The Monaco is a beautiful hotel located close to the National mall and lots and lots of great restaurants. The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable. The staff is outstanding and the most customer-centric I have encountered. This hotel lives up to the Kimpton brand.

Bought tickets for JLo for my wife’s birthday and selected Monaco because I believe Kimpton properties are all very good and for location. The staff were super friendly and would only ask what more they could do for us. In fact, they went above and beyond by setting up balloons, champagne, fruit, cupcakes and a personalized birthday card for my wife with a picture of JLo on it. I mean - who does that? Wow - we were so impressed and it set the tone for our stay. Not the Four Seasons and their service is also good. Dirty Habit has top notch spirits including select Japanese whiskey which are not readily available at other bars. The restaurant brunch was excellent (get the bahn mi). I’m going back for 2 more shows at Anthem which is further away but I don’t care because I will just Uber. Stay here, be happy, enjoy! Read less

My husband and I had tickets for a concert, and I picked this hotel. When I looked at a map, it looked as though the hotel was only a few blocks from the arena. My husband and I had tickets for a concert, and I picked this hotel. When I looked at a map, it looked as though the hotel was only a few blocks from the arena. It’s much closer - on the other side of the intersection. Depending on which door they unlock at the arena for your event, you can be 100 feet away or less. The building itself is very interesting as a post office built in the 1830’s with very high ceilings (18 feet?) in the hallways and in the rooms. I liked the decor, statues of Thomas Jefferson, and sculptures made of metal. I was concerned that our room on the second floor, just 30 feet from the street, would be noisy. But it wasn’t. I could see that another pane of glass was installed up against the old, original window. We heard almost nothing. The air conditioning reached 65 degrees, which was very important for me to get any sleep in this dreadful heat wave. And the air conditioning was not noisy. The staff were very attentive, sending me frequent texts to see if I needed anything before and during our stay. The only thing I can criticize them for is the housekeeping in the room could have been better. Overall, this is a great hotel for any event in this part of DC. It manages to be relatively quiet, despite being downtown in a very busy part, and the architecture is very interesting. Read less

From the tall ceilings, broad hallways, and funky lion decor, there is nothing that would remind you of a Holiday Inn Express by an interstate exit somewhere. The building was originally the main post-office for Washington during the 19th century. (It was replaced by a building on Pennsylvania Avenue that is also a hotel, now.) Thus, the Kimpton… Read more
From the tall ceilings, broad hallways, and funky lion decor, there is nothing that would remind you of a Holiday Inn Express by an interstate exit somewhere. The building was originally the main post-office for Washington during the 19th century. (It was replaced by a building on Pennsylvania Avenue that is also a hotel, now.) Thus, the Kimpton Monaco has the neoclassical touches of the early republic. The rooms are small, but well-furnished and comfortable. No coffee-maker in the room. I’m not sure why the shampoo and bath gel dispensers are not placed in the shower/tub. Service was impeccable. If you arrive late, you probably will need to get your luggage up 8 steps to the lobby. There is a wheelchair-accessible entrance below grade. In addition to the large lion over the bed, the hotel provides comfortable robes in zebra and cheetah patterns. Nothing like being a zebra asleep under the lion. Read less
