The Kimpton Donovan

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

The Kimpton Donovan’s earned its right to reside in the US capital, with slick urban styling, signature Kimpton service, and cool communal hangouts. Its guestrooms may seem minimalist, but they’re packed with smart detailing, like oversized ceiling-skimming leather headboards, space-age chairs, and spiral showers. They’re the perfect setting for the in-room spa services. If you can tear yourself away, the lobby has complimentary hot drinks each morning, and a wine hour early evenings to welcome you back from sightseeing. And it’s easy to sightsee here, with attractions like The White House and 14th Street a walk away. When you return, retreat to the DNV Rooftop Lounge, with its pool, cocktail menu, and DC views.

So I checked in this afternoon. I had no idea it was no longer a Kimpton hotel, I'm use to the elegant stylish Kimpton hotels of the IHG...THIS WAS NOT. I first noticed the extremely nasty floors, and it appears this is now one of the cheapest hotels in DC. Once I got to my floor the smell hit me hard, OMG the outside of the hotel actually is… Read more

I first noticed the extremely nasty floors, and it appears this is now one of the cheapest hotels in DC. Once I got to my floor the smell hit me hard, OMG the outside of the hotel actually is cleaner and smells better than the hall on my floor. I'm calling the travel folks to get me out of here, there is no way I can stay here for 7 days. Read less

Arrived to the hotel and was immediately greeted by staff. They knew it was a birthday trip and upgraded my reservation free of charge. The hotel was clean and service was great. The suite was nice and chic. The rooftop pool was nice although not opened at the stated times (7am) so we had to call the front desk. Overall would highly recommend this… Read more

I would normally give the Donovan 5 stars but since they are no longer a prt of the Kimpton family, aside from some staff members so much has changed. They would give 10.00 off the mini bar/snacks, they no longer do that. The prices have gone up also. This is my go to hotel when I’m in DC~ hopefully things get better.

I wasn't really impressed, talks about a boutique hotel, well not so much. It needs many updates in the elevators, floors tiles are broken, faucets leaked, small rooms. The upside was the location, convenient to Metro and walking distance to the Mall. First day took my teen to the roof top for supper, was like 5 pm and we had just landed. I… Read more

The upside was the location, convenient to Metro and walking distance to the Mall. First day took my teen to the roof top for supper, was like 5 pm and we had just landed. I looked at the menu and it said there were 3 kids meals, well we got there, ordered food and were then told by the manager that this was an adults only venue. My son says, "I've seen people drink beer before", so not sure why this was adults only. Adding to feeling kind of embarrassed we couldn't wait to leave but it took 45 minutes to get the burger.
