Image of the Tripadvisor rating OK...but a few MAJOR issues on our engagement weekend!

We checked into the hotel for a weekend romantic stay. In fact, we became engaged during our visit. The room was ok, the staff was accommodating and courteous for the most part. We checked into the hotel for a weekend romantic stay. In fact, we became engaged during our visit. The room was ok, the staff was accommodating and courteous for the most part. They even accepted and held a bouquet of flowers that I had asked to be delivered to the front desk in advance of our arrival. However, about an hour after we checked in, someone used a keycard to walk into our room claiming that they had been checked into the same room by the staff downstairs! We were able to stop them from making it completely into the room, which was fortunate because we were not in any state to have company at the time. When we reached the staff downstairs, they informed us that it was not possible for someone else to have been assigned the room. Then the other couple made it to the lobby to complain. The staff realized their mistake and called to apologize and walked a reprogrammed set of keys to the room. They also promised to grant us 10,000 IHG points. Two months later, I am still waiting for those points despite three emails and three calls to the hotel manager. The double-booked room was a major issue, even though the embarrassment has certainly passed, but the hotel's inability to keep its promises is a major issue for me, as a long term Kimpton guest. I can no longer in clear conscience recommend this hotel or any other Kimpton as long as this remains unresolved. Read less

Lots of good to say about the hotel. We had to travel with our dog and were pleasantly surprised to find the Kimpton Inns and Suites. All locations encourage and welcome pets. We were provided with dog dishes and waste bags, although we had to ask for these. There is a park just a half a block away, too. There was a complementary breakfast as well as a free wine happy hour. You could even bring your dog to happy hour. Also, the hotel is very convenient to public transit. - 2 minutes to the bus and 8-10 minutes to the train. The neighborhood felt quite safe, well it and busy even at night. Best of all we got a stay 3 nights, get the 4th night free special. On the down side the door to the room was incredibly hard to close and had to be slammed each time. The room /suite itself was comfortable but it had an old hotel smell to it. In all it was a great find. Read less

Wasn't sure what to expect from this hotel, but it was a great visit. Service was great, and the room was clean and comfortable. The location was central to most things in DC - seemed like we were 10 minutes from everywhere we wanted to be. Would definitely stay here again

I've stayed at this hotel before without issue. It seems clean and well kept but based on my interaction with hotel staff I'm not confident that the bug issue will be sufficiently addressed. However, I moved to a different room and did not get bitten again during the remainder of my stay. Hotel management did give me a refund for one night (not that it really matters since I was traveling for business). I only received a refund because they didn't have an open room to move me to, I tried to move to a different hotel but surrounding hotels were booked and so I had to spend one night sleeping on a cot in the room I was bitten in. Otherwise, I don't think they would have offered me any compensation. The initial front desk person I talked to didn't seem at all concerned to hear that I woke up with bites, which is concerning. I came in with my family for a night to visit Washington DC. The hotel is in a good location. The design overall is not too bad. However many things could use an update. Usually I am not a complainer however, not this time. We had two rooms, one room seemed not to be even inspected after being cleaned as there was a strong smell of marijuana filling the entire room. Thankfully the front office staff was willing to change the room. Guess what? Coming in there were several disgusting stains on the curtain between the bedroom and the bathroom. That’s not all, in both rooms the curtains in the room were ripped, as well as the curtains in the shower. The AC was very loud during the night, even in the low mode. One of the windows wouldn’t close shut, therefore it was letting in some cold air from the outside. Additionally, when we asked for a kettle we got a coffee machine. Furthermore, in the ‘new room’ the shower head was leaking so much, it was almost impossible to shower in. Unfortunately, I’m not able to attach a video. All We got was we are very sorry. Overall they should keep more attention to details and find a better way to handle complaints. Also they should be able to put the duvet cover the usual way, since I don’t think any of the guests would like to breath onto and sleep by the falling out duvet. Read less
