booked a Monte Carlo Suite and it was costing more than any other hotel on our trip (including a one bed club suite at the R-C in Denver!), so hopes were high of a "Wow" stay. They were dashed as soon as we got to the room, on the second floor with a view over the entrance and the bin store, containing open bins. For $600 a night? It was also the entrance for linen deliveries etc. so there was vehicle-reversing beeping early in the morning. We complained and they said there was nothing they could do for the first night but they agreed to move us for the second night. We had valet parked the car and checked in to room 209 on the second floor, a suite. The room itself was OK, decorated in reds and gold with a bedroom, living room area and a tiny bathroom with a shower over the bath (poor water pressure). There was no room for toiletry bags, but they did supply good toiletries in big bottles. The lights were all controlled individually and the living room was quite dark, so it took ages to turn them all on and off again. Fast free WiFi, lots of charging points. Shortly after arriving, a bottle of Chardonnay, water and a bowl of trail mix were delivered with a welcome note. Wine hour is between 5pm and 6pm in the lobby: there was a choice of two reds and two whites plus a local beer. Served with canapes, it is a very relaxing time. The location is excellent, a short walk to shops and Temple Square. We used the gym which was small with three treadmills, two stairmasters and a bike - but two of the treadmills were not working although there were no signs to say so. For the second night, our keys were ready at reception and our luggage had been moved to the Majestic Suite on 12th floor. Much, much nicer, bigger room with views over to the mountains and Antelope Island. Also a bigger bathroom and a coffee machine with mugs. Read less

I visited with my adult sister for a long weekend. The staff is fantastic! They made sure every detail was taken care of. Our travel agency arranged for welcome chocolate and sparkling wine, which was so much fun! Highly recommend this hotel.

This is a wonderful hotel, centrally located to many downtown attractions. The staff was super friendly and they make a stay with a pet very easy, providing dog bowls and a dog bed. There were no additional pet fees. The afternoon wine event is a great opportunity to meet fellow guests. The onsite restaurant is one of the best in the city.

I wish I could have given 3.5 stars, as I feel 3 is too low but 4 is too high. First, the good. The common areas of the hotel are beautiful, interesting and have a really fun vibe. The staff was friendly, and let us know that parking in the garage on the weekend was free so we could avoid the $24 valet fee. The location is also good, walking distance to great restaurants and bars. And everything was impeccably clean. However, the room was quite small. The high ceilings make it feel quite spacious, but the truth is the room is tight. Especially the bathroom. It was plenty of space for one night for my husband and I alone, but if we had a lot of luggage or any of our kids with us, there’s no way we could have made this work. The bathroom is where it really got tight. I was thinking how difficult it would be to get around in there if a customer of size were to attempt to stay here. I’m glad I didn’t have that issue. The sink and tub both flowed very slowly, and the sink was full of water before I was even done washing my hands. But, the worst of the experience was the bed. We stayed for an overnight date mostly so I could catch up on some sleep after a few rough weeks with our kids. So, the overly firm and incredibly uncomfortable bed was a huge disappointment. The pillows were comfortable for sure, but I’m not sure there was any padding on the bed. Another reviewer remarked that the floor might have been more comfortable and I think they may have been correct. I’m not sure I slept for more than an hour all night, and not at one time, and I’m certain to have a sore back today. Read less
