Casa Marina Resort & Beach Club, Waldorf Astoria

Key West, Florida Keys

The hotel

Opened New Year's Eve 1920, Casa Marina Resort is Key West’s original grand resort! After a $45 million dollar renovation, Casa Marina became part of the Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts. Boasting a dramatic 'water walk' that leads to the resort's two largest swimming pools and the largest private beach in Key West, Casa Marina Resort is a tranquil oasis close enough to the action of Duval Street. Offered on-site is a booking centre for world-class diving, fishing and boating. Casa Marina also has the largest fitness facility in Key West, allowing you to work off those holiday indulgences! Guest rooms at Casa Marina Resort are contemporary in style with whitewashed walls, textured tile floors and dark tropical hardwoods — a great place to retire to at the end of a busy day seeing the sights. For dining the hotel’s Sun Sun restaurant and bar, an open-air wood pavilion overlooking the pools and beach, great for those seeking a casual atmosphere and plenty of that Floridian sun!! And as if all this wasn't enough, you can take advantage of the facilities at the sister property, The Reach, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, one block away.

This place is an absolute joke. This is a 200 Hotel on its best day. Even the employees laugh at what a pathetic property this is. Do yourself a favor and don’t make the mistake I did. Trust me- plain and simple. I wish I wouldn’t have wasted my money and my precious time . This place needs an overhaul. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. The… Read more

We switched rooms, because as the other guests mentioned, some of the facilities are not super up to date, but in the end chose this smaller room with a giant balcony overlooking the pools and ocean. I spent hours out on that deck at night and would definitely stay here again. The pools are also amazing and were warmer than bathtubs. This hotel was one of the first hotels on the island and was part of Flagler's effort to bring tourism to Key West over 100 years ago. The lobby and pools are spectacular and it shares facilities with the sister Hilton property the Reach resort which is two blocks west. We stayed the the original building which was lovely and perfect. The lobby is decorated with very old Key West native mohagony and the property sits on a giant cistern which is used to supply water for cleaning. Because of COVID, there is no room service and no room cleaning although they will bring new towels and soap to the room. Also the restaurant is just opening up now. The lobby is being constantly cleaned, everyone has masks all the time, so I think it's about as clean as can be. Read less

We booked a week at the hotel to relax and enjoy the Florida sun. As far as this goes the hotel delivered...My intent of this review is not to bash the hotel but to inform potential guests what to expect or to help people make an informed decision on whether to stay here or not. First and foremost we called the hotel approximately a week before our stay was to being(July 6th). Our concern(due to the covid plandemic) was the hotel going to be open and fully operational? We were told that it was business as usual...private beach, bar was open etc. We should have been more specific in our questions as it was not business as usual. If you are staying here and staying in a room other than than the lowest rates you are spending around $500+- a night, plus what ever else you may spend in the bar, breakfast lunch, dinner etc...for us we average about $850 a day spent at the hotel. I'm not sure how we spent this much as there was no room service which we typically do for breakfast and late night snacks... You can wear your mask to to the restaurants in the hotel and take take it off as soon as you sit down. This seems a little more risky than room service, could they not just leave it at the door? As many people have stated in recent reviews the overall service and state of the hotel does not coincide with the price point. This hotel is in a major need of a renovation and an interior designer. Unfortunately some of the renovations and additions of buildings over the years has really detracted from the beauty of the original building. The lack of furniture inside and outside of the lobby is really unfortunate as it could be a really nice area to hang out. On a happier note the food for the most part was actually good. The peel and eat shrimp, Caesar salad and smoked fish dip toast were definitely standouts. Service as a whole was spotty. Some days at the pool the server was "on it"other days or times you waited forever. Once again at this price point you expect a certain level of service. Roosters were kind of annoying as they make noise all day long. Fortunately after about 4-5 cocktails the cock a doodle doo doesn't sound so loud. Great location in Key West away from the hustle and bustle of Duval but close enough to walk (if your'e a walker or short Uber ride) The original part of the hotel and the grounds are very beautiful, if you don't look to hard. Ultimately, I'm not sure what your options are in Key West for a higher end resort/room but this is definitely not it. Not a bad option for $200-$250 a night but not a penny more. Read less

The hotel itself needs a little work and upkeep. The first room we had didnt have a blow dryer and the Phone didn't work. Then the next room, the full size mirror was at a weird spot next to the bed. 2 lights in the bathroom were not working but they fixed it right away. The center light still wasn't working correctly. service was pretty good, but got the feel it was less staffed particularly at the pool and beach area. Out of the 5 days at the beach, we fixed up our own loungers with towels 3 out of the 5 days. We totally understand with the Pandemic, but we just didn't know each day if we had to get our own towels or what. Nonetheless, we had a wonderful time playing volleyball, ping pong, and just relaxing by the beach and pool. We would definitely come back! Read less

Went down to Key West to celebrate our 20yr wedding anniversary. A pretty big milestone, so we splurged on a more expensive room. It was over $500 a night so our expectations were not low. I guess expecting the tub to drain & the toilet to flush was asking too much. Getting clean coffee cups for the second morning seemed an inconvenience. The room in general is very odd and dated. The only thing nice about it was the balcony, but it smelled from years of heavy cigarette smoke. The resort itself should have been great. Maybe it used to be? As it is now, it’s uncared for. There are/were two piers but both are closed from hurricane damage two years ago. There are empty frames of double lounge chairs with no cushions on them. The few that did have a cushion, were ripped up and stained. It seemed gross to even think about sitting on one. Even the exterior is falling apart on some of the balconies. Now for the thing that bothers me the most, zero acknowledgement whatsoever about this being a “special” occasion for my husband & I. No turn down service, no box of chocolates, no congratulations note. Nothing! Friends of mine just spent their anniversary at the Breakers in West Palm. They were upgraded, congratulated, a note and box of chocolates left for them on the bed. BTW, they paid just a little less than we did for our disappointing experience. What I can say on a positive note is that the pool staff were really nice and seemed happy to help with towels and cocktails. Read less
