The Mayflower Hotel, Autograph Collection

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

Rubbing shoulders with the political bigwigs of Washington DC, The Mayflower is just a few blocks from the city’s most famous address, the White House. It’s a landmark in its own right though, welcoming guests for more than 90 years and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, its supersized and super-opulent marble lobby would befit any visiting statesman. Its dining venue would suit dignitaries too – EDGAR Bar & Kitchen is all edgy masculine styling, high-end drinks and cocktails, and American brasserie favourites with an upscale twist. Luckily, its fitness centre is open 24/7 to work off all the treats and tipples – although, you’re better off getting out and exploring all the landmarks, museums, and galleries within a stroll of your doorstep, from Smithsonian museums to world-class shopping magnets, or hopping on the subway just around the corner.Rubbing shoulders with the political bigwigs of Washington DC, The Mayflower is just a few blocks from the city’s most famous address, the White House.

The bones are old, but she still exudes LOTS of charm. Rooms are good-sized, beds are typical Marriott firm high-quality, and shower pressure is very good. No wait for hot water. Staff is friendly and helpful. Room rate is typical for downtown Washington DC, but restaurant is pricey.

Very nice- this is what you think of when you think "historic elegance." Staff was very attentive and helpful. The TV was the biggest I've ever seen in a room (multiply a 65 inch Samsung by however many rooms they have and I guess you start to realize why it's so expensive). But in all seriousness, the location was perfect and the price wasn't… Read more

The TV was the biggest I've ever seen in a room (multiply a 65 inch Samsung by however many rooms they have and I guess you start to realize why it's so expensive). But in all seriousness, the location was perfect and the price wasn't much more than a chain hotel would have been in the area so I can't complain too much about that. Bellboys don't bug you for tips, which is always nice and something I hate about upscale hotels. The room was fine- no view at all, it looked out into an inner courtyard, but I didn't pay for a view. The shower was clogged which made for a nice three inches of water when I showered, but we weren't there long enough for me to think it was worth it to complain. The bed was awesome- very comfortable. The hotel was also very quiet and I got great sleep. Read less

This hotel was a dream come true. The staff is lovely and the décor is too. It was great to have both the USA & the Hop on, Hop off tours pick you up here and the walk to St. Matthews Catholic Church was quite close. Would love to stay here again!

The hotel lobby is gorgeous and was beautifully decorated for the holidays. Check-in was quick and easy. We stayed on the 8th floor in a beautiful suite. The beds were very comfortable with crisp cool sheets and good pillows. The bathroom was spotless and had lots of marble with classic floor tile and a large backlit mirror plus a make-up mirror. Shower water pressure was excellent. The rooms were quiet; we did not hear our neighbors. We had great drinks at the very busy bar several times. While the drinks were great, service was mixed even sitting at the bar. Despite that minor inconvenience, I will definitely stay again. Read less

We stayed for three nights. The decor and quality of the rooms was superb. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The concierge area was a huge plus for a nice breakfast. Was not happy with paying $61.00 a night for parking and the fact that the bell staff had their hand out every time you turned around. The service in the hotel restaurant… Read more

Was not happy with paying $61.00 a night for parking and the fact that the bell staff had their hand out every time you turned around. The service in the hotel restaurant as well as the food was slow and did nothing for us. Read less
