I see that on certain platforms that Monaco hotel rates well above 4 ??? I am sorry but it is in no way justified. I see that on certain platforms that Monaco hotel rates well above 4 ??? I am sorry but it is in no way justified. First of all, many staff members - not all - are unfriendly and do not make you feel you welcomed. So that alone is a zero for me. Secondly, the hotel has been “incorporated” in some way in an ancient building of some administrative office. The lay out of the hotel is not practical at all, and is old fashioned. In the rooms - that must previously have been individual offices - a “bathroom block module” has been incorporated as an add on. Surprising to see. Finally, despite the daily rate, do not expect - like do - to make your coffee or tea in your room when you wake up. No kettle, nor Nespresso. But ..... you have free coffee and tea in the lobby ( do not go and get one in your pyjamas). One special benefit: every day, between 17:00 and 18:00 (strictly) free glass of good white or red whine in the lobby. In short: The company booked me there because close to our meeting place. Would I book again ? No. Sorry. Read less

quirky little hotel directly across from the Smithsonian Portrait Gallery. staff bends over backwards to please, including pre-check-in and post-check-in texts. spacious rooms. reasonably priced for Washington DC and the hotel's proximity to Chinatown, Smithsonian and other attractions.

Average hotel. The rooms are old square boxes with bathrooms built into a corner. Different sizes as the building used to be a post office building. There is no dresser in the room for your things, just one night table with 3 small drawers. No coffee maker. There is no dresser in the room for your things, just one night table with 3 small drawers. No coffee maker. The closet has a fridge on one shelf, glasses and ice bucket on the other, pillows and blanket on another and on the floor is a safe. You need ot live out of your suitcase. Oh, there are open shelves in the bathroom. Staff is "matter of fact", kinda like a public servant....in a city full of public servants. Restaurant menu is not large and not much variety. Bar staff was excellent. Stupid little thing....the bar is in the back of the hotel but the only public washroom is in the front, up a flight of stairs and way down a hall. As the title says, it is in a great location. If the price is right, I would stay there again. Read less

After reading the reviews on this hotel, we thought we’d give it a try for something different. We’ve stayed at The Ritz Carlton in DC and were not impressed. The Ritz Carlton DC felt more like a business type hotel. The bar wasn’t great at all. Room service was just ok. Overall experience was mediocre. So, we decided to stay at Hotel Monaco! Great hotel!!! From the minute we arrived until the minute we left and all the time in between, we had absolutely no complaints!! The service was excellent!! The rooms were great and full of character, as was the entire hotel!! The food in the restaurant and room service was excellent!! Room service didn’t miss a beat!! Got everything right!!! Great outdoor bar with great music!! The entire staff was very personable; yet still very professional!! Housekeeping never yelled down the hallway, which we had an issue with at our last stay at The Ritz Carlton. If housekeeping was vacuuming, they immediately turned off the vacuum cleaners until the guests passed. Hotel Monaco is in a great location as well! Can walk most everywhere! Or, most places are a very short cab ride away. The staff has been trained very well at this hotel!! Ambiance is great—funky/eclectic!No complaints! We travel quite a lot all around the world, and we have to say, this hotel overall is excellent!! It’s not shiny and modern, but with the experience we had, that’s fine with us!! We highly recommend!!!👍👍 Read less
