Hyatt Place Washington DC/National Mall

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

This new addition to Washington’s hotel scene opened its doors to the public in November 2015, so expect everything to be bang-up-to-date at this city centre gem. Spacious guestrooms mean you can really stretch out and relax with a seating area, double bed and pull-out sofa bed – perfect for families as well as couples. There’s also a 24-hour fitness centre should you feel the need for a workout, complete with a swimming pool for cooling off in. There are myriad attractions on your doorstep, including eateries galore but the Hyatt ensures your day gets off to a great start with a complimentary hot breakfast from the Kitchen Skillet. Also very handy for intrepid explorers is the grab ‘n go menu and the 24/7 gallery menu, serving food the way you want it, when you want it. If you’re in need of a reviving shot of caffeine, pop into the Coffee to Cocktails bar, and, once the sun’s over a certain yardarm, you can swap coffee for a mojito perhaps or a craft beer!

Hyatt Place is located at an excellent area, very close to eateries, shopping, and museums. It was a short walk to the bus tour area, too. Everyone we came in contact with at the hotel was very friendly. The full breakfast was excellent, bedrooms clean and comfortable.

The Hyatt National Mall is only a couple blocks from the metro station Federal SW and the Mall. The location was perfect for our family, as we were constantly caught up in the hustle and bustle of the mall, but close enough that we could walk there in 5-10 minutes or jump on the metro. Hotel was clean and staff was very friendly! We would stay… Read more

We stayed here for two nights over a long weekend. The hotel is in a very quiet location. We had room 903 on the freeway side, but weren't bothered by traffic sounds until Monday morning, when traffic picks up. They provide you with earplugs in case you are bothered by noise! The staff was helpful and polite upon check in - we arrived early and had two rooms. They let us check in to the one room that was ready so we could put our bags in and start exploring! It was a quick walk to the National Mall, but after a whole afternoon of walking, we were exhausted. Thankfully, the hotel is an even easier five minute walk from the closest Metro station! The breakfast is complimentary if you belong to Hyatt's rewards program, which is easy to do. The staff was very attentive and helpful and cleared our plates almost as soon as we were done, but didn't give you the feeling they wanted to rush you out. There was a different hot menu each day that was very good, as well as fresh fruits, granola, bagels, etc. The only problems we encountered with this hotel was that there are no vending machines to get a quick drink. The little bar area near reception is open all the time, but it would be nice to just walk down the hallway and get a drink. There is an ice machine, why not a place to get drinks. Also, the rooftop bar and grill was not open the weekend we were there though there were plenty of people looking for it. Also, this is in a quiet area of D.C., so there if you are there on a Sunday evening, there is no place open at all nearby to get dinner - not even the hotel. We ended up finding a place that delivered since after two days and walking over fifteen miles, we did not feel like going out in search of dinner! Overall, it was a nice, clean place to stay with rooms that were reasonably quiet with the hotel literally backing up to 695. It was easy to find, parking is a cinch with valet, though I don't think we would have been able to access our vehicle if needed. They accommodated us with early check in so that wasn't a problem. The location is great if you like quiet and on the weekend it was almost like a ghost town! Plan ahead for where you want to eat! Read less

There was much to like about this hotel, room was nice, breakfast excellent but my stay was soured by bad customer service. At breakfast, staff member felt they needed to yell at me for approaching buffet from the wrong direction, turns out there's an exit sign. At breakfast, staff member felt they needed to yell at me for approaching buffet from the wrong direction, turns out there's an exit sign. Made no difference, practically no one there, but, for whatever reason. The rooftop deck advertised was not accessible when I wanted to check it out due to a private party. Tried twice more, elevator wouldn't let you access. When I told the receptionist at checkout that I was disappointed and would have liked to have just once see the advertised view, another employee came over and started arguing with me, telling me amenities are not guaranteed and that the private party paid for the use of the deck. Really? As a paying guest my payment not of interest. I had to demand three times to just check me out before she would leave me alone, really sour experience. Other annoyances minor, they give you a cordless phone, nice, but handset missing, so when someone calls you are helpless to answer, not corrected after reporting A shame, because this fight was 100% unnecessary, just reporting my disappointment.
