This year has been horrible! My husband turned 50 this month and we were supposed to be on Maui. COVID-19 threw a wet blanket onto that. We, like other Californians, were so excited that the state opened in time for us to get out of the Bay Area and have a place to celebrate his big day and get a much needed change of scenery! Tenaya opened the week before and the cabins opened the day we got there. The cabin was great! It had 2 bedrooms one bath a sitting area and small kitchenette (minus a stove). The back deck faced a babbling creek. At night it was awesome for sleeping. I mention the Covid connection because not everything was perfect. Like the spa was closed, Cabin amenities were limited, and food and beverage options were also limited. We also found the meals inconsistent in terms of taste and quality — desperate need of salt. We were at Tenaya a year ago and the food was consistently excellent. So, we are extremely grateful to have had a great trip and a good birthday weekend and we’ll give the resort the benefit of the doubt and chalk this up to Covid-related issues. Read less

Only 2 people were working the desk and they apologized and pointed out that because of social distancing, they had to close a station. Later we noticed they had banquet rooms that are not being used. They should use one of those banquet rooms to spread people out and put more staff in place to handle a rush. If you are going to charge a premium price for your property, you should provide premium service. The other complaint, they charged a resort fee, and everything was closed except the pools.....no gym....no guided hikes.....no archery.....no rope courses....no climbing wall......Yet they still advertised those amenities on the TV's in the lobby....BTW we weren't the only people who had trouble at check in, the next day the line in the lobby to check in was worse than the day we checked in Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating What kind of vacation is it with no housekeeping during stay?

We were in the process of booking and were not told, up front, that there would be no housekeeping after check-in. The only option is to clean up myself. What kind of vacation is that...? We were in the process of booking and were not told, up front, that there would be no housekeeping after check-in. The only option is to clean up myself. What kind of vacation is that...? They didn't even mention this until I asked about it. I had read that Marriott had a similar policy BUT THAT IF DESIRED ONE COULD HAVE HOUSEKEEPING. There is no scientific reason for this policy. The latest science says that one can't catch the virus from surfaces. It is only spread in closed in, sustained contact with someone who has it. Most housekeeping occurs when the guests are not in the room. Therefore, there is no contact. They said they were just following CA guidelines, but there is absolutely nothing in those that a room cannot be made up. If that was true, they couldn't do the room before you arrive. Who wants to pay over $300/night do have this experience at the hotel? I think they are just trying to save money. I hope they change this policy right away. We had stayed here before and enjoyed out stay before the days of this virus. I understand the need for safety measures but when something doesn't make sense, they should admit it. Read less

We visited Tenaya Lodge shortly after Yosemite re-opened. The lodge is located immediately south of the Southern Entrance so its convenient to get to the National park in the morning. The check in process was a little less than delight. I understand that extra precautions were taken during the COVID pandemic, but the experience falls short of expectation. The check in staff basically wipes everything after each guest check in, which was great but I happened to be assigned to a front desk staff that I assume was still in training. We had a family of five so thought about requesting a larger room instead. Therefore, I checked the official site for vacancy and it showed that plenty rooms were still available. However, the check in staff mentioned that due to COVID, they’re not allowed to make any room changes and only operate at 25% capacity. Explanation accepted but not satisfied because the website still shows rooms available. After I get the keys to the room, the same staff explained to me that our room was in East wing and circled it on the premise map, but in fact the room was in the west wing so we had to drag our luggage around for another 20 minutes before we were able to the room. The room is very well cleaned but almost all amenities removed to reduce touch surfaces. Again, understood but not satisfied. We have booked the premier room with two queen beds, just barely large enough for two adults and three kids. If the kids were a bit older, the extended room would probably be a better choice. The property is beautifully surrounded by the forest. There are many facilities including an outdoor children’s adventure zone. Unfortunately, the only facility that was open was the restaurant. A bit disappointed but understood the situation. On the other hand, we can see how easily we can spend a few days here while the kids were enjoying themselves all around the property. Room service is available but you have to pick up the food from the lobby, so it’s more of a take out service rather then room service as they call it. The food were actually very decent. We ordered the wings, the ribeye and the chicken peipei. The overall experience is acceptable under the circumstances, but we can see that we would choose to return when all facilities are open in the future. Read less
