Emirates Palace

Abu Dhabi, Middle East

The hotel

Every bit as palatial as the name suggests, Emirates Palace is fit for royalty. Its private beach, marina and bay give an air of intimate seclusion, while the location, on the Corniche in the heart of Abu Dhabi, says otherwise. Under 114 ornate domes, each 18 metres high, this regal retreat hosts elegant guest rooms, a truly indulgent spa (we’re talking gold and caviar body and beauty treatments), and 14 restaurants, cafés, lounges and bars catering to your every whim. Even its gardens are majestic, with 85 hectares promising tranquil strolls, yoga and two swimming pools: one for relaxation and the other for fun. The crown of Emirates Palace is its dining, from the Emirati dishes and décor at Mezlai to the award-winning Mezzaluna Italian restaurant. All after starting your evening in style at the caviar and champagne bar.

Following 5months of no traveling, no pool or beach days; the work and home routine really had me yearning and looking forward to our short staycation over Eid at the Emirate Palace. Originally, we booked for 1 night but because our friends canceled due to unforeseen circumstances we took their night and extended our stay to 2 nights. If my review were simply based on the 1 night it would have been a better review but things really went downhill on the second day. We booked the Eid package, with room upgrade, early check in at 10am, late checkout at 4pm and 15% discount for F&B (which apparently does not apply to almost anything). Our early check in was very smooth; quick and easy, enabling us to enjoy the entire day poolside. We really enjoyed the east pool, the swim up bar, and all around the service there was fantastic!! That night we splurged and truly enjoyed our dinner at Hakkasan, which exceeded all our expectations. Breakfast; well the options were endless, enough to satisfy the pickiest of eaters. Done buffet style with all dished covered and someone always there to serve you what you opted for. Eggs orders were done at the table, along with teas, coffee, and juices. All would have been great if we simply stuck to the one night and checked out that day. However, after lounging all day poolside we arrived to our room around 1700 looking forward to rehydrate, yet only ½ bottle of water was remaining from the previous day; absolutely no water was left. The bed was made but the room was not cleaned, wine and drinking glasses were not picked up and fresh ones were not restocked. I rang and asked for water to be replenished, and I heard a tone of surprise but made nothing of it. Once the water arrived, we shortly after decided to order dinner into the room from Martabaan, though the gentleman on the phone ask if we were actually staying in the room. At the same time someone from reception rang us asking “would you like to extend your stay” she inquired to my partner. It was only at this point that I understood that they never changed our reservations and had us down at reception for 1 night only, even though upon check in we paid the 2 nights (and deposit) and we were confirmed for 2 nights. A lot of time was spent on the phone with reception and even with the manager sorting out the confusion. This massive disconnect and miscommunication, was probably the cause of the disorder in the room, the sound of surprise when we rang to ask to restock the water and the confusion when we called to order food into our room. Luckily the food was delivered very quickly, however with no cutlery, so once we called the butler and requested cutlery it took about 40min to reach the room at which point the food had become cold. I guess atleast this was better than the 1 hours and almost 3 call back reminders we had to do reminding them of our ordered beer. Unfortunately, there is a massive disconnect in the hotel which can massively ruins someone vacation. This is even evident on check out when we asked about the 15% discount which we knew was not applicable at Hakkasan (mentioned on check in); but then were also told on check out that it’s not applicable on alcohol either which is fine but please mention upon check in. Finally, when asked if we would like a paper or e-mail copy of the receipt, in thought of saving paper and going green I requested an e-mail copy. But clearly with the massive disconnect even requesting an e-mail receipt seems to have been lost in translation….Well I’m still waiting three days later. Massive disconnect, or even possibly completely disengaged staff. Such a shame considering the amazing property and facilities itself. A well awaited staycation completely ruined due to unnecessary stress, confusion and sorting out actual booking on day two. If you’re really looking for a great staycation, for some rest and relaxation this is definitely not the place for you. Read less

This was one of the best weekend trips for my family and I. Vittali Levchuk assisted us with our booking and was very helpful. The staff was extremely helpful, and the hotel was extremely clean. Highly recommended!

A decent hotel for family staycations. But I can’t say it’s the best one in AD. First of all there is a problem with a beach, it’s super regular, my biggest disappointment about this place. But in general, service and rooms are pretty nice.
