Sheraton Anchorage

Anchorage, Alaska

The hotel

There’s no mistaking your setting when you stay at Sheraton Anchorage Hotel & Spa — it embraces everything magical about the Alaskan wilderness and everything exciting about downtown Anchorage, with attractions like Anchorage Museum and 5th Avenue Mall just blocks away. It’s like staying in a glamourous museum, with native Alaskan art giving you a real insight into local life at every turn. And, at the heart of it all, the hotel’s spectacular ‘Million Dollar Staircase’ is dressed in marble and jade, and frames a panel telling the Eskimo legend of an eagle that flew a native hunter from the Earth to the moon. You don’t have to fly far for food though, with JADE open for breakfast treats like Alaskan King Crab Benedict, Ptarmigan Lounge serving cocktails and bar bites, a Starbucks® kiosk, and a 24-hour ‘pantry’ for late-night munchies.

Shared a room here for two nights. The room had two doubles but only one chair and little room for luggage. Room was clean. A good, friendly maid. But there was nothing special about the hotel or experience. And the price was rather high. And the location is a half mile from the main parts of downtown. I will probably stay elsewhere next trip.

This hotel is remodeled and the changes are okay. It is on one edge of downtown, walking distance to great restaurants and shopping. I had some issues with the cleanliness of the hotel because I could tell they didn’t vacuum between guests. I found another person’s toe nail clippings on the carpet when I checked into my room. That is just about the grossest thing I’ve seen in a hotel! I stayed a week and noticed that housekeeping never removed the vacuum from their cart, which confirmed my theory about the failure to vacuum. Also, I checked in about 9 pm and called down to the front desk to see about places to eat in the area and nobody ever answered the phone. Then at breakfast, the server spilled coffee on my seat while I was up at the buffet and walked off and left it. When I asked her to clean it up she took a wet towel used to clean the tables to wipe it up. So, I was left with a wet seat. When I asked for a new chair she gave me major attitude, which was really embarrassing in front of my coworkers. Then, she left a huge pitcher of orange juice in front of my coworker, right where his plate was supposed to go. He sat there and waited for her to come back and get it, which took her forever. Overall, gives me a meh feeling about this hotel - the service and the toenail clippings, I’m sure there are better places to stay in Anchorage. Read less

It’s 1045 pm. The room I have reserved is not ready. That’s unacceptable. The folks in the bar and the front desk staff are very friendly, but ....really? How is it that an advance room reservation isn’t available at almost 11pm?

A big hotel, well located although I am not sure any hotel in Anchorage is stunning. Parking was good and we were not charged for that. The bar is slightly odd and lacking in choice or sophistication but having been based here for four days it was more than an adequate base to tour out from.

We spent six total nights here on a recent trip with two on the front end, one in the middle, and two at the end of our trip. We had problems with our keys everyday. We spent six total nights here on a recent trip with two on the front end, one in the middle, and two at the end of our trip. We had problems with our keys everyday. The first three nights of our stay we had no room cleaning services. When we called and asked for towels. We received some toiletries and one towel. I had to ask for another explaining my husband and I needed more. Housekeeping did not return. Our keys never worked and when we left the room we had to go downstairs to ask to have new keys. Our last two nights there, the hotel front desk kept giving our keys to our room so random people would come in. When I went downstairs to check on the second day, they did not even have us registered. With those issues behind us, the room was clean and nice and by far one of the best beds I have ever slept on. The lobby is beautiful and comfortable. The hotel bar has a great seafood chowder for a reasonable price and most everyone is friendly. One staff member. Melanie, was the best! She was knowledgeable and helpful. Anytime she was on shift everything was correct! I wasn’t able to try to spa because every single time nothing was available-even if I called ahead. Read less
