Kimpton Hotel Madera

Dupont Circle and Embassy Row, Washington DC

The hotel

Ideally located for soaking up the culture and history of Washington, the Kimpton Hotel Madera is just a short walk from all attractions, including restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Although it’s so close, it’s peaceful ambience isn’t compromised in the least, offering a true respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Award-winning service and comfort is what the Madera is all about and there’s a lot that’s complimentary, morning coffee and a hosted evening wine hour – perfect for getting to know your fellow holidaymakers. Adjacent to the hotel is the wildly popular Firefly Restaurant with its laid-back atmosphere and contemporary American comfort food. They also serve a mean cocktail – so even if you’re not dining here, pop in for a drink beforehand anyway.

Bathroom is the size of a sardine can. Hallway and room had funny smelling oder. For some reason there was water all over the floor in the bathroom and there were ants coming out of no where. Half the Channel on the tv didn’t have volume so i ended up watching my iPad. My company paid over $2000 for the staff to stay in this hotel and I personally… Read more

Pet and people friendly! Very convenient location. Great staff. We would return to this comfortable hotel. They were very cordial when we did not need the valet parking as our daughter got us a neighborhood pass.

Great location close to dupont circle. Clean no frills hotel. Only sed it for a base so did not want anything else. Wine hour was good and free coffee in morning was a nice touch. Lack of reception area was a little odd . If someone was having a disagreement with the staff you have no option but to stay close by.

So disappointed. RUDE, SNOOTY, RUDE, RUDE!!!!!Booked this hotel through a 3rd party discount site. 3 rooms for the weekend to celebrate my husbands retirement after 22 years in the US Navy. Got to the hotel and attempted to check in. I gave my name but they could not find my reservation. Oh!!! Because I had recently gotten married and my new name had never been changed on the 3rd party website account. No problem. I will just log onto the account and change my last name right in front of you sir. Nope, not acceptable the desk clerk who also claimed to be manager said. Then he informed me that my military ID and credit card with the “correct” first name & different last name were unacceptable. But why? My credit card matches the one on file AND matches my ID. But, I had just driven 4 hours and I did not have any other info with me. “Sorry”. BUT, I informed the snooty male desk clerk, the CREDIT card that PAID for my hotel was in my hand in front of him!!!! So who CARES what name is on the reservation as long as the credit card used to MAKE the purchase belongs to the person standing in front of you? Nope. The tall male desk clerk, was rude, extremely snooty for NO good reason (believe me), and unhelpful. Perhaps he was nasty because he saw we got a discount rate. Well, if Kimpton looks down it’s noses at people who obtain a discount then perhaps they should not offer one. And then to top it all off and seal my opinion of this nasty clerk who also claimed to be the manager, he treated the next customer behind us abhorrently!!! A patron who had an extra charge for his meal that was supposed to be comped the day before. He was so rude to this man. Unbelievable!! So, after driving for hours with my husband, 2 boys, and elderly mother in law, and spending hundreds of dollars we had to leave DEJECTED, and embarrassed. Between our party and the gentleman in line after us, it was a rough 25 minutes in that hotel lobby. More customer service training needs to be put in place, and personally I would not recommend until better treatment occurs. I would think Kimpton properties would be more helpful. Read less
