The hotel

If you want to really ‘see’ Washington D.C, DoubleTree Hotel Crystal City’s an ideal choice. The views here are incredible, stretching to the Monument, The Pentagon and Potomac River. The best outlook is from its Skydome Restaurant, a fabulous revolving eatery giving a 360-degree panorama of the US capital. You can also enjoy the vista from the luxurious heated penthouse pool, on the 14th floor. Getting your bearings, you’ll quickly realise you’re right by some of DC’s top sights: the Pentagon’s only 5 minutes’ stroll and there are countless restaurants around the hotel. You’re also within walking distance of Pentagon City Mall, but there’s a complimentary shuttle to the mall and metro, to make shopping and sightseeing even easier.

As usual, I get the feeling that terrible rooms are reserved for people of color. My impression differs from that of other Tripadvisor members in that I found this hotel to be dirty and rundown, but that is based on the room I was given. Early flight. I attempted to check my bag so that I could come back later and check in. The staff stated that they had plenty of rooms ready, including the one I had been assigned. They then offered an "upgrade" for $20 to a suite. If they offer this to you, don't take it for reasons to be discussed. They are basically sizing you up for what you deserve in a very ironic way and taking advantage of you. Lobby has the major hotel feel. Its seating was crowded in the evening with young people. I didn't have a ton of time to explore the hotel otherwise, so I can't speak to the fitness or other amenities. I walked into my room and noticed that it had a terrible smell. Everything in the room was either very worn or broken. The TV over the bar was hanging sideways. Most of the furniture was dirty with food, hand prints, or something. There was something that looked like, um, male bodily fluid on the couch. A door to the bar was broken off. Numerous stains - some fresh and some not - on the carpets. Even vacuuming every once in awhile would help. There was a huge, greasy hand print on the frosted glass doors to the bedroom. Interestingly, although I put the do not disturb sign on the door while I was out of the room during the day, the defined hand print was buffed away into a greasy cloud when I returned. The layouts of the rooms do not appear to be very thoughtful. The desk was isolated in more of a hall and didn't have a TV in any sight line. The sleeping area was in the part of the room closest to the noisy highway. No view - the apartment building next door and the highway. The hotel's location is very good otherwise - walkable from the Crystal City Metro although I wouldn't do it with luggage. It is probably a bit closer to Pentagon City, which has a decent mall and a ton of places to shop and eat including Nordstrom, Zara, etc. Nordstrom Rack is across the street from the mall. There is a Whole Foods a half a block from the hotel. This stuff has always been there but Crystal and Pentagon City are changing rapidly in advance of A2. There are a ton of yuppie chains opening on the blocks around the hotel including CorePower, Sweetgreen, etc. I would honesty love to see A2 pull out of Crystal City like they did in NYC, although that's not happening. It used to be a relatively affordable place on the Metro to live in close proximity to DC. Now, all of the affordable housing is being increasingly pushed outside of the one-hour commute circumference. I stay in Crystal City often and would never stay here again. The Westin is the best Crystal City hotel that I have found so far. The Marriott Gateway will also do in a pinch. Read less

Room was wrong had to go back down to lobby x2 to fix the issue. Toilet clogged upon arrival. Valet parking didnt answer for 10mins, and hotel staff knowledge and friendless needs to improve. Was told it would cost $50 to park in DC on a Sunday. So we took the metro. Got into DC and parking was free on Sunday. Why didnt hotel employee know this.

I was here to attend meetings, and I don’t know what the rooms cost. Staff was friendly, there are a wide variety of restaurants and a real grocery store within a nice mile walk, and best of all- a refrigerator in the room! Awesome!!

Hey- Hoping the general manager can respond/help. Just spent 45 minutes on the phone with general booking in an attempt to book a block of rooms for an upcoming event. It was frustrating, to say the least, and I hung up the phone wondering whether I'd succeeded. We're trying to book 15 rooms--If the general manager could contact me, that would… Read more

I routinely stay at this hotel based on the service and location. Although the decor is a little dated, it is clean, comfortable, the rooms are reasonably well insulated for sound, the staff is very helpful and they treat honors members well.
