Cap Maison

St Lucia, Caribbean

The hotel

At the tip of the island, the former sugar plantation that is now St Lucia’s Cap Estate is blessed with unparalleled panoramic views of where Caribbean Sea meets Atlantic Ocean. The boutique resort of Cap Maison makes the very best of these views and is designed to feel as if you are visiting your own private Caribbean residence. For dining with a view look no further than the award-winning destination restaurant, Cliff at Cap, with an innovative French West Indies fusion menu. It’s strategically placed atop the Cliff with a sunset lookout for happy hour cocktails. The pool adjacent to the restaurant enjoys the same views from its sun deck and there is an adjacent secluded beach cove appropriately named The Naked Fisherman beach restaurant. Take the 90 steps down to the sand and you’ll find a rustic beach bar serving up lunch time grills, freshly squeezed juices and wonderful rum concoctions. Kayaks, snorkels and Hobie cats are complimentary to guests or you can take some tuition for a fee. Spa Maison and the fitness centre are available for further rejuvenating body and mind; on hand there is a pilates/yoga instructor and a fitness trainer to lead morning jogs across the estate. The Cap Estate’s rolling hills have also become home to the 18-hole St Lucia Golf & Country Club. Guests at Cap Maison benefit from concessionary golf at this beautiful and challenging championship course which extends virtually from the Caribbean to the Atlantic coastlines (a complimentary shuttle takes approximately 5 minutes).

We spent October 2020 half term at Cap Maison and simply can’t recommend it highly enough. The weather was a little mixed - we had some gorgeous, clear hot days and some days with a lot of rain - but this really didn’t reduce our enjoyment. We were pinching ourselves when we were upgraded from our booked room with a hot tub and ocean view to two rooms with a private pool and the most incredible ocean view. All of the staff were lovely, brilliant and great with the children. We went for the All Inclusive package and were glad we did. Worth knowing that the kids could order from the children’s menu or the adult’s menu (depending on what they fancied) at no additional cost. The food was all delicious - Cliff at the Cap for yummy breakfast options and dinner was abundant fine dining (have never previously had an All Inclusive meal include amuse bouche and palate cleanser courses!) and the Naked Fisherman for delicious lunch. The kids particularly liked the mocktail menu - banana/passion fruit daiquiris were the favourites! The hotel is a wonderful mix - it has a lovely atmosphere, vibe and family friendly feel but still feels really private and the right amount of quiet. The pools are great - we really liked the main pool. You can always get loungers - and they’re very comfy. The beach is gorgeous - the steep steps marginally reduced the guilt of the inevitable overeating! - body boarding and crab spotting is a must. The wildlife through the resort is beautiful - amazing birds, geckos, crabs, turtles, frogs - not to mention the various hotel cats (Davison even has his own Instagram page) who we loved. The hotel has recently reopened given coronavirus and the various COVID safe measures it has implemented are clear - on top of all the measures in place before you can even get entry to the island, the hotel has regular guest temperature checks, table service, social distancing signage, hand sanitising stations and mask wearing. This was hugely comforting as we had pushed ourselves out of our comfort zone after months of (basically) shielding to take a much needed holiday. We genuinely felt like we could basically forget about coronavirus for a week - a huge privilege which isn’t lost on us. In summary, Cap Maison is a beautiful, family friendly, foodie-heaven oasis which we feel very very lucky to have experienced in these weird times. Read less

As a result we were moved here for the one night before we flew home, all I can say to the staff is thanks, you made us very welcome. We were assigned a ground floor garden view room, if we were to come here again I would choose a room with more of a view. The room itself was great, well stocked with all the necessities even a fridge with drinks and snacks. Our 1 evening meal in the main restaurant was superb, great views while still light. The beach is 92 steps down from the hotel, which sounds a lot but was not too bad, quite a small beach with a bar and toilets, sun beds were available and the bar staff bought us chilled water in an ice bucket. Great hotel/staff and location. Thanks again. Read less

The staff goes to great lengths to take exceptional care of guests and because there were some openings, they event let us pay a little more to upgrade our room for the last two nights of our visit. I highly recommend doing the Cap-It All Inclusive which includes all meals, drinks, alcohol, etc - truly all inclusive. I suggest this because there is really no reason to leave Cap Maison. We toured other parts of the island and were fairly unimpressed to be honest - Cap Maison has a gorgeous beach with The Naked Fisherman there for lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks. There is kayaking, sailing, swimming, everything you need. On the main property are two swimming pools to choose from as well as some rooms come with their own pools. The concierge can recommend and make a number of tour recommendations for you, and you can even do your own rum tasting in their cellar at Cap Maison! The other restaurant - The Cliff - serves a wonderful breakfast and is also available for lunch and dinner. Cannot recommend it enough, stay here!! Read less

I am so grateful that my husband and I had the chance to visit St. Lucia before the coronavirus outbreak got worse. Our stay at Cap Maison was really great overall. GROUNDS / AMENITIES The grounds are beautiful and the amenities were incredible. We really appreciated the complimentary towels and the super comfortable chairs near the pool and the floating sunbeds on the beach. THE STAFF The staff is also very kind. We really loved Syrill (I may be spelling his name incorrectly), who we had lengthy conversations with near the pool almost every day. The staff at Cliff at the Cap also went out of their way for me in getting me a piece of aloe plant to soothe some sandfly bites I got. Housekeeping was incredible, bringing water every day and ensuring our room was always in tip-top shape. We also did the wine tasting in the cellar, which I highly, highly recommend. The wine cellar was so cute and the wines and food alike were delicious. Great experience and one I think is rare at most resorts! FOOD The food was the best we've ever had at a resort - we had one of the best burgers we've ever had (saying a lot since we're from Chicago, a big foodie city) at The Naked Fisherman and really enjoyed all the breakfasts and dinners we had at Cliff at the Cap. I will say that the meals were VERY expensive, but we knew that going in. ROOMS Unfortunately, we had problems with our room. We stayed in a junior suite and really loved the spaciousness of it. The problem is that there is only A/C in the bedroom so the bathroom got very, very hot. I'd love to see Cap Maison add a unit to the bathroom to alleviate this problem. We also noticed that there were some more open-air windows where mosquitoes could get through. We, unfortunately, had a mosquito problem the majority of our stay. We'd wake up to mosquitoes IN our mosquito net and discovered many bites every morning. It would be great if Cap Maison could enclose all windows to avoid this and do more spraying throughout the week (except only two times a week). BEWARE My first night, I was bitten by sandflies when eating at Cliff at the Cap. I had over 60 bites on my legs and had to deal with itching and being uncomfortable the entire week I was in St. Lucia unfortunately. Do NOT wear any lotion/perfume while at the resort and make sure to always spray yourself with bug spray before entering outside (including during the day-time) - that was my mistake. Thank you, Cap Maison, for an incredible stay and vacation. We fell in love with St. Lucia and your resort was a big reason why. We cannot wait to come back someday! Read less

I took time to carefully choose a hotel that would suit my needs for my St Lucia visit. We liked the look of Cap Maison for its location, the good service reviews and it being denoted for good food. The location is wonderful but exploration on foot outside of the resort is not practical. The room was lovely with a view onto the small resort beach. However, Cap Maison pitches itself with a top end restaurant -- The Cliff - and charges accordingly - approx USD $300 for a 2 course dinner for 2 with one bottle of wine, but, the food ranged from unpleasant to inedible and we resorted to self service due to inept staff. We tried the restaurant several times (due to lack of choice) and can say gloopy salty risottos tasted nothing of the stated ingredients, over seasoned fish killing all flavour, vinaigrettes making salads inedible. Missing items from orders, food always cold. When raising the matter with staff, no action taken. We did not have one pleasant tasting breakfast on our 6 night stay. The resort has to deliver a product to meet its top end positioning and failed badly in this respect. Read less
