Courtyard Washington Embassy Row

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

The DC action surrounding this Scott Circle hotel’s a far contrast from the calm simplicity of its guestrooms, where extra touches include complimentary bottled water and WiFi. Just 3 blocks from Dupont Circle, you’ve got all the sightseeing you need within an easy walk (although you’re also near 3 metro stations if you’d rather save your shoe leather for exploring the sights themselves). There are the big names, like the White House 5 blocks away, and US Capitol Building a mile away; much-coveted monuments, like National Mall a mile away; and museums and galleries, many in the surrounding blocks, and with the Smithsonian Museums 2 miles away. Courtyard by Marriott Embassy Row gives plenty of excuses to return to base though, like its indoor pool and hot tub, fitness centre, and French-inspired bistro dining.

Lovely shower and ample space in both bathroom and sleeping area. Staff was friendly and efficient. Hotel is in a great area-easy walk to restaurants. We will stay here again. Hotel does not have its own parking. We were there on a weekend and found free street parking around the corner. There are garages in the area as well. Read less

Staff was very different depending on the shift. Check in was very smooth. Toiletries were very limited like toilet paper. Was not replenished by maids. Overall nice stay. Water provided all day, breakfast was okay.

The complimentary breakfast was nice. Not a lot of protein options, but still adequate - bagels, toast, cereal, doughnuts, coffee juice, milk, yogurt, banannas. Negatives - Only parking available at the hotel is valet - it's very, very slow. Expect to wait about 20 min to retrieve your car. Parked in the hotel drive and valet was no where to be found. I had to leave my car to go to the front desk and then they sent the valet guy. Took about 10-15 min to get my car parked. Also - their website Amenities section posted shows that they have a Sundries Shop for travel necessities - snacks, drinks and you know - the def of sundries can include things such as toiletries, otc meds like aspirin, etc. They have NO SUCH THING. All they had across from the front desk sitting on a counter was some snacks - chips, and some drinks. They didn't even have bottled water the night we were staying after a long day. They did have self serve ice tea and water by the front desk but no bottle water or other "sundries" as advertised on their website. We had to go down the street to purchase water. The staff said their water delivery didn't come in. They were nice - but this was pretty upsetting to me being that I was their with my whole family and small children. I understand they're still updating things - but please update your site to make it true. Overall it was an ok stay. The staff was pleasant. Read less

The beds were extremely comfortable and the shower had great pressure & endless hot water. Internet is strong and fast. The hotel is conveniently located for Georgetown, Dupont Circle, the metro, etc. Lots of great restaurants nearby. The cons: They are under construction so drilling and jack hammering goes from 8am-5pm. Forget a quiet afternoon nap! Our room had no closet, just a pathetic rack for hanging clothes, and no towel rack in the bathroom so towels were placed on the back of the toilet. There was also a giant steel girder in our room. Breakfast is mostly cold items and a toaster to heat bagels and toast in a dismal setting in the basement (with jack hammering overhead). No room service for meals. The pool is not open. Had we known all of this we would've stayed in a different hotel- there are plenty of others nearby. A friend stayed at the Holiday Inn down the street & it was much nicer than Hotel 1660, at a better price! Read less

The best way to summarize our visit is that our experience is not we expected. The hotel pictured online when we booked in March and the ratings we saw at the time of our booking, frankly, did not live up to our experience - especially for the price we paid (more than we have paid per night in quite some time including trips to Hawaii). The Pros: - Location is in the heart of everything, including being close to Georgetown, the National Mall, and the Federal Triangle driving wise. - Our room was not ready when we arrived at 2pm on our check-in day, but the staff was great (especially Conrad) during that process. Also, the staff were quite helpful in navigating where to eat during the evenings (thank you so much for introducing us to Otellas). - Our King room was spacious and comfortable. - Surrounded by Uber drivers, taxis, and access to the Metro (with a bit of walk). - Felt secure with leaving our laptops and other items in the room while we visited various points of interest. Neutral (Neither Good nor Bad) - Our room did not have a fridge (a must for us given the length of our stay) or a microwave. However, we were able to request and quickly receive a fridge. - We chose to exclusively use the Metro for the sake of having to deal with a car/limited parking throughout this vacation. From what I could gather on this trip, it is at least a half mile walk to any of the nearby metro access stations. We didn't mind the walk, but it might be an issue for others. - Parking appeared to be limited and pricey for those driving to this hotel, but I can attest to the specifics. - Mild traffic noise (mostly sirens from emergency vehicles racing through the area) with the occasional noisy neighbor (though that only occurred once). Cons: - The overarching con for our stay is that the hotel is under construction - basically don't stay on the 2nd floor unless you enjoy being awakened by construction noise at 7am everyday as was our experience. - Pool is permanently close per my understanding. There is a fitness room, but I did not utilize it so I cannot attest to its state from this trip. - Breakfast was not a "hot" breakfast in any sense for those expecting the type of breakfast from a Holiday Inn. - I felt a bit deceived in regard to the extent of ongoing construction in that it would have been a major factor in my hotel selection process had it been noted anywhere (even just as a brief note on the website) when I researched hotels in the district. Based on my experience from this trip, I am willing to give this location another try after they complete construction but not before. Read less
