The Kimpton Donovan

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

The Kimpton Donovan’s earned its right to reside in the US capital, with slick urban styling, signature Kimpton service, and cool communal hangouts. Its guestrooms may seem minimalist, but they’re packed with smart detailing, like oversized ceiling-skimming leather headboards, space-age chairs, and spiral showers. They’re the perfect setting for the in-room spa services. If you can tear yourself away, the lobby has complimentary hot drinks each morning, and a wine hour early evenings to welcome you back from sightseeing. And it’s easy to sightsee here, with attractions like The White House and 14th Street a walk away. When you return, retreat to the DNV Rooftop Lounge, with its pool, cocktail menu, and DC views.

Ezekiel and Beryl at the registration desk exceeded expectations for being welcoming, accommodating, and professional. They took an authentic interest in my comfort. The rooms are cheerful, bright. The shower is interesting and the TV is HUGE. This hotel takes service very seriously. The rooftop bar's view is lovely and comfortable.

I have always heard that Kimpton is high-end hotel, so maybe I was more disappointed than I should be. Although the staff were nice and knowledgeable the room was an absolute dump. Stained carpets, cracked sinks, peeling paint, large hole in desk where a plugs use to be. Large bathrooms that jutted into the room in opaque plastic so that if you used it in the middle of the night you lit up the entire room and your sleeping partner. On the good side, it was noise proof as we were close to the elevators and did not hear them. We overlooked an interior courtyard and were on the 10th (not top floor) and did not hear street noises. Upon leaving I wanted to pay separately for my car parking bill and a staff member asked me to pay $50 cash and when I asked for a receipt he balked and then when I paid at the hotel staff desk it was more money than noted outside $59 - I guess I should have paid cash, no receipt and ran. Maybe I will come again when it is refurbished. Read less

David at the front desk has exceptional customer service. Upon arrival, he greeted me with a warm welcome. His infectious personality and exceptional customer service make the Donovan feel like home. I look forward to coming back!

Rooms are good, the circular shower takes up a lot of space, but the huge TVs are awesome (I could watch without my glasses!). I do not recommend room service. Sub par food at high prices. Super easy check in and check out with friendly staff

Stayed here this past weekend and this hotel is everything! Amazing staff, accommodations, service and housekeeping. When we arrived late Friday night, David took amazing care of us, he was definitely a highlight of our stay. Every staff member at the Donovan was outstanding.
