The hotel and beach is beautiful - what made our stay so outstanding was the welcoming attitude of most of the staff. This was our first stay at an all inclusive and it was SUCH a relaxing carefree way to celebrate our anniversary, reconnect with each other, and enjoy life. The rooms are spacious, the hotel decor, the grounds, and the pools are beautiful - but what we will most remember are the smiling welcomes (seen even though all were masked) by staff. A few that stand out are Fernando, the beach concierge - who helped us settle into just the right chairs; Oscar, the server at the Oceana restaurant, who rightly said "his restaurant is the best", Talia, the concierge, who thoughtfully followed up and made our anniversary so memorable with special decor and a romantic breakfast delivered to our room. Snorkeling at the beach in front of the hotel is amazing. We visited Yal Ku lagoon for more snorkeling, and the Monkey Sanctuary. Both were fun ways to change it up a bit, and in venturing to both those places, we discovered the small downtown, shopping adjacent to Akumal beach, and an awesome place for ceviche - Pescado's, which is a super cute small restaurant with outdoor seating, cold beers, and fresh fish. Clearly the locals love it too. Secrets is fun - there are daily drink specials featured, a variety of food and restaurant choices, live entertainment most evenings, lots of activities or just relaxing if you choose. Best restaurants were Marketplace for breakfast, Oceana and Seascape (?) for dinner. There's no need to wear wristbands. Security graciously monitors the beach to ensure the guests are entering the property. We felt secure in their health standards, as all the staff wore masks, social distancing was encouraged, and hand sanitizers were both available and offered frequently. We truly relaxed and enjoyed ourselves and plan to return. It was one of those experiences that made it hard to adjust back to reality! Read less

First, I will say that this was a first time stay at an all-inclusive for both me and my husband. We are big cruisers normally. Since cruising was not an option, we decided to try out an AI instead. Overall, our stay was good and we had a relaxing 7 day stay. But, I wouldn't say that it was anything mind blowing. Maybe our expectations were too high given all of the 5 star reviews? The PROS: ---Service was generally good. There were some workers who went out of their way to make sure the guests were satisfied and happy. Others, not so much. And, the waiters at the sit down dinner restaurants were very attentive. Our building concierge, Araceli (sp?) and David and Fernando at the beach deserve special recognition. ---The shows are fun and entertaining for the most part. But, they were not as elaborate or coordinated as what you would see on a cruise ship. ---Hotel property is absolutlely gorgeous. The grounds were immaculate and beautiful. Our room was kept spotless. But, the minibar didn't get filled several days that we were there and we had to ask for the snacks. ---The Bali beds by the beach were nice. But, if you're already paying extra for the Preferred Package, you shouldn't have to pay extra to reserve one. (They are $55/day if you reserve one on the 1st or 2nd row). We received excellent service while we had the Bali bed. However, a couple of feet over at the regular lounge chairs the waiters and waitresses were hard to find. It seemed like there was only 1-2 working a huge section at a time. So, we mostly ended up going up to the bar ourselves to get drinks. ---The Coco Cafe was nice to have for that afternoon coffee and snack. ---The spa was pricey; but I enjoyed the treatments. And the spa employees were very friendly and tried their hardest to make sure that I was enjoying my time there. The CONS: ---The "private" check in is in the preferred lounge - which is a couple of buildings away from the main lobby. They sit you down at a table in the middle of a room filled with other people and then proceed to rush through the check in while throwing information at you about the resort. After that, they try to pressure you into going to the "welcome breakfast" which is nothing more than a sales pitch to buy into their vacation club. After we turned down the invitation to the breakfast, they kept trying to pressure us into going. After we refused several times, the person became very short with us. This was one of my main complaints about the resort. They need to have a tour or short walk through of the resort for first timers that does not involve a sales pitch. ---The food was only ok. Everyone else raves about it. So, we were really expecting a 5 star, gourmet experience. The presentation of the dinner dishes was what you would find in a fancy restaurant - small portions, plated well, etc. But, the choices were limited, especially at lunch and especially for someone with food allergies. My husband enjoyed the pizza by the pool. By the end of the stay, I just wanted a plain, house salad (which was nowhere to be found). The closest I could get was a Caesar salad. Even then, the one from room service came as three big leaves of romaine lettuce with some cheese and dressing on top. Read less

Tables sanitized before sitting down. Felt extremely safe! Felt like walking through the Garden of Eden going to breakfast. Service a little slow at times. Government only allowed so many workers per department. Hotel at only 30% capacity. Our room was huge with giant whirlpool bath. Pools should have been cleaned more often. Bottom of pools green.
