Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

On the masculine side of sultry, this urban hangout’s dressed in macho greys, with muted jewel accents, monochrome detailing, and warming dashes of wood and distressed leather. It all fits in with the manly ‘cut and thrust’ of Washington DC and Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel’s neighbourhood, which they describe as ‘the IT zone’. Steps from 14th Street, the rooms still ooze spaciousness from their former life as apartments. After grabbing free tea or coffee downstairs each morning, you can walk to the White House and other DC delights, or hop on a complimentary bike to explore – just be back for the nightly wine hour. Guests staying in summertime can mix days sightseeing with days at the rooftop pool, before joining local crowds at its accompanying bar for creative cocktails and starlit views over the capital.

A nice hotel with a quiet neighborhood. The room was large, comfy bed, nice desk, and large shower. Wine hour every day from 5-6. It’s out of the way for Hill visits or sightseeing, but was a nice 15 minute walk to my meeting location. I would definitely stay here again.

The concierge Dannyboy (yes his real name) was great giving many different restaurant choices, tour ideas, even offering to go down the street and purchase some Tylenol for us when we ran out. Hotel was nice, in the center of the “U” district, within walking distance of many excellent restaurants and bars. The bar in the hotel has good drinks, although house wine comes out of a tap, and has a fizzy taste to it. Food and atmosphere is very good in the restaurant. Upscale and eclectic kind of menu. We had a suite and the room was large, although it reminded me of being in an European Hotel. All and all I would recommend staying here. Read less

The Hotel is on a quiet street and very close to a bus stoop to take you into the centre, which is not very far away. The room was a good size and the bathroom excellent. The staff coudn't be more helpful. Good breakfast, but when busy the staff don't seem to be able to cope, not their fault, not enough of them at busy times. Added bonus is the… Read more

I stayed at the hotel with my husband and our two-year old son over a long weekend last week of April. The location and the hotel The hotel itself is nice and the location is decent. There is a Wholefoods close which was great. Metro is not super close but there are several bus lines that run in the area. The room and the staff We had a suite on the second floor. We had little interaction with the staff but they seemed nice. We did not eat at the restaurant, so I can't speak to the food. The problem We accidentally left our son's pillow on the bed. I realized that a couple of hours after we checked out. I immediately called the hotel and left a message for the housekeeping. No one called me back, I called the hotel every day the following week and spoke to various people from both the front desk and the housekeeping. I was told they would contact their laundry provider and get back to me but they never did. Eventually I gave up and left them alone. I understand that this was not a priority for them but I felt they could've handled this situation differently. I would appreciate them actually making an effort or at least pretending to make an effort and call me back to say the pillow could not be found. Also, I was not able to sleep well all two nights we were there. It might be just me but there was some sort of a transformer or something electric working and making a very disturbing humming sound of low frequency. Perhaps it doesn't disturb everyone. Read less

This was my first time staying at this hotel. I travel to DC all the time for work and have stayed at almost every decent hotel in the District at one time or another.
