Cap Maison

St Lucia, Caribbean

The hotel

At the tip of the island, the former sugar plantation that is now St Lucia’s Cap Estate is blessed with unparalleled panoramic views of where Caribbean Sea meets Atlantic Ocean. The boutique resort of Cap Maison makes the very best of these views and is designed to feel as if you are visiting your own private Caribbean residence. For dining with a view look no further than the award-winning destination restaurant, Cliff at Cap, with an innovative French West Indies fusion menu. It’s strategically placed atop the Cliff with a sunset lookout for happy hour cocktails. The pool adjacent to the restaurant enjoys the same views from its sun deck and there is an adjacent secluded beach cove appropriately named The Naked Fisherman beach restaurant. Take the 90 steps down to the sand and you’ll find a rustic beach bar serving up lunch time grills, freshly squeezed juices and wonderful rum concoctions. Kayaks, snorkels and Hobie cats are complimentary to guests or you can take some tuition for a fee. Spa Maison and the fitness centre are available for further rejuvenating body and mind; on hand there is a pilates/yoga instructor and a fitness trainer to lead morning jogs across the estate. The Cap Estate’s rolling hills have also become home to the 18-hole St Lucia Golf & Country Club. Guests at Cap Maison benefit from concessionary golf at this beautiful and challenging championship course which extends virtually from the Caribbean to the Atlantic coastlines (a complimentary shuttle takes approximately 5 minutes).

We stayed at cap maison over the new year period The hotel is styled in a very traditional Spanish style and had beautiful manicured gardens Rooms were large and airy and the cliff restaurant did serve delicious food that couldn’t be faulted Staff were charming and all in all we really enjoyed these elements of our stay An important part of the criteria in selecting this hotel was that we also wanted a great Caribbean beach which we were led to believe, through images and our agent, that cap maison provided Unfortunately cap maison didn’t deliver on this one aspect Photos of the resort are deceptive only where the beach is concerned To access the beach there are 92 steps down -this wouldn’t be a problem if once down there the facilities lived up to the rest of the hotel The beach is quite small with rocks at either end -again not a problem except it’s shaded until after lunch leaving a gloomy damp feel about it .Beach loungers are in poor and broken condition -not like the loungers around the pool which were comfy and well maintained There don’t seem to be any beach staff helping move loungers into the sun-ie moving from one end of the beach to the other -not what one would expect from this standard of hotel When we visited there were discarded plastic cups and rubbish littering the beach which could easily have been cleaned up but weren’t There were a couple of hobie cats for guests but not sign of any rescue boat if guests went out too far (we watched people struggling to bring the hobies back into the bay ) This seems highly dangerous and irresponsible in this day and age Overall the feeling was that this had no relationship with the hotel above and to this extent spoilt our holiday as it was something we were very much looking forward to Having stayed in similar priced hotels all over the Caribbean it’s a shame that cap maison don’t feel it necessary to upgrade the beach facilities .They need to keep up with the competition They could easily have turned a good holiday into a great one that we’d have wanted to return to Read less

We were recommended this hotel for our Honeymoon from my travel agent who took care of everything and worked with Cap Maison to take care of everything. This was a surprise to my wife, she didn’t know where we were going until we got to the connection in Atlanta. After a private SUV set up by the hotel with a bottle of champagne for the ride to the north end of the island, we arrived about 2 hours after touching ground in St. Lucia. Upon arrival we had the best encounter with the front office staff, who explained everything we would be able to do that was apart of our package for the duration of our stay. When we got to our villa, with a bottle of champagne on ice awaiting us in the room, the staff showed us around the entire villa and explained if we needed anything at all to please let them know. We stayed for a week and had nothing but amazing experiences from breakfast every morning (best breakfast ever) to casual lunch and dinner at The Naked Fisherman to more elegant and formal dining at The Cliff at Cap. Everything was designed for an amazingly relaxing honeymoon/vacation and we will be going back! Would also recommend the Helicopter trip back to the main airport which you can schedule through the front desk! 11 minutes to the airport! Read less

The food was delicious, the staff was always friendly and helpful, and the beach was absolutely beautiful. The resort had everything you need to relax as well as plenty of activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, etc. I would recommend renting a car as it was about an hour and half drive from the airport but we enjoyed being able see different parts of the island and take a quick trip into Rodney Bay a few times.
