Sofitel in DC is a very nice hotel in DC: and the staff are very helpful and friendly. My room was nice with an excellent bathroom. The location of the hotel is it’s ‘unique selling point’: it is a stone’s throw from The White House in the heart of DC.

I love Sofitel and was excited to get a late minute deal for this hotel. Plus points are great location, minutes from White House and tourist spots - everything is walkable. Staff at front desk minimal interaction, gave us a key with no mention of any amenities or sights in the area (as first time visitors), and didn't activate our key and then no apologies for making us return to the lobby. Bathrooms lack privacy- ours had a barn door style with a large gap! I actually preferred our second nights stay at a lower starred boutique hotel in a nearby location on embassy row- where the front desk member walked us to our room while giving us tips on restaurants and sight seeing, and was generally much more welcoming. First, this hotel was nice. The room was clean, comfortable, and nice. Other than that, I didn’t feel like this hotel was worth the expense. There is a resort fee- which I would have been fine paying had literally anything been included. Instead, I paid a $29 resort fee for the pleasure of being able to buy a $77 breakfast of two omelettes, 2 coffees, and one croissant. They mention a gym and WiFi are included, but even 3 star hotels include those for free. Capital Bikeshare listed as an amenity? Come on, it’s available to the public and not even on your property. While I got the basics of a room here- again a nice room other than surprisingly scratchy towels- I feel I was nickel and dimed for everything else. With how much the rooms cost and a resort fee, at least include the water in the room ($7) or even the half-sized can of pringles ($10), nevermind the thought of even a pastry selection included for breakfast. I enjoyed the stay, but felt ripped off every step of the way. Read less

Location: Lafayette Square. Close to White House, and excellent runs on Mall east and west. Less than $20 Lyft/Uber ride to/from DCA, with tip. Front Desk: very helpful staff, but sometimes seems understaffed and there’s a wait. They checked me in early so I could squeeze in a run before my lunch meeting. Checkout was fast and bill was correct. Room: 620 was a quiet L-shaped room fronting on 15th St NW. 2 Queen sized beds and a large couch. Large bath with shower stall and tub with plenty of towels and racks. The most electrical outlets I’ve found in a hotel all year- everywhere: desk, couch, bedside. Housekeeping did their job- room was in terrific shape when I arrived. Free Wifi was fast and reliable. Coffee maker in room and lobby has coffee plus tea in the mornings. Read less

My family spend 10 days at this hotel and let me tell you the whole staff from the doormen to the custodians all treated us like family. The food and the food restaurant service was excellent. How can you rate a place that makes you feel at home everyday and that you were sad to leave. Thank you for the best trip to DC.
