I have stayed twice in this hotel during the last 6 months. After my last stay I'll look for something else the next time I visit DC. The overall impression is fairly big rooms with the amenities you expect, but somewhat worn and a service that is unreliable. Had to ask several times and control that my requests had been taken care of. Also strange that the hotel is unable to accommodate breakfast earlier than 0630. This is commonplace in most European I've stayed, especially considering many business travelers have early meetings or flights. Another bad experience was that a washing room was set up next to rooms, with washing machines running throughout the night and disturbing sleep. I asked the staff to refrain from running the machines at night. That worked four one night but then they were back on. Pros: Spacious rooms Comfortable beds (not too hard) Friendly staff Good location Cons: Unreliable and in some respects inflexible service Poor communication from staff, mixed messages Loud lobby, want to have a good conversation/casual meeting? Forget it Poor room planning, stay away from bottom floor if you don't want washing machines disturbing your sleep and view of the hotel's garbage disposal area. Read less

The location of the hotel (Foggy Bottom) is ideal for accessing many of DC's highlights, including walking to the GW campus and Georgetown. The rooms are well-appointed and comfortable and the staff seems truly intent on customer satisfaction. The bar and lounge are inviting and comfortable spaces and the breakfast was excellent with great options including fresh squeezed juices, several different types of eggs benedict and other enticing choices. From reservation through checkout/ follow-up, the hotel did everything right and I'm already planning my return visit. Read less

The Melrose is just slightly outside Georgetown but an easy walk there. We also walked to the mall/museums and the Kennedy Center. The staff is top notched, particularly Olena, who went above and beyond to welcome us (including a complimentary wine and cheese patter sent to our suite). I can't say enough about the Melrose. Read less

Arlene, very kindly, checked me in and worked with me to accommodate a late check out as the services were to take place mid-morning. It may seem simple, but Arlene’s kindness was really appreciated. Not having to stress about dealing with checking out, wheeling bags, etc. following the funeral services made all of the difference. In fact, every encounter with the staff there was pleasant. Always a smile. My room was perfect. Clean, comfortable, etc. I will definitely stay there again, if I am in the area and would absolutely recommend it to friends and tourists alike. Read less

We had a large room with separate sitting area, a fridge, huge wall mounted Tv and plenty of storage area. A small passageway to the bathroom with over bath shower. The rooms were very well decorated and scrupulously clean. The hotel had a small restaurant and bar in the lobby area with comfortable seats with access to tv if required. The staff were most helpful and very pleasant to deal with and had wonderful knowledge of the Georgetown area. Read less
