Hilton Washington DC Capitol

Washington DC, USA

Virgin rating

The hotel

On Capitol Hill, Hilton Washington DC Capitol has one of DC’s most desired addresses (besides the White House, of course). You're just steps from sights like the National Mall, Newseum, US Capitol Building, and Union Station – where the Amtrak brings New Yorkers into the very heart of the capital. It may be a sizeable hotel, giving you all the benefits that come with that (like complimentary WiFi and true value for money), but it is ‘boutiquey’ in spirit and style. Bistro 525 connects you with your setting too; with its mid-Atlantic menu created from local farm produce, and its bar featuring regional brews.

Upon my arrival, I checked in for a nine day stay and my room was NOT cleaned for four straight days. I was forced to call to the front desk and housekeeping on each of those days to apprise them and ask for linen. They would come to the room to verify and provide an excuse each time and then continued to ask if I had the Privacy tag on (which I… Read more
Upon my arrival, I checked in for a nine day stay and my room was NOT cleaned for four straight days. I was forced to call to the front desk and housekeeping on each of those days to apprise them and ask for linen. They would come to the room to verify and provide an excuse each time and then continued to ask if I had the Privacy tag on (which I did not). I am a frequent traveler so I asked if I needed to alert them that I wanted cleaning and they said no, but it certainly did not seem like it. They compensated me by offering a $40 food credit which was not applied to my final bill. Once I returned home, I called the Front Desk and asked for a manager for an entire week straight - left a voicemail message - and no to date - no response. I only stayed here because the Hyatt on the next block was booked. I fly into DC at least twice a month for rather long stays and I assure you I will NOT be back. The front desk staff are not in the right positions and they certainly should not be stationed in those jobs -- terrible customer service upon my arrival and departure. In fairness, the hotel is conveniently located to great sights and Union Station for food options. Additionally, the bar staff were very friendly and the gentlemen at the valet station were so helpful and professional. Read less

I have never written a hotel review before, but after staying at the Hilton Capitol Hill, I feel the need. It is conveniently located about a block from Union Station. I have never written a hotel review before, but after staying at the Hilton Capitol Hill, I feel the need. It is conveniently located about a block from Union Station. When we arrived, we were exhausted from being up since 4am, and were so happy to be able to check in early. And the man was incredibly nice. This definitely was a plus. Now for the all of the other good things about our room: 1. We chose a King Atrium room. There was virtually no noise whatsoever, which is huge for me because I have trouble staying asleep. 2. The room was very clean. VERY. It had a super comfortable bed and pillows. 3. We could actually adjust the temp in the room and weren't stuffy at night. Yay! 4. Mini-fridge! Not gonna lie, this was one of the deciding factors in my choosing this hotel...haha 5. USB charging ports beside the bed so all you need is your charging cord. 6. Well-planned bathroom. There are shelves and an outlet on the wall behind you when you stand at the bathroom sink on where you can spread all of your stuff. There is so much room in there. Also, when you shut the door, the angle is such that you can see the back of your hair and outfit. Super convenient when getting ready. It is a great hotel and a great value. I will totally stay there again when in Washington, DC. Read less

Comfortable stay. Room on 7th floor was fine, spacious, if a little tired around the edges, especially considering the prevailing room rates. Comfortable stay. Room on 7th floor was fine, spacious, if a little tired around the edges, especially considering the prevailing room rates. The desk arrangement is bizarre, with no plug sockets available. I eventually worked out that there was a removable wooden panel under the desk which allows access to one other socket, in addition to the one powering the desk lamp. Sadly my adapter was too large to allow for the lamp and my laptop to be plugged in at once. But a solitary (hidden) plug in 2024 feels…. Dated? There was a large conference going on during my stay, and one lift seemed to be out of service. These things happen, but it did make for some long waits to go up and down, and I could not find a staircase! Other reviews mention the fire station one block down. I did hear fire trucks but to be honest, this seemed no worse than staying in any hotel downtown in a major city. Food options in the vicinity are limited. If you don’t fancy the delights of Union Station, then the District Rico chicken place two blocks up is superb for take away or casual dine-in. Staff were consistently friendly and helpful, they allowed me early check in and stored my bag on my final day. I continue my one-man crusade for kettles in international hotels in the US, but recognise this is perhaps a niche issue! Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Worst breakfast experience

Had the breakfast buffet with my 11 year old daughter on Sunday 3/24. Very bad service (e.g., had to get coffee from the lobby, plates piling up) and food selection was very limited. For example no omelette station, no jam/honey etc. Yet they charged $34 per person plus tax. And would not let me pay with F&B credit earned during stay (Diamond… Read more

Human hair all over bathroom. Dust and generally unclean. No bathrobe, no slippers. Not extras at all. Real shame. The drinks are overpriced and the snack bar credit card machine was not working. Also the snack bar food and drink is also overpriced.
