I'll sum up my one-night stay at the St. Regis with one word: Underwhelming. I have no real major complaints, but it certainly wasn't a five-star experience. My biggest gripe would be with the room itself.  I booked a Superior king room, using a free night certificate for being Platinum with Marriott.  With this status, one is entitled to a free suite upgrade when available.  The internet is littered with folks claiming that suites were available to book at this hotel before their check-in, but one was not offered.  I can't find a story of anyone who did receive this upgrade.  I didn't bother to check if one was available or not. The gentleman checking us in was pleasant enough, and friendly.  He asked if there was a special occasion, we mentioned we were celebrating an anniversary.  Due to that, and I guess not due to my Platimum status, he mentioned an upgrade was available to commemorate our occasion.   He asked how many keys we needed, I said one was fine; he handed me two keys.  He asked what I'd like as my welcome gift, points or breakfast, I chose breakfast.  A few minutes later, when I asked if there was anything special we needed for breakfast, he seemed confused and had put in that I wanted the points and that he would update.  Little things, no big deal, but not what I'd expect to kick off a visit to a 5-star hotel visit. I believe we were upgraded to the Grand Luxe room; the only difference is a slight increase in size.  We were told it was on a recently upgraded floor. The room was fine, but I wouldn't use any more positive words beyond that to describe it.  It really wasn't much different than the lower-level Marriott chains I've stayed in.  The bathroom was small, one room with two sinks, toilet and a small 3'x3' walk-in shower.  The heated toilet seat was a nice touch, but that's the only positive I could say about it. There is no refrigerator in the room, save for the stocked mini-bar.  That was upsetting to discover as I was looking to store the night's leftovers before taking them home and consuming them the next day. In 2024, I would expect in most decent hotels some sort of modernized entertainment available on the TV.  Winding down for the evening, we discovered that live cable TV was our only option; no way to log into Netflix or any other streaming service.  Heck, you can even do that at a Marriott Courtyard these days.  Certainly was a surprise considering the "recently updated floor". This was an interior room, so no view, except for another building across the way. I wish our breakfast experience in the morning would have wiped away all these minor annoyances, but alas, we were met with other minor issues during our meal.  The breakfast for elite status members includes several items, fruit, pastry, entree, juice and coffee.  We also ordered a signature bloody mary each, as we like to try the different ones at different St. Regis properties. We did not receive our juice, nor the fruit, and had to remind them to bring them.  The bloody mary was the big disappointment.  It seemed hastily put together, without garnishes (save the shrimp... which was good) and in a basic glass.  Not quite the presentation pictured online.   All-in-all, I'm glad I didn't pay for this room, so I guess we got our money's worth.  If I had paid for a luxury experience, I certainly would have been more disappointed. Had I been staying at a Courtyard, I wouldn't even mention any of these things.  But I expected more out of the St. Regis. Read less

Outstanding experience in DC. Excellent service from checkin through housekeeping. Excellent dining in Alhambra combined with meeting Chef Daniel and our waitstaff. Architecture is classic and well kept. Expensive but worth the price. Location is 2 blocks north of the White House is also outstanding .
