The hotel

Living up to its location, Hotel Monaco’s as dramatic inside as Salt Lake City is outside. Unapologetically decadent, and just on the right side of wild, its daring colours and patterns, plush furnishings, and complimentary Wine Hour welcome you back each night, whether you’ve been hitting the nearby slopes, hitting the free 24-hour gym, or just hitting the world-class shops and sights a stroll away. After the wine, you can slink off to The Vault – a den-style lounge with a creative cocktail list and bar menu. If you’re after something more substantial, Monaco Hotel’s Bambara restaurant mixes a casual bistro vibe with refined New American creations – all in the unique surrounds of an old Continental Bank lobby, complete with its historic arched windows.

Weekend getaway with my husband for Valentines. We live 30 miles North of Salt Lake City but I’ve always wanted to stay here. So I figured to book a room for after a concert. We should have just drove home. For over $200 dollars for one night plus $25 dollars for valet parking. I was hoping for a much needed good nights sleep. I did not receive one. It was the worst bed and pillows I’ve ever slept in. I think the floor would have been better. Zero sleep, a leaky shower, scary elevators with doors that get stuck. Okay, so maybe the reservations for brunch would make the morning better. Nope! Sticky dirty restaurant, French toast had zero flavor. Basic omelette with potato’s that had no flavor also, the mimosa was ok, terrible burnt cappuccino, water with floaters. All for a hard $50 bucks. Nice enough staff, awesome that they accept dogs. But I will never stay here again nor will I ever recommend it. Sad day. Read less

We had a deluxe King room, and although having it right across from the elevators, on a floor too low to have a good view, was a little disappointing, the room itself was well-appointed and comfortable. The wine tasting social each evening was a nice treat. The Bambara restaurant is fantastic - we enjoyed brunch, lunch, and dinner there on different days, and all three visits were great. The staff are friendly and accommodating. I'd have liked to see some kind of continental breakfast included - they only offer coffee & hot chocolate in the morning, otherwise you have to pay for breakfast at the restaurant. The front door isn't automatic, and there's no door man to open it for visitors loaded down with luggage, so I'm concerned about ADA access. But for those two items (breakfast & door access), I'd give 5 stars. Read less

Very friendly staff. Carl and his lady team member at the time of check-in were amazing! The rooms are on the smaller side. The lounge area is nice and they serve coffee in the morning. They have some activities for guests at the time we were there. They were having some wine tasting which we missed since I was catching up on work . The… Read more

The restaurant downstairs serves an amazing elk steak. Great chefs soup which my 8-month old daughter enjoyed very much! Their creme brulee was amazing! I forgot to mention that the internet connection was surprising fast allowing me to work without any interruptions. Read less

Location is great! Right downtown. We did valet parking and that was fine @ $24 per night. I think that’s the standard price for downtown hotels, as parking is always tough. Pet friendly hotel, with tons of character and charm. Lots of fun lamps and art. Our room was clean and very comfortable. We also found the hotel to be quiet and friendly. The… Read more

Pet friendly hotel, with tons of character and charm. Lots of fun lamps and art. Our room was clean and very comfortable. We also found the hotel to be quiet and friendly. The room offered a Keurig coffee pot with two pods. Additional coffee required a trip to the lobby where I also found a hot chocolate station. Everything worked well and we chose the Bambara restaurant credit instead of valet parking or breakfast. Overall, Kimpton is a great hotel chain and a decent choice for downtown Salt Lake City.
