Gray Wolf Inn at West Yellowstone

Montana, Wild West

The hotel

For most, the location of Gray Wolf Inn & Suites would be enough: just two blocks from the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park, you’re minutes from its famous natural attractions. But that didn't stop the owners giving the inn a $1.4 million makeover, with everything from the rooms to the swimming pool getting a facelift. Welcoming guests all year round, so you can see the region in every season, the inn’s spacious rooms and suites are popular with families. The complimentary parking means road trips are easy, although many West Yellowstone highlights are within strolling distance, with Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center just over the road, and Yellowstone Historic Center and Yellowstone IMAX Theatre two blocks away.

My husband and I recently stayed here while visiting Yellowstone National Park. Pros- about 5 minutes from the park entrance which was awesome. Walking distance from all the shops & restaurants- which was really nice not having to drive. It’s also right across the street from the Yellowstone Museum & Grizzly and Wold center (which I would recommend). It was very family oriented & the staff was very nice. Cons- Needs some updating. Paint was chipping on walls in some spots. Large stain on the carpet. The shower curtain spelled like mildew so definitely needed a new one. When we checked-out there was a $75 fee for “amenities” which we were not aware of. We may have just missed that in the hotel details. Overall the location is the best part. You cannot beat being right next to the park entrance & restaurant/shops. Read less

We arranged for a stay at Yellowstone in addition to our later trip to SD. We stayed at gray wolf again and it is a great place families as well as us. Clean, continental breakfast, and indoor pool.not to mention the natural resources nearby. We ate at bullwinkles (the food was great). We ate at Ernies and a local pancake house.

Pluses: modern hotel in good physical condition, breakfast is included, the coffee is very good compared to making it your room, an indoor swimming pool that is well maintained, plenty of parking. The frustrating: the internet is so slow that they would be better off advertising that they have no internet. The existing service is so slow, speeds need to be measured with a sun dial: less than 1 K download—when you can get it! No kidding! Be ready to tear your hair out. You can drive to New York and back and buy a copy of the Wall Street Journal or NY Times in the time it takes to download a page. I also find it lazy on the part of management not to protect their internet with a password that periodically changes. Anybody (are you reading this, Russian hackers?) can drive into the parking lot and, if motivated and technically savvy enough, put hotel guests identity at risk. (All the more reason to use a VPN when traveling). This is so EASY to fix! We got a room across from the gym which I should have included as a plus in that it is reasonably equipped but the noise and vibration made from the weight lifters slamming the weights to the floor like they just won an Olympic medal is annoying. The hotel should ditch the weights. They also need to clean the windows which haven’t been cleaned since they were installed. Looking out the windows now is like trying to read through an empty Coke bottle In summary, nice hotel that needs some operational tuneups Read less

Free ice cream every day and free smores every night! Breakfast is currently grab and go foods. Coffee and juice availible all day. Suite is nice! Had an extra counter, sink, and mirror outside the bathroom. Only complaint is housekeeping. We called 3 times before someone finally came and cleaned our room. Looked like others had the same issue because they would just leave piles of towels outside their room to get picked up. Overall great hotel, would stay again! Read less

The Gray Wolf Inn and Suites was a perfect place to stay while visiting West Yellowstone Montana. It's centrally located. It has a continental complimentary breakfast. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean! There is laundry on site as well as a pool and fitness room. Fun complimentary s'mores in the evening. Great way to end a day exploring Yellowstone! The hotel is literally minutes from the Yellowstone entrance. And you can hear the wolves howling at night from the Grizzly & Wolf Preserve which is right across the street. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Thanks for the cute Gray Wolf surprise! Read less
