Activity holidays

Adventure like no other: Activity holiday highlights

Holidays are all about slowing down, relaxing, and spending a couple of weeks just doing nothing right? Wrong! Holidays are all about having adventures, meeting new people, and doing things you love, in some of the world’s top spots. So strap on your flippers, grab your snowboard, and pump up those mountain-bike tyres, because we’re off on a whistle-stop tour of some of the best activity holidays in the world!

Adventure holidays for everyone

We don’t expect you to be Bear Grylls. Sure, you can camp under the stars in some of the USA’s most amazing National Parks, or be a castaway on a desert island. But with our activity holidays, you do it in style. Which means adventures all day long, and top quality hotels to relax in at night.

Are you a family of thrill seekers and action adventurers? If so, we’ve got plenty of family activity holidays too, so everyone can join in. Take the little ones on their first snowy ski trip, or splash around in the warm seas of the Caribbean.

If you’re a real beach bum who simply cannot tear yourself away from silky-soft sands and azure blue seas, we’ve got some beach activity holidays that’ll involve much more than just lying around on a sun lounger all day.

So where do you want to go? Let’s start as we mean to go on, with adventure holidays in the Caribbean...

We’ll set the scene – you’ve got premium quality hotels and resorts, where everything is taken care of for you, glorious beaches, and wall-to-wall sunshine in a tropical paradise. Not enough for you? Okay, how about:

  • BodyHoliday St Lucia – this wellness resort pampers your soul as well as your body with a huge range of activities. Find inner peace with yoga on the beach, shake your booty with some dance lessons, and discover the underwater wonders with some scuba diving.
  • Jewel Paradise Cove Jamaica – A perfect destination for anyone who just can’t sit still, with golf, tennis, beach football, volleyball, and a ton of water sports on offer.
  • Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas – this is one of our very favourite resorts for family activity holidays. Go mad in the Aquaventure waterpark, where the little darlings can burn off all that energy while you chill out and relax.

Activities in the Caribbean

  • Water sports - take a look at the depths below on a scuba-diving expedition, jump aboard a kayak for a leisurly exploration or crank up the speed with a hobie cat lesson
  • Yoga retreats - relax and unwind at one of the many yoga retreats to return home refreshed and revitalised
  • Golf - with some of the best courses in the world, you'll be spoilt for choice in the Caribbean, a golfers dream!
  • Land sports - football, volleyball and tennis to name but a few land sports you can enjoy

Summer activities

Make sure you’ve packed tee-shirts and swimwear for these activity holidays, because these are our top picks for summer fun.

  • Whistler – The Fairmont Chateau Whistler sits at the base of the incredible Blackcomb Mountain, giving you luxury accommodation and that amazing Canadian wilderness experience, all rolled into one. During the summer this is a Mecca for outdoorsy types, with downhill biking, hiking, paddle-boarding and ziplines all designed to get your pulse racing. Then chill out with a yoga session. Not sure what to do? Talk to their Experiences Guide who’ll be able to tell you what’s on offer every day.
  • Banff – the amazing Moose Hotel & Suites are an adventure lover’s dream, with activities to keep everyone off the couch and in the fresh air. Try hiking, biking, paddle-boarding, and canoeing. Then, when you’ve had enough, ease your aching muscles in the region’s hot springs. Ahhh, that’s better.
  • Tofino, Vancouver Island – fancy hanging ten in Canada? You don’t have to head to Hawaii to ride a tube or catch a sweet right-hand break — you can go surfing right here in Canada. The Best Western Tin Wis sits on the shore of Mackenzie Beach, one of the Pacific’s top surfing spots.
  • Churchill – Summer Tour – summer adventure holidays in the Arctic? This has to be the ultimate for thrill seekers looking for something a little different. The Ultimate Arctic Summer Adventure sets off in July, and you can add on optional excursions to swim or kayak with Beluga whales, as well as going to see polar bears (from a safe distance, of course – those guys are big!).

Activities in Canada

  • Biking and hiking - feel the wind in your hair and breathe in the fresh air in the stunning mountainous terrain of Canada
  • Skiing - powder-perfect snow, clear, blue skies and seemingly endless sunshine, Canada is world-famous for its skiing
  • Water sports - paddle-boarding, kayaking, canoeing, the list goes on! But with rivers, lakes and the open ocean to choose from, the possibilities are endless
  • Ziplining - no trip to Canada is complete without an exhilarating ziplining experience over some of the most beautuful scenery.

We could do a whole page on activity holidays in the USA, but that’d mean you wouldn’t see anything else. So (briefly), what can you do in the good old

  • Horse riding – the West was won on horseback, and herds of mustangs (no, not the cars!) still roam the plains of the mid-west today. Polish up your spurs, grab your ten-gallon hat, and saddle up for a trek across deserts, mountains and through canyons, with views that’ll take your breath away.
  • Surf’s up! – everybody’s gone surfing in the USA, with the West Coast offering some of the sweetest breaks in the world at hotspots like Huntington BeachSanta Cruz, and the awesome Pismo Beach. All these top surfing spots are within easy reach of Los Angeles and San Diego, so you can combine hanging ten with a tour of Hollywood in one trip.
  • If you’re not a surfer then hop on a bicycle and cycle along Venice Beach, or go hiking in the Sierra Nevada. California is the home of stand-up paddle-boarding, so why not try something a little more relaxing on the water?

Got the kids with you? Not a problem, because Orlando has adventures for all ages. Florida’s theme parks aren’t just filled with photo opportunities with Mickey and the gang, but also have rides, water parks, and a huge range of experiences so you can create the perfect family activity holidays in the Sunshine State.

  • Horse riding - trail-riding and ranches are plentiful in the USA, so grab your hat and cowboy boots and saddle up!
  • Surfing - West Coast USA offers some of the most famous surf in the world, whether you are a beginner or a pro, you'll love surfin' USA
  • Theme parks - Orlando, the theme park hub of the world offering fun and laughter for all ages
  • Cycling - L.A's Venice Beach is were it's at for celebrity spotting and scenic cycling

You might still need to pack your swimwear for the après ski soak in a hot tub, but if your idea of adventure holidays involves a lot of sliding around on sticks down the sides of mountains then we’ve got some of the world’s top ski resorts for you to check out.

  • Banff – Canada’s premier ski resort manages to pack in cool winter sports and hot springs for the ultimate winter activity holidays. Check out the Fox Hotel & Suites for great mountain views, or the Fairmont Banff Springs for those amazingly restorative hot spring soaks.
  • Whistler – Canadians love skiing and snowboarding, but at Whistler you’ve got the rather aptly-named Sliding Centre too, where you can try your hand at tobogganing or the Skeleton, as well as zip lines that’ll have you whizzing through the landscape. Our top hotel picks are the Coast Blackcomb Suites and the Fairmont Chateau.
  • Tremblant – sitting between Lac Tremblant and Lac Miroir, our favourite spot is the Ermitage Du Lac, a premium quality boutique hotel just yards from the ski lifts. Perfection!

Fancy some activity holidays abroad but not sure where to start? Check out some of our action-packed hotels from around the world. It's time to get out there!

Thank you for your patience and understanding

Payments are being prioritised based on when the request was made, working in order from March 2020 onwards. We will always try to process refunds at the earliest opportunity, for requests before August our maximum timeframe is 120 days. As we are steadily reducing the maximum processing time for each new request, for refund requests made in August, we expect the maximum processing time to be 80 days, from the date the refund is requested. For those requesting a refund in September, we expect it to be processed within a maximum of 60 days, and then reduce to 30 days for refunds requested in October, before returning to normal levels.

We'll be in touch soon

To finalise the amendment, one of our customer advisors will phone you. We need to work through amend requests in departure date order so we can prioritise those with the most imminent travel plans, so you may have a longer wait than usual until we’re able to ring you back. We will help everyone that wants to move their holiday.

I returned early from holiday and have further questions?

You can contact our team by emailing to discuss options on unused portions of your holiday. If you need to contact our team about amending an existing holiday or requesting a refund please log in to manage my booking.
