The hotel

Tenaya Lodge’s setting takes some beating — bordering the Sierra National Forest and set on 75 stunning acres, it’s surrounded by nature. The hotel has plenty of activities, including a choice of trails and a guided walk to a hidden waterfall. Grab your hiking boots, or maybe a mountain bike, and head out to explore. At the end of the day, take a dip in the outdoor pool, get a s’mores kit and sit around the outdoor fire pits, or grab your torch and head out on a night hike. I just returned from our annual Christian Women's Retreat, and was just as impressed as ever with both the facilities and the service. As one of the only exhibitors, my allocated space is in the huge foyer between the ballroom and other meeting rooms. The staff had my tables all set up well before I arrived, and were very prompt and cheerful about providing anything else I needed. Personally, I have never met any employee at Tenaya Lodge who was anything less than very pleasant, from the bellhops and cleaning staff to the check-in staff to the banquet coordinator, food service staff, and concierge. The rooms I have stayed in over the past 10-15 years have always been clean, comfortable, and nicely furnished. This year was no exception. When an extra cot was needed, the staff have done their best to provide it (sometimes they may have a shortage if our group grows to 400-500 women!). The entire resort has a High Sierra mountain cabin feel, from the cozy fire burning in the huge fireplace to the beautiful photographs of Yosemite, to the gift shop, and beyond. Though I've never had time to use the indoor or outdoor pool, hot tub or spa, I have spent an enjoyable hour or two in the exercise room. One of the maintenance crew even taught me how to play pool! Fun. :) A few months ago I accompanied my husband to Tenaya for meetings he was attending. Our group spent an enjoyable evening at the Summerdale BBQ. There were age-appropriate activities for the children (face painting, coloring activities, and more), live music, smores packets for everyone to toast their marshmallows over the campfire, and a delicious meal. After dark, they had arranged for an amateur astronomer to be available up on the hotel deck, and among other planets or constellations, he was able to point out the international space station and even Saturn with its rings! My only regret is that Tenaya Lodge apparently no longer offers sleigh rides. The year my daughter treated our family to sleigh rides to and from a campfire with hot cocoa, we all had a great time. Maybe they no longer get enough snow consistently in the winter to justify keeping the sleigh rides going. Sad. The concierge can make a variety of special arrangements. On my previous visit I went on a guided hike through the forest. I happened to be the only "customer" and had both a regular guide and a trainee guide. Both were very friendly, and I had a great hike. I learned a few things about nature in the Sierras, and even taught my guides a couple things they didn't know from my years out in nature. Since Tenaya Lodge is quite close to the entrance to Yosemite National Park, it is a good destination on its own or a stopping-off place on your way into the park. Read less

It was actually a few years since we have stayed there but we will be back before too long. They had a horse drawn carriage ride that was a hug plus, really fun, I even got to feed one of the horses snow. They have a hill for the kids to slide down in their sleds, great for families. And the adults have a nice bar to warm up with kicked up coffee. We had a power outage when we were there that seemed not very organized, it was so dark we couldn't see anything and there wasn't any emergency lights that came on, not even in the hallways, but we survived. Overall it was a fun trip and it was a great winter vacation. Read less

I was also expecting a lot more, particularly what we paid for. The outdoor fireplaces were nice and good way to meet people. The general store down the road is a must visit, even if for just a chat. Originally when we booked the hotel, we went through a reservation center. The reservation center didn’t communicate thoroughly and left out some important details that could have determined the outcome of our New Year’s eve. Because of all the lodge has to offer we chose this hotel. I try to remedy the situation by calling the hotel prior to but didn’t receive a call back until three days later which did not help since we were already checked in. Fortunately, upon arrival Lyndsey at the front desk made it all better! Her customer service was excellent and she was really compassionate to our situation. She more than made up for our initial frustration. Monte, the concierge, also took charge and provided a good solution in order for our children to partake in all the festivities Tanaya Lodge has to offer for their fantastic New Year’s party. Much gratitude goes out to the staff for making our stay a memorable one. The beds could have been more comfortable, and the walls more sound proof to have a better nights sleep, but we are spoiled at home with those comforts, so those are just a couple things the lodge can improve on if I had to point out improvements. There is plenty to do for the whole family and great overall service if you want an excellent place to stay while visiting the beautiful Yosemite National park Read less

The lodge and it’s entire staff( from parking to turn down service) was par excellance. The excursion we booked through concierge was exactly what they promoted ( which isn’t always the case at some hotels and resorts) we had a small group and an amazing guide who told us of the history and stories about Yosemite and the lodge. The food in the hotel restaurant was prepared and served with care. Super fun and friendly staff but also respected your privacy and so romantic meals were easy to enjoy. I want to go back! There is still so much to experience in Yosemite and Tenaya Lodge is the best place to make Base Camp( in style ) Read less
